El Chapo Trial: Drug deals, DEA bathroom impregnation and the Murder of Kato

Chivis Martinez borderland Beat-with material from Keegan Hamilton

Pedro Flores returned to give testimony

Audio was played for the jury of two phone calls that Pedro recorded on November 15, 2008. In the calls Chapo is organizing details of a 20 kilo heroin deal in Chicago.

In the calls:

Chapo, agrees to a discount of $5000 per kilo. He also wants a courier to pick up his money in Chicago and says he'll call Pedro back.

The second call comes in a half hour later on the same day.  Chapo again mentions, that Chicago is the pickup point and even mentions his courier's name (Lazaro). Then he puts another guy on the line to give Flores Lazaro's number and to set Benjamin as Flores code name.

This is the transcript is of two calls made in November 15, 2008.  There is a third call of Vincente Zamabada and Pedro, that I will post at a later date.  They are from court documents.  Chapo’s and Pedro’s name are both abbreviated.  Pedro was not with his brother Margarito in the October meeting in the Sinaloa Sierras, Pedro refers to this in the conversation.

Cross Examination-The murder of Latin Kings leader “Kato”

Purpura cross examined Pedro, as reported yesterday there was a conflict with Lichtman.

Purpura brought up the murder of Latin Kings gang leader, Rudy Rangel aka Kato. Kato and the Flores twins grew up together in the South West Chicago, and sometimes supplied them with cocaine.

On his chest was a tattoo that read: "Destined Forever My Queen Valerie.”

Valerie is Valerie Gaytan, the daughter of a Chicago cop.

Shortly after Rangel was murdered, she became romantically involved with Margarito Flores. They later fled to Mexico together and got married.

Purpura quoted from Pedro’s statements of the past about Kato, where he called Rangel a "thief," and suggested he was stealing cocaine from them.

In referencing the murder, Purpura asked Pedro, "You're going to tell the jury you didn't contract to have that happen?"

Pedro denied it.

Shortly after Rangel was murdered, Purpura noted that Pedro paid over $200K for his brother and Valerie to take a trip to Vegas with a bunch of their friends to see the De La Hoya vs. Mosley fight. They had 60 rooms at the Mandalay Bay, "lobster and steak for everyone."

Purpura noted that the Vegas trip was just three months after Rangel was killed, and that Valerie was pregnant at the time. He asked Pedro again, "You and your brother didn't kill Rudy Rangel, [Kato] not for a woman or 200 kilos [of stolen cocaine]?"

Pedro again denied it again, but the implication had been driven home.

Sam Charles of the Chicago Sun, tweeted that he sat down with Kato’s mother earlier this year.  It has been 15 years after the murder of her son but she is convinced it was the Flores twins who were responsible for the killing.

Impregnation in the DEA bathroom

Next Purpura ‘went there’ with Pedro impregnating his wife in the DEA bathroom.

Pedro managed to get his wife pregnant while in DEA custody. It was in an office building where he was being debriefed. His family was allowed to visit. There were agents all over, but he followed her into the bathroom "while they were distracted."

Purpura followed up by asking a question about how long Pedro and his wife were in the bathroom while the DEA agents were distracted: "I don't want to ask the amount of time but…" That prompted lots of laughter in the courtroom, including from Chapo.

Side bar conversation where Pupura says he is going to ask about the impregnation

Purpura dove into some of the assets accrued by Pedro from his drug trafficking:  He owned 9 houses, 12 tractor trailers ($150K each), and 40 cars, including three armored vehicles, a Ferrari, and a Lamborghini. Pedro also owned 22-26 ATVs, which cost $10K each.

Purpura brought up the book Cartel Wives, co-authored by Pedro and Margarito's wives under the fake names Mia and Olivia Flores. Purpura said they received a $500K advance, plus an undisclosed amount for film production rights. He suggested the trial would make them more money.

Purpura: "It helps sell the book and sell the movie with the more dirt we can throw at The Man, El Chapo, isn't that right?"

Pedro Flores: "I dunno if I agree with you, sir."

    2. I’ve always read that they were more pushovers than confrontational. When disputes arose, and I’m sure many did, they preferred to just let it slide and bury the hatchet....smart enough to know what’s good and what isn’t good for business. I’m not questioning your account, I’m just shocked if they were indeed cutthroat bosses. Regardless, holy shit!!! Talk about spending in toys!!!!

Ruthless is what their punishment will be once the are released from prison. Well before that, their wives will catch it

    4. Violence is not good for business surely some crazy coked out fuckers pushed their luck but its better to let shit slide than to heat things up. Know a guy that shot onother over 10 grand weed deal and lost it all since he had to go on the run ended up in Mexico who knows what happend to him. He could of easily made that up.

