Court Rejects Motion Issued by Rafael Caro Quintero; Judge He Wanted Out Will Preside in Extradition Hearing

"MX" for Borderland Beat

A Mexican federal court rejected a motion issued by Rafael Caro Quintero, who intended to prevent judge Francisco Javier Sarabia Ascencio from presiding in his extradition hearings.

Sarabia Ascencio has presided over Caro Quintero's extradition case over the years and once granted him a petition that slowed his US extradition request. A Mexican media outlet stated that Sarabia Ascensio reportedly received payments from Caro Quintero in exchange for favorable court rulings.

But a few months ago Caro Quintero told the court that he no longer wanted Sarabia Ascencio in his hearings, which suggested a possible fall out with the judge in question.

This is not the first time that Caro Quintero has issued motions to prevent certain judges from presiding in his cases. In 2015, he issued a motion to prevent judges Arturo Zaldivar Lelo de Larrea and Luis Maria Aguilar Morales from having a decision on whether Caro Quintero's extradition was allowed under the US and Mexico Extradition Treaty.

Caro Quintero, the former leader of the Guadalajara Cartel, is wanted for the 1985 murder of US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent Enrique Camarena Salazar.

In 2013, he was freed from a Mexican state jail on a legal technicality, but an arrest warrant was issued by federal authorities a few months after his release. He is currently a fugitive and is believed to be in hiding in Mexico.

If Caro Quintero is ever arrested in Mexico, officials say he will likely be extradited to the US. In the US, he is wanted for kidnapping and murder of a US federal officer, as well as drug trafficking, money laundering and for leading a continuous criminal enterprise.

The US government is offering a US$20 million bounty for his capture. This is the highest reward the U.S. offers for a Mexican criminal.

  1. RCQ is smart. He’s getting his chess pieces ready should he be arrested. Not a lot of narcos do this. But RQC knows what it means to be in prison for so long and I guess that’s made him wiser. Let’s see what happens.

    1. RCQ has prob planned for multiple scenarios... if they have trouble in Sonora let’s see what alliance is made... he’s prob preparing money for bribes & any other corrupt services he may need to either fight a war or from getting extradited... it will be interesting to see how it plays out...

  2. After payoffs, weapon buys, and any other overhead :

    Boss = 100k yr.
    Capo = 50k yr
    Soldiers, workers and halcones = 20k to 30k yr.

    Business is bussiness, with some murder on the side.

  3. The likelihood of him coming to the States and testifying in open court is about the same as it was for Osama Bin Laden, which is to say, zero.

    2. Even if he was brought to the USA he wouldn't testify in open court, they would do him hard and dirty like Chapo.

      Osama was a different deal, he was directly responsible for thousands of deaths and openly challenged the USA. He signed his own death warrant.

    1. The Ndrangheta makes more money middling coke shipments and moving in silence and , less violence. No stupid fucking songs about their exploits and far more business acumen and blood ties so less ratfinks to squeal on bosses. They supply Canada which means they supply The entire eastern seaboard of the US through the ports in Montreal. Also Europe, through Antwerp and Rotterdam or via west Africa through Cape Verde which is a narco state along with Senegal
      . They provide more than 80% of coke in Europe via alliance with Balkan gangs who distribute the drug across Britain, Germany and Eastern Europe also Russia. They deal directly with source groups like FARC and Mexicans Gangs who cultivate in Ecuador Colombia and Venezuela. Sicilians (Rizzutos) still hold some sway in Montreal with an alliance with Haitian gangs, Hells and the Irish west end gang who have monopolized the port and tax gangs to get their shipments through. Nrangheta operate out of Toronto (Commissos and Figliomeni)who report directly to the Siderno group in Italy. Gambling and coca Bring them billions, and they don’t have to pay a fucking mercenary army to fight over territory.
