Former Attorney for Los Zetas Assassinated

Yaqui for Borderland Beat from: SDP and Debate

Jesús Horacio García Vallejo was executed while driving in his BMW vehicle.

García Vallejo was a lawyer for the Trevino brothers,  leaders of "Los Zetas" and filed an amparo in favor of Miguel Ángel before the First Criminal Collegiate Court in Tamaulipas and another by Omar before the First Criminal Collegiate Court of the State of Mexico.

But the lawyer also represented alleged leaders of drug trafficking organizations, such as Miguel Treviño Morales, "Z 40", and his brother Óscar Omar, "Z 42", considered the top leaders of Los Zetas. .

60-year-old Jesús García Vallejo drove a black BMW van, P82ALS license plates, and according to the corporation he had just left his home to carry out Christmas shopping in a winery on Avenida Miguel Ángel de Quevedo.

Reports indicate that at around 11:30 am, García Vallejo left a home on Eje 10 Avenida Pedro Henríquez Ureña in the Los Reyes Coyoacán neighborhood, when two individuals on a motorcycle attacked him with bullets.

Because the lawyer lost control of his car when hit by the bullets, he collided with another driver of a Renault, who said the attackers escaped at full speed.

Some witnesses said they had heard six detonations, although the preliminary part reported that the lawyer had gunshot wounds with an impact on the chest and another with entry and exit in the back of the skull. The murderers fled through Avenida Aztecas.

"We were in the traffic jam and that's how we saw a motorcycle pull up along side the vehicle and they shot the driver." There were several bullets.

When the emergency corps arrived, García Vallejo was still alive, however, he died in the hospital because of the impacts.

Red Cross paramedics arrived who gave him first aid and took him to the parking lot of the Azteca Stadium at Gate 8, where he was picked up by the helicopter. From there, he was transferred to Balbuena General Hospital, where he was admitted to the emergency department, but died there quickly.

García Vallejo defended in the past decade the former governor of Quintana Roo, Mario Villanueva Madrid , and more recently the French citizen Florence Cassez, who was released from the accusation of kidnapping for failures to due process.

He also worked in favor of Villanueva in the Third Collegiate Court in Criminal Matters of the State of Mexico and Cassez in the First Unitary Court in Criminal Matters of the First Circuit.

Villanueva case:

In 2007, Jesús Garcia Vallejo legally represented the former governor of Quintana Roo, Mario Villanueva, in the extradition process but did not conclude it successfully.

Although the lawyer warned at that time that his client had already been tried for criminal association - crime that the United States accused him of and that could not be delivered to the justice of that country because no one can be tried twice for the same crime - Villanueva spent six years and seven months in a Kentucky jail.

At that moment Jesús Horacio Garcia Vallejo no longer represented the former governor who remains in custody so that he finishes fulfilling a sentence against him for fomenting drug trafficking and money laundering for 28 years, 8 months and 7 days in prison, of which there remain 22 years, 7 months and 11 days.

Cassez  Case:

He also served as the second lawyer for the French women, Florence Cassez, who was arrested in 2005 accused and sentenced to 60 years in prison for the crime of kidnapping.

Although the French woman was released in 2013 for violations of due process, Garcia Vallejo did not conclude the matter.

Case of " Z-40":

In 2014, he assumed the defense of Miguel Ángel Treviño Morales "El Z-40", for whom he filed various amparos with which he temporarily halted his detention. However, in March 2016 " Z-40" was detained by elements of the Federal Police in the municipality of San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León and interned in the Altiplano.

He is related to at least 11 criminal cases for crimes against health, kidnapping, theft of hydrocarbons, operations with resources of illicit origin and organized crime, and the federal government pointed him out as one of the most dangerous and bloodthirsty criminals in Mexico. Federal authorities indicated that under his administration Los Zetas carried out violent acts such as the burning of Casino Royale in 2011, in which 52 people died.

  2. Why are lawyers targeted? Did they steal money or know to much intel? I remember from back in the late 90s and early 2000s how attorneys for the Arellano Felix were also executed.
