In a joint operation with the National Guard (GN) and the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) of Morelos, army personnel arrested seven alleged members of the Cartel Del Noreste, and seized eight high caliber weapons, more than 13,000 useful cartridges, tactical vests and vehicles.
The capture was achieved by raiding two safe houses, located in the municipalities of Xochitepec and Emiliano Zapata, said the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), in a statement.
The agency also said that the people arrested "intended to establish themselves in the state of Morelos to start illicit activities, so the actions carried out were an important blow to this alleged criminal organization".
The operation involved elements of the 24th Military Zone, who acted in support of civilian authorities participating in the State Roundtable for the Construction of Peace in the state of Morelos.
Among the items seized from the detainees were a multifunctional PA-15 rifle, Palmetto State Armory West Columbia, caliber. 5.56 mmx45; a long gun, without registration, whose caliber, type and characteristics are yet to be determined, and a Taurus pistol, .45 caliber.
In addition, two AK-47 rifles, known as "Cuernos de Chivo"; two AR-15 assault rifles; another assault rifle, .223x39mm caliber, Spikes Tactical brand.
