Commando frees 13 Inmates in Reynosa

This is the second organized escape in less than two weeks in Tamaulipas. The government of this state had reported the attack and the deaths of three prisoners, but did not mention the escape.

Reynosa, Tamaulipas - Armed men stormed a prison in the northern border city of Reynosa, freeing 13 inmates, the attorney general’s office said Sunday.

This is the second organized escape in less than two weeks in Tamaulipas. The government of this state had reported the attack on Friday and the death of three prisoners, but did not mention the escape of the prisoners.

An official of the Attorney General of the Republic (PGR), who declined to be named, said 31 prison guards were being questioned in Reynosa, which borders the cities of Hidalgo and Pharr, Texas.

So far it has not been possible to contact officials in the governor's office, the Attorney General or the Public Security Ministry officials for comment on the case.

Last week, 40 alleged members of the Gulf Cartel escaped from the prison in Matamoros.
