Chino Antrax: What happened, the social media buzz and the missing mole

Chivis Martinez Borderland Beat

There is much speculation and theories as to what happened leading up to the death of José Rodrigo Aréchiga Gamboa, alias "El Chino Ántrax, his sister, Jimena Aréchiga Gamboa and her husband named Juan Garcia.

The story broke overnight Friday to Saturday the headline being “The Sister of Chino Antrax kidnapped and killed”.  The early information reported that along with her were two unidentified men.

On Borderland Beat commenters immediately began saying “RIP Chino”.  However Mexican mainstream media was crickets, much more so than typically.

But social media was on fire.

Photos were released revealing 3 bodies inside a BMW X5 SUV registered in Jimena’s name.  Only one of the bodies was “encobijado” wrapped in black plastic and a thick printed blanket and secured by cinnamon tape at the feet, mid body and neck.

The other bodies were fully clothed.

Jimena was confirmed as being one of the bodies but the other two were only identified as being male.

Videos were uploaded to social media platforms depicting a home in Culiacán with a considerable quantity of bullet impacts in the aftermath of a fierce shooting.  The home was reported belonging to Jimena, other reports said it was rented for a party by Jimena.

Early evening, I reached out to sources in the U.S. for a confirmation of Chino’s death.  Around 5:30 I was given the “It’s him”.  Also, that they confirmed ID via photographic comparisons, and they were waiting for an additional ID process before announcing the death.  This is the U.S. identifying the corpse.  Mexico was doing its own identification process.

I chose sources in the U.S. for obvious reasons.  I will just say, remember Chayo?  Nazario Moreno González? Died three times?

My source asked that I wait before posting the confirmation or until there was a second confirmation.  The second confirmation came so I posted the death on forum, then twitter and main board.

What and why?

We may never know exactly but corridos, journalists and narcos will all put their spin on the story but unless the U.S. wants to weigh in with what they know transpired in the U.S. well…we may have to wonder forever.

Chino Antrax died exactly one month before his 40th birthday. He was the leader and the founder of Los Ántrax, an armed wing created to protect and work under the direction of Ismael Mayo Zambada.

By all accounts Mayo, the premier leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, was very close to Chino.  A friendship that began in Culiacán when Chino was a child and became close friends with other kids in the neighborhood, the children of El Mayo.  It is thought that that close relationship is what drove Chino to joining CDS.
Morena party Sinaloa congressman Ocadio Garcia Espinosa is reportedly the brother of
Juan Garcia,  husband of Chino's sister and ID'd as one of the three bodies in the SUV

And he had choices.  His family are successful people in their own right.  All except Chino chose to acquire a university degree, likewise his parents both have Master Degrees.  The family is considered affluent.

The majority of narcos do not have many choices.  Especially those bottom layer of foot soldiers one sees with dismembered, bloody or broken bodies in the aftermath of a confrontation.  Many are “Nini’s”, no schooling, no hope of employment.  Ninis are 18 to  24 years of age who live in a big city and didn't finish school.

Cartels know the vulnerability of these young people and capitalize on it. For ninis, joining a cartel gives a sense of belonging in a world that they perceive is hopeless and unaccepting.  This is not an excuse for criminality, but it goes to a reason why young people choose the life.

Chino was not a nini.  He had choices in life.

Chino was arrested on December 30, 2013 at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.  The U.S. had a warrant for his arrest through Interpol.

The United States identified Chino through DNA, necessary because he not only was travelling via a fake name and documents, but had  undergone plastic surgery to change his appearance, and altered his finger prints. That would explain the missing mole.

Yuriana Castillo Torres

While Chino was incarcerated in Amsterdam Yuriana Castillo Torres, the mother of his child was abducted as she pulled into a parking area at the gym where she worked out.

As she was exiting the vehicle another vehicle arrived  and witnesses say they tried to get her to go with them, she put up a fight causing them to become physical, she was eventually dragged to the waiting vehicle, losing her shoe in the process.

The next day they found her body in a vacant lot wrapped in a white sheet, she had signs of torture, and was bound by cords on her feet and hands she died from a broken, she was 23.

At her memorial a large floral arrangement arrive with a card signed with the name of Chino.

Six months later in July of 2014 he was extradited to San Diego California, to face charges of drug trafficking and related charges, he was facing a potential life sentences if convicted of his crimes.