    5. These dudes were so high up the chain in the US, they probably didn't even know how much blood was being shed on their behalf. They we're basically brokers, and logistics gurus. They had no Jefe directing them. They paid people to handle the product, and they collected money, and sent it and arms south. They had no reason to be involved in Street Stuff. They're dealers got ripped off, so they'd cover it, and pay Chapo with Mayo or Arturo's, and vice versa...then get product from same guys on spec, and send payments..Rob Peter to pay Paul...but after too many busted loads, and ripoffs they knew they couldn't pay up fast enough. Once they were in Mexico, and couldn't go back to US freely, they had to Cooperate, or be YouTube Stars. Unfortunately these lil ratas have basically got off Scott free...light sentencing, and WITSEC..plus book and movie money...it's sickening. They like Chupeta make our justice system a joke. The Twins physically sold the drugs in the US....not Chapo...Chupeta supplied Chapo...They we're more guilty than Chapo..They're way bigger ratas...Even most of the CW's are way more guilty than Chapo of crimes in the US....Chapo deserves what he's gonna get, but to let these other scumbag putas off so easy is as much a Travesty as Trump being president...Sorry for rant, but this trial stinks of collusion, and civil rights violations...I've lost all faith in my country's ability to be just. 1. Yeah, they were the definition of the plug. They were selling bricks at 18K in Chicago because they were buying directly from the source. You can’t even get a brick for 18k in Texas now a days. That alone lets you know how solid their supply chain was. I’m not sure if that can be repeated again. These twins are up there with Barry Seal in terms of tons sold. Anybody reading this in Mexico wanna give it a go and get it moving again lmao ūüėā. I’ll pitch in.

      Delete
    4. Impossible. 2Pac died in 1996. Kato Rangel died in 2003. It is a different Kato. 2Pac's Kato was a californian gangster friend of Big Syke. Syke introduced him to 2Pac in the early 90's, a year or two later Kato was shot to death. This was in 93 or some, How Long Will They Mourn Me came out in 94 for the THUG LIFE Volume 1 album.

    4. They weren’t cut from that cloth. They are super soft. I’m 34 years old and grew up in Little Village. My older brother went to school with them. They were always well connected but were never tough. They would just cut you off rather than resort to violence. One of them was kidnapped in Chicago well before they went to Mexico and they didn’t retaliate. They actually paid 100 kilos as a ransom. The whole reason they ran to the DEA is because they were scared of violence. It might be the reason they are alive today.

      Delete
    5. I heard the story of one of them getting kidnapped in Chicago as well. The reason they ran to the DEA was Cuz the Sinaloa war was in full effect. These guys worked with both Arturo Beltran and Chapo. They had to pick a side and they knew it would get ugly.

    6. The real psycho of this whole story was that dude Saul from countryside- he was the 1 who had dude kidnapped- also the 1 who told vincente he could have the twins whacked for the right price when they were at the fed jail in chicago- saul also had that dirty chicago cop working for him- lewellen was his name

    7. @6:27 AM These Flores guys sound very smart. Smart guys cut people loose rather than retaliate. Some disagree, but I think in the drug game walking away from some losses leads to longevity. As the Wall Streeters say, "The bulls can make money and the bears can make money. The pigs get slaughtered." And the Flores' knew when to fold, that the game was up. Uncle Sam can be lenient if you show contrition, give up some bucks as well as former associates. He's got a big-ass steel maul if you don't.

  18. Amazing! nothing new though. this was all reported on BB back in 2011 by WCK insights from someone before the books and court docs were released.
The reason everyone knows about Val is because she was always in the mix of things. Her first husband and Kato always introduced her to their clients. Her first husband was a drug dealer before she settled with kato. There have always been a numerous theories why Kato was killed. The 2 main reasons circulated were; 1 revenge for Val attempting to have ex husband killed and betraying him while he was in prison. 2. Kato's long history of burning individuals for fronted drugs, he had the reputation of paying for half upfront and paying rest later. Once he gain their trust of wholesaler he would receive larger loads and not pay as promised. In 2002-2003 there was a price on his head of 500k for a stoled load of coke from a distributer in Chicago. The amount of drugs varied from who you spoke with 50,100,150-200 up to a 1000 load. Kato's attorney is the god father to his son previous relationship and Valerie still kept in contact with Kato's family years after his death.
I find it hard to believe they had a hand in his death due to him still getting his haircut after hours at the twins barbershop. It is well known he had an appointment with Will his barber the night but he changed his plans last minute to go to the westside. Kato was gaining unwanted attention to the LK's and its also well known ACE "Supreme Regional Inca"
second highest-ranking leader nationwide of the LK's street gang
did not like the loyalty gang members were showing him instead. At kato's wedding with Val several NY rappers where there DMX, Fat joe, Irv Gotti
Ace was jealous of this and other recklessness like when Kato stole 90-100 kilos from an CW in the western suburbs and lead police on a highspeed chase with the coke in his SUV all the way back to Little village! This brazen act brought unwanted attention because he pulled it off. Can't make the stuff up he thought to much of himself and didn't think anyone could touch him within the gang or drug dealers because his street juice and the fact his father was close to the main leader Tino. People feared kato for his reputation of violence and didn't confront him directly. It is most likely his own gang played a part in setting him up. The LK with him that night was a leader of the gang in cicero.

    1. Don't say "All Mexicans" and don't forget that nonHispanic whites love drugs and so do the blacks. Black rappers and black gangs brag about how much money they make but don't have any plugs that don't involve Latinos (Latin Europe included) if they the blacks or non-Latin whites disrespect they get dealt with. Not everyone involved in the game snitches as you claim either. The CIA and DEA are heavily involved with Mexican cartels because there's too much money being made to not let them operate. I'm not even glorifying this drug shit but Mexicans run the game even if "others" are involved. Borderland Beat is a site ran by and has contributors that are Mexican or of Mexican descent and the reason you are here posting because it's the real deal about Mexican and Mexican-Americans good or bad so don't run your mouth!

BB followers would be bored with just a sequential sentence or two of courtroom tweets, they expect more information. and that sets us apart. whereas a narco news newbie following us for the courtroom events may be lost. Mica and myself work very hard each day to bring not only the courtroom events, but to add documents, archive articles, photos and backstory information, not seen elsewhere.
