El Recodo was paid $250,000 to play at Parties for Los Zetas

Borderland Beat

It has been revealed that the musical band "El Recodo" was paid $250,000 to play at parties for "Los Zetas"

The popular "grupero" musical Mexican band "Banda El Recodo" has performed at private parties for the leaders of the criminal group "Los Zetas" said Jesús Enrique Rejón Aguilar, alias "El Mamito" or "Z7", who at one time was third in command for the criminal group, Los Zetas.

Rejón Aguilar was the star witness for the prosecution of the U.S. government in the trial against Jose Trevino Morales, brother of Miguel Angel Trevino Morales, alias "Z40" and against businessman Francisco Colorado Cessa Veracruz who are being tried for laundering millions of dollars in the race horse industry. Borderland Beat (BB) reporters Chivis Martinez and Havana have been reporting on the trial exclusively for BB.

The prosecutor Douglas Gardner questioned "El Mamito" on money laundering operations of "Los Zetas" through the purchase of Quarter Horses.

At the end of that interrogation Rejón Aguilar was asked "what was the favorite band of Miguel Angel Trevino", to which the witness replied: "La Banda El Recodo".

"How much was paid to the band to play at parties for Z40," asked the prosecutor, "$250,000 for a few hours," responded the capo, who was captured by Mexican authorities after the killing of US ICE agent Jaime Zapata on February 2011 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.

The band based out of Sinaloa state "El Recodo" is among many other popular musicians that have performed for powerful bosses of organized crime in Mexico.

Among other bands include Ramon Ayala, a "norteno" style musician who was detained in December 2009 while performing at a private party of Arturo Beltran Leyva and Edgar Valdez Villarreal, alias "La Barbie" in the state of Morelos.

Artists such as Jenni Rivera, Gloria Trevi, Tatiana, Los Tucanes de Tijuana, Pesado and Vicente Fernandez, among others, have performed for major drug traffickers with fees ranging from $15,000 per night and up to $250,000 for a few hours.

    1. I wouldn't be surprised if the cartels hit up these bands and say "you play at our parties or else...you have family that lives in this city (_____) and your children go to this school (____) and so on". Get the point???

    2. Its crazy how all the mexican gangs in southern california are south siders (x13) yet they all kill each other when not in prison. Makes little sense, they could be as large as they are on the inside if they had any brains.

  17. Thats why valentin elizalde is dead and other corrido cantantes are to for singing to los contras

  18. The artists you mentioned at the end are single performers, whereas there are 18 Banda Recodo guys, which is about $14 000 each, so I guess they're about normal :) It's like hiring 18 Jenni Riveras!

I looked up and listened to Banda Recodo after reading this article. I used to think banda sounded like a bunch of tone deaf giant mosquitos, but these guys are really good musicians! I guess most banda I've heard was drunk guys doing karaoke haha :D

  19. I don't think the Mexican drug cartels are so stupid to kill these musicians and other artist who perform at their parties unless these musicians start meddling into the business of the drug cartels.

  20. how long before we here of another music band found dead, the cdg and other cartels will probably find them and kill them all. This trial has just killed innocent people as the names of the band and anyone testifying are out for all to see. And as for mamito his family will be killed as he has grassed up to save his own skin. Looks like the pretty boy cant handle his own crimes so grasses everyone up so he can be released earlier. also if america were really about stopping drugs they would have troops stationed down by the border. America needs the drug industry to sell their guns and mexico needs to be trafficking drugs as this is what holds up their economy, without out drugs both countries would be alot poorer

  21. "Dude these guys are gonna get killed for fun now lol hope that 250,000 was worth getting decapitated"

That was my first thought too. The people of Mexico are screwed either way. If they go along they are screwed and if they refuse to go along they are screwed. I'm sure that's the situation the band is/was in.

  24. I am surprised the Zetas even paid them! Besides, they can play for money or be executed!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Nobody(at least in El Recodo) is getting their heads cut, these guys gained national notoriety when Ramon Arellano was around and used to hire them for his parties, this guys play at parties from ALL CARTELS, just like Los Tucanes de Tijuana and many more bands, the reason Valentin Elizalde was killed(according to El Hummer) is because he sung 3 times the same corrido after zetas told him to stop, he sung 3 times a corrido where El Mayo calls Z´s barking dogs.

    3. @May 8, 6:23AM...I reckon the Zetas paid the band much more money than what you earn annually or maybe your lifetime.

  28. They got a flavor of Brazilian,i dont dig on the corrido stuff, but these are different. As for the band,i wonder what they make of their name out there?
    Sinaloan based playing for Z?
"trafficking drugs as this is what holds up their economy, without drugs both countries would be alot poorer"Oh yeah,a lot of idiots choose not to see this"but its illegal"i swear,if the government said tomorrow, fuckin milk is illegal, people would gradually get used to it and go along with it?

  29. You are damned if you do and damned if you dont. Like the other posts mentioned, sometimes it's not if you want to perform. You are obligated, take the $250K or something bad can happen. I am sure they aren't proud of themselves that this came to light, but money is money.

    ReplyDelete
  30. yeah, but why kill the singers?? they are just entertainers and story tellers of the life and times of the drug dealers. same as hip hop. if you don't like a singer, you don't kill him, switch the radio station..

  31. Alejandra Guzmán, a world renown pop/rock singer, sang for "El Lazca" and "Tony Tormenta" in Río Bravo, Tamps., right across the border from the Río Grande Valley. El Recodo is Grades by the Lizarraga bros., Ponch and Joel, are also world renown. They've performed for U.S. presidents.

  32. La Banda El Recodo is PURO Sinaloense, so anyone who wants to talk sh!t just show how little you understand about Mexico. Ultimo respeto por Don Julio Preciado y Don Cruz Lizarraga. How is anyone going to talk without respect for these guys? They have 75 years in the music business... 1938! Look at Los Ayala for that matter Don Pedro goes way back too and Don Ramon still carries on their family legacy. Tejanos had Don Patricio Jimenez and his son Don Santiago Sr, and still have grandson's Don Santiago Jr y Don Flaco who people know from the Texas Tornados con Freddy Fender. These guys aren't narcos. They're bigger! They are the heart and soul of Mexico. They aren't in the drug business, they have far more musical talent in their little finger than these rap and punk music. When narco want to have a good time they want what ANY red blooded Mexicano wants: Patron y Cazadores, Corridos y Bandas, Carne Asada y El Siete Mares, Caderonas Lindas y A Veces... Perico. Can you blame them for having good taste? It's like faulting Frank Sinatra because his fans INCLUDED wiseguys like Santo Traficante Jr and Carlo Gambino.

  42. Hate Banda..back in early 90s this wasn't on Texas radio stations including Laredo,Tx. It is all sponsored by drug dealers there are better musicians that don't play Banda crap that are way more talented. Radio stations and Univision are at fault for accepting blood money from cartels to popularize this kind of crap...Donald Trump remove Banda from U.S. radio stations!!!
