CJNG Battle Against the Military, Ends with 16 Hitmen Arrested in Jerez, Zacatecas

"HEARST" for Borderland Beat

Sixteen alleged members of Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) were arrested by Army and National Guard soldiers after a battle in the municipality of Jerez, Zacatecas.

The Battle

On November 4, 2022, the sound of gunshots rang out in multiple neighborhoods in the town of Jerez, in the municipality of the same name.

Articles published before the official government statement, from newspapers such as El Sol de Zacatecas, describe how the gunshots were heard and reported to the emergency phone line at approximately 8:00 am in the neighborhoods of Los Sauces, Modelo, San Isidro and Bosques. Videos of the gunfire were uploaded by locals to social media.

Armored National Guard vehicles were then spotted moving towards the small neighborhood of El Durazno, in Jerez.

An article by El Sol de Zacatecas goes on to say “security sources told us that National Guard special forces personnel located a criminal group’s center of operations and managed to ‘encircle’ them in the community of El Durazno. When reinforcements arrived to arrest them, a confrontation broke out which lasted at least half an hour.”

The next day, the Governor of the state and the Army (SEDENA) sent out a press release, which translates as follows:

“On November 4 of this year, in the municipality of Jerez, Zacatecas, personnel from the National Guard and the Mexican Army were attacked with firearms by alleged members of organized crime. After repelling said aggression, 16 individuals were arrested and their weapons, magazines, cartridges, tactical equipment and a building were seized.

As a result of intelligence work [...], National Guard and Mexican Army personnel organized a joint task force to conduct ground reconnaissance in the town of El Durazno, municipality of Jerez, Zac.

During this ground reconnaissance, information was obtained through a citizen's report that alleged armed individuals were currently located inside a building, so the joint task force moved to investigate the building.

Once the property was located, Army soldiers established peripheral security and National Guard soldiers  proceeded to request a technical investigation order [search warrant], at which point they were attacked with gunshots.

Because of this attack, the aforementioned personnel began a security operation which resulted in the National Guard detaining 16 individuals, 4 of whom were injured.

In addition, the following was seized:

17 long barrel firearms

1,052 bullets

54 magazines

12 tactical vests

1 property

It is worth mentioning that the 4 individuals who were injured were given first aid and were evacuated, as detainees, to the General Hospital Jerez, Zacatecas for medical attention.”

The following two photos were released, showing the seized equipment and the detainees.

NewssMex wrote that “unofficially, it is being rumored that the arrested aggressors are members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel , although this information has not yet been confirmed.”

    10. CT, where did you get elite from? If you’re talking about the sicarios that were arrested, no one ever claimed they were elite or delta or anything of the sort. As a matter a fact the article even states that it hadn’t been confirmed that they were CJNG. It seemed like that week long run on meth and no sleep have you hallucinating. You just came out of nowhere with that while you’re seeing elite and delta sicarios. Take a nap, it’ll do you some good

    20. PGR, Procuraduria General de la Republica (or del Estado PGE, so called since forever) got a name change due to systematic country wide corruption, they are now "FISCALIAS", like Culombia's where they got the model for their beloved War On Drugs, with cuntributions from the devil himself, alvaro uribe velez and his lover el general Oskar Naranjas, former director of culombia's Policia Nacional Academy rent a cadet service.
Genarco garcia luna and FECAL got diplomas, medals and letters from Culombia and spain for his war ON drugs that covered his and his compas' widespread corruption and drug trafficking since FOX put garcia in charge of the new more corrupt AFI after releasing El Chapo in a laundry cart from Puente Grande, looks like Chapo talking with DEA was "productive", but there are new bosses everywhere at the top and winds changed direction.

    1. Guardia Nacional was created by AMLOs administration on March 26th 2019. On August 8, 2022 AMLO announced that the GN would be absorbed by the National Defense Secretary (SEDENA). In February of 2021 AMLO inaugurated a military complex in Jerez Zacatecas. on November 24, 2021 AMLO introduced a plan to support the fight against organized crime in the state of Zacatecas.

    2. Every administration creates a "new" law enforcement force made up of members of preexisting forces. Remember the secret service of Mexico 40 years ago, the federal caminos 30 years ago and the AIC 20 years ago and most recently the PGR.
The Guardia National is old Mexicam law enforcement rebranded. There have been honest and competent members of all of these forces and Mexican citizens have always had confidence in the honest members and have been disappointed with the corrupt ones.
Law enforcement in the U.S. depends on tips from it's citizens. Many citizens in Mexico have confidence in Mexican authorities and have provided tips that have led to the seizure of major drug labs and major arrests, and like here, a group of hoodlums.
Mexican law enforcement has been improving for decades. No single administration can take credit for the changes in Mexican law enforcement in Mexico. The change is coming from the honesty of individual members of law enforcement. It's only a matter of time until Mexican law enforcement will be as capable as U.S. law enforcement.

    3. They barely started vetting them a few years ago. When Guardia Nacional was made, only about half of the former polixe force was admitted into it. The rest didn’t pass the vetting process. And even still there is alot of corruption in the ranks. Just look at some of the guacamaya leaks. Although those weren’t needed because people already knew. It seems like they’re starting to fulfill their duties a bit more since SEDENA started running their show, but only time will tell about that. But to claim that these law enforcement entities have been getting better since the 80s is a bit over reaching. 40 years is more then enough time tohave made them into an honest and dedicated force 3 times over, atleast 3 times. And being corrupt and dishonest is still a big problem today. Hopefully they do become an honest and dedicated force which fulfill their duties which is to protect and serve the average citezen. We’ll see what the future holds

    5. CDS has had Jerez on locked for a few months since before Pancho Barraza concert in August. Even Pancho Barraza said puro Sinaloa several times in his concert that had at least 5000 people. CJNG was out of Jerez and trying to fight for Monte Escobedo, Tepetongo and Huejucar.

    6. A Newbie hahahahaa que pendejo eres! I was there in August for 30 days, I know people from both sides. Jerez and it's ranches are up at dawn ready to work, agreement was to fight at night. Carta closes at 9pm to avoid chaos, other bars like Tizoc and Antigua close at 11pm. CDS killed those 2 kids in September near the bank because they were Halcones for CJNG. They were washing windshields in front of BBVA bank por la San Luis. They got chase down the street and killed.

    10. 4:53 yup this raid and arrests seems off. No vests with CJNG and even the late press release from the government doesn't mention these supposed NG sicarios. What happened with that guy Fantasma that was CDG? I think he went independent or turned CJNG. He was the one that ran M. Escobedo wasn’t he? So now it’s CDS??? What happened with Fantasma? Any input would be highly appreciated