In May 20 of 2015 he entered a change of plea and entered into an agreement.  He  was given 87 months and 5 years supervised release.  On March 3 of this year he was released and settled in San Diego.

Two months later his PO arrived at Chino’s residence and found him gone as well as all his belongings…except his cell phone.

A little over a week later is dead body was discovered in a BMW SUV along with that of his sister and allegedly his brother in law.

Mexico still identifying the corpse
Federal government officials reported that the Sinaloa State Attorney General's Office requested the support of the FGR, so that specialized experts can;  "identify if one of the three people found dead on a Culiacán highway is José Rodrigo Aréchiga.”

Rumors abound
FROM DEA: “In his plea agreement, Arechiga-Gamboa admitted that the Sinaloa Cartel uses violence and threats to intimidate rival cartels, and that he himself was “a direct participant in, and communicated to other members of the Sinaloa Cartel, orders to commit acts of violence or threats of violence.”  The Sinaloa Cartel operates across multiple continents and countries, importing large quantities of narcotics into Mexico from Asia and Central and South American countries including Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Peru, Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras and Guatemala.”
All of Chino’s sentencing documents have always been sealed.  I checked the government website today and they remain sealed.

Only conjecture can be used at this point.  However, in order for a defendant to go from a potential life sentence, to the sweet deal he ultimately was given.

He never testified in court.  Therefore, we remain wondering just what was given up from him in exchange.

One can imagine Chapitos, sons of El Chapo, who allegedly hated Chino and even Mayo were asking themselves the same thing.

Some narco blogs were uploading a video which was supposedly that of a welcome home party given in Chino’s honor by CDS sicarios.

A big question is why he would go back to Culiacan in the first place.  It makes sense that he would reach out to, either directly or by representative, to El Mayo.  It also makes sense he must have received assurances of protection.

And it is logical to think after the assurances he was set up and handed over for execution.

In this theory that would be by El Mayo, and Mayo must have been sure he had been betrayed. And what a monumental betrayal that would be.

On Social media there is wild speculation that Chino was implanted with a GPS chip and sent to Mexico to work under cover.  In exchange for his deal.

I shook my head thinking that is absurd.

But the one thing that keeps popping in my head is, how could he be so arrogant to think he could return to Culiacán and he would be fine, no problem, just go on with life, open an IG, lose some weight become player 2.0?

That in of itself is mind-boggling.

    2. Just nitpicking, but Alfredo “Fello Antrax” Vizcarra Vega was the founding leader of Los Antrax, and Chino took over the group after Fello Antrax was killed in 2008 by the Beltran Leyvas. Fun fact: Fello Antrax was the son of Sinaloa Ministerial Police Deputy Director Martiniano Vizcarra Burgos, who also has Changuito Antrax as a yerno.

Its obvious it was Mayo who betrayed chino even if chapitos killed him mayo obviously gave them the green light to kill him, and no the chapitos wont be the downfall of sinaloa because ivan is just as smart and has been in the game since his father was still around and they are here to stay they will be around for a very long time trust me and they are growing powerful each day so stop being emotional and hating on them they are doing their thing

    9. So much speculation....Chino went back because he did not rat. He wanted to prove that. Obviously, his sister and her husband could have come to the USA and apply for legitimate asylum. They were never afraid to lose their lives, right.

I get it. Not everyone in Mexico wants to come here. They are doing fine where they are. But still, they went on with their lives under an almost too perfect umbrella of safety. As if Mayo himself said "you are safe". They would certainly need that blessing.

It also is with 100% certainty that Chino had Mayo's blessing to return home. Let's get one thing straight! Mayo is in charge. The Chapitos are a thorn in Mayo's side, however, it is more like being the grandpa of three rebellious boys as opposed to dealing with enemies.

I think his death speaks in volumes. Half thought he was a rat and the other half respected him and believed that he must not be a rat. Even with Mayo's blessing to come back, there is no way to guarantee that he could be protected at all times.

Love all ya'll.....keep the opinions coming!

  2. Chino was a dead man walking in Mexico without the political, economic and security clout of el Padrino Zambada. The question is what is gonna happen when the old man's son does the same thing jumps ship and ends up on his father's doorsteps at the secret mountain retreat. The old man needs to look himself in mirror.

    1. @Texcoco - Why? Because he was hoping that his life will return to where it was before being arrested in Amsterdam. He loved that life style. Probably one of his attys assured him that the old man (Mayo Zambada) is cool with him. Maybe he had some doubts too, but he probably didn't wanted to wake up being 80 and asking himself what if? And he took the bait. I'm sure that he would have not returned to Culiacan without a legit guarantee that he will be safe. I don't think that he was that retarded.

