Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas: The United States Delivers 'JC', Alleged Gulf Cartel Kingpin

"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat

Juan Carlos de la Cruz Reyna, alias "JC", was transferred to the FGR offices in Nuevo Laredo. In Mexico he is accused of drug trafficking and money laundering for organized crime.

The United States government handed over Juan Carlos de la Cruz Reyna, alias "JC", who is the alleged leader of the Gulf Cartel (CDG), to the Attorney General's Office (FGR).

Elements of the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) received and apprehended the subject on the Nuevo Laredo bridge on Tuesday morning, with the help of members of the Mexican Navy Secretariat.

De la Cruz Reyna, alias "JC", was a state policeman from Tamaulipas. According to reports from the government of Mexico, in 1998 he entered the Gulf Cartel, where in a few years he became one of the main operators in Tampico and Matamoros.

The subject was arrested on August 29, 2007, while he was working with 8 men in the restaurant "El Rincón Argentino", in the Polanco neighborhood in Mexico City. A year later he was extradited to the United States, where he was accused of threatening two officers of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) with a rifle in 1999 in Matamoros.

In March 2012, "JC" left prison in the United States after serving a 30-month sentence, but was re-apprehended for the crime of bribery to an immigration agent.

In that year, the kingpin sought to agree to return to Mexico by a Tamaulipas bridge that was controlled by the Gulf Cartel, this in order not to being handed over into the hands of his enemies.

U.S. government documents report that Juan Carlos de la Cruz paid 542,090 in cash and promised to deliver properties worth 460,000 dollars to an immigration agent. When he pleaded guilty, he received a second sentence of 11 years.

The importance of "JC" in the Gulf Cartel operation was exposed after his capture. In the following months, 11 tons of cocaine were seized in Altamira and 25 federal police officers who collaborated with the man were arrested.

On his return to Mexico, Juan Carlos de la Cruz was transferred to the FGR offices in Nuevo Laredo. In Mexico he is accused of drug trafficking and money laundering for organized crime.

  2. I have a question. So a cartel has a leader per say. And he or she is ok with letting the groups under them fight each other for more control if they want ( example the escorpiones fighting the metros ) But they still pay the leader above them?. Or does the fighting happen just because there isn't a set person that is in complete control? Sometimes it just seems that there is only an ability to use the name of the DTO and that's it. But there is no cohesion within the organizations. Sometimes I wonder if the people truly at the head of the organization prefer the groups within fighting each other so that one group does not have more power. It seems to me that even though the blame is put on the DEA, CIA, ETC. Or the Mexican officials. That the cartels themselves also don't have cohesion. Which is shit overall because you have people always cheering for one cartel or the other. But they don't try and maintain better structure .. seems that what only matters are the individuals that are the equivalent of pop stars.
I feel like before it wasn't completely like that. But that has become the moto or just became the norm over time.

    Respect and peace to everyone.