    5. I have read a few comments on some social media and blogs, and people are saying that Chino Antrax was welcome back in Sinaloa with a party. They also said he was confronted by Ivan Archivaldo. That Ivan accused him of working for the U.S government trying to pin point the location of the bosses and that he punched him in the face. That according to them, after that Ivan ask for his head. That after that they went to get him and a gun fight erupted and he was captured and killed.

Obviously those are just rumors on social media.

CAF people might rant at this but RAF got knock down by a punch by some dude at a taco stand according to an article in Zeta. In late 97 or early 98 RAF was rolling in his new Navigator in El DF when he got car jacked and all his alhajas were also taken, some were returned but the Navigator wasn't.

Chino was on probation in San Diego and then disappeared. But was found dead in Culiacan? How did he get passed the border into MX, given that the U.S./Mexican borders are closed for non-essential travel due to COVID-19?

Nor was he deported. Something is off. Was he set up?

Makes no sense how he escaped under the DEA's nose (unless they too, were involved).

    Thanks in advance!

More like if he was an enemy from a deep rival organization. In his prime he ran Culiacan with a crew of trained hitmen carrying the most sophisticated firearms, had a steady stream of cash flow in the 6 figures or more to maintain the lavish lifestyle. He got sent to the afterlife with no money under his name and with no men on side. Insult to injury, His girlfriend was killed in a vicious way and his sister went along for the ride. The top brass of the cartel punched his ticket but in a brutal fashion. Disloyalty and disownment to the fullest. His anthrax comrades disowned and turned their back on him. Bunch of cowards in my opinion. Chino used to help out his subordinates in times of need and that's the thanks he got in the end. But what I cant wrap my head around is that he had close links to the zambada sons. Relations and bonds from way back. All the commands he respected and carried out for M grande? Including taking out an AF brother in Cabos. From the looks of it , they disowned him as well and threw him to the wolves. He was no good anymore. Mejor por la sombrita y caminar por la esquinita haciendo su dinero uno solito. Mejor solo que mal acompañado es un dicho por hay.

    1. Chino was somewhat of a powerful figure in the cartel. This means that when captured and brought into the U.S. he should have received a long term sentence much like El Chapo but he only received a 7 year sentence.
Why? Because the U.S. government reduces prison sentences for people that rat on their own cartel.
More than likely Chino ratted many things about his cartel that may even have led to one of the captures of even the mighty Chapo.
Nobody but him and the DEA would know if this did happen but either way he was lopked at as compromised and deserving of death.
That is why he died like a dog like most other fucking useless narcos in any cartel

    2. Ivan is a very jealous guy. He wants to be the top dog, and Chino was one of the few that could match him in terms of popularity/media attention. Ivan supposedly wanted to kill Chino various times but it was stopped by higher ups because he was a good earner + led a skilled team. It’s also rumored he once slapped Chino at a party, Chino was a very skilled street fighter and probably could’ve whooped Ivan, but he knew he would be a dead man if that happened. 7 years go by, things have changed. His place has been filled by some other maniac, his team is mostly dead or in prison and his trafficking/customer connects are most likely gone as well. Ivan is also now the boss, so it’s only natural he gets rid of someone he’s always disliked now that he has the authority to.

They used to be cool but then Chino started posting on his Instagram page the pictures that we all seen about his luxurious lifestyle plus females have something to do it with also most likely. But back then Chapo wouldn’t of let Ivan go after him but now since No Chapo around and Chino had absolutely nobody cause if you think about it mostly all the Ántrax are dead Chino had no pull anymore.

    9. Chino was NOT a nobody. Anyone who thinks that doesn’t know what they’re talking about. He had his own trafficking cells and worked with big players from Sinaloa and Durango to get shipments up north. Look at what he had going with PEMEX, he knew a lot about Garcia Luna and other top politicians so maybe the order to kill him came from them. And Ivan may have everything a man could ask for, he still envied many other people in his own cartel. For one Chino was plaza boss of Culiacan many years and that was a position Ivan wanted he felt Chino didn’t deserve since he didn’t come from any of the big name family’s and was somewhat of an outsider.

  22. My opinion, frankly, is that he went back to get revenge for the killing of the mother of his child. He had to have been smart enough to know that whoever killed her would come for him, too.

It is said that he was in the clown suit and killed Francisco Rafael Arellano Felix. Remember that? That throws another wrench into the equation. Anyway, I think he knew it was coming.

Did Mayo kill his girl to shut him up in advance? Before Chino talked? It says Chino was caught December 30th, 2012. July 2013 is when his girl was taken and killed.

I cant help but wonder why news outlets in Mexico do not mention that that these girls were raped or some were. In the USA, they get right down to the details. Anal rape, sodomy, digital this and that, etc., etc., etc.

Maybe it is out of respect? IDK. I will say this....Chino wasn't no pu**y. He had no fear and that said a lot. Talk about machismo.....

    2. That doesn't make any sense. Chino does not have the power to get revenge on the people who killed the mother of his child. So he wouldn't come back to get revenge unless someone tricked him and made him think that he would be welcomed back into CDS. If true, naive thinking on Chino's part.

As far as the rape part. It's not necessary. I think enough people know what happens to women in Mexico, especially the pretty ones, when the word 'tortured' is used.

He did not begin as a smalltime pusher or hitman to grow up to become a leader either either due to his friendship with these people. He was given a chance to lead many shithead hitmen from the start which could have contributed to even more love for the lifestyle even though he did not need to be involved in it.
He was a fucking idiot that never thought he'd end up dead the way he did because of his afluence. Looks like they tortured his stupid ass then executed him and part of his family because of this shit.

  41. Anyone who believes the GPS thing doesn't understand the basic operation of GPS and the physics involved. For one, GPS for public use is strictly a one way signal from satellites in the sky to a receiver on the ground. In a very simplified explanation, GPS satellites in orbit broadcast a time signal over and over to the Earth below.

Since all of the broadcast signals travel at the same speed, you can measure the difference in time it takes for the signal from satellite A vs B vs C to triangluate your location.Again this is strictly a one-way communication, your GPS device does NOT talk to satellites. When cell phones are tracked, they are using the cell phone towers to either triangluate your location from the towers themselves, or they're pulling your GPS location from your phone.

The second reason why this idea is absurd is power. The power needed to send a signal to a satellite would require a huge battery (to say nothing about the antenna). Having the device "talk" to a radio/cell tower is plausible but you'd still need a significantly sized battery for even a single use. Radio waves travel far on even on low power (think FM) but still, we're talking about a watch battery and an antenna a few cm long. If such a device does exist, it's strictly for military/intelligence use and certainly not used by the DEA implanting it into a cartel hitman. Maybe the real life James Bond working undercover has a one time use radio transmitter to send an SOS signal but it's highly unlikely when we have satellites that can read the name of the book you're holding. GPS or any other electromagnetic tracking devices are certainly in fantasyland.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. 6:21 PM You have no idea how much technology has advanced then. You don't need the GPS tracker to be sending information constantly it could be a daily, weekly, monthly thing. The Feds don't need to know your exact location to find you it could be as simple as knowing the general area. Then get close and use a special tool that they have that gives you an exact location. Similar to Radio Telemetry just more advanced the US FED doesn't just sit on there ass they are always trying to stay ahead of the game.

    4. That was likely an RFID Implant. GPS implants don’t not appear to be commercially available. As noted, they require significant power. I don’t see the need to leave call phone behind if a (nonexistent) tracking device was implanted.

  64. The GPS theory sounds dumb in this case, and more if you think the GPS is implanted. An external GPS can sound a bit more realistic but in this case not at all. We are talking about a guy who left behind his phone! Why would he leave it? Most likely to avoid being tracked, so if he had a GPS he shouldnt be worried about his phone's location being tracked. Whatever deal he had with the government is sealed, we all know he collaborated but nobody knows specifically how, so if the government put a gps and sent him to Mayo like many say, the whole operation wouldve been a secret, there wouldnt have been any news about Chino escaping parole in the first place. And also that mission would've been a guaranteed failure. These government officials in the case have experience with cartels, they handle many cases make many agreements with them, its their job its what they do, and even us with no experience in that field know that Chino Antrax is a dead man stepping in Mexico, its obvious and they know it very well, so there is no reason why they would spend time and resources for something they know will fail, they know he would not be able to get near Mayo, that he would get killed right away before even getting a chance. And if Ivan would have been thinking chino was being tracked i dont think Ivan would wanna be there with him in a party like they say. So if they where actually together then Ivan was never thinking about a GPS
