Hot on the Heels of "El Mencho"; Search is on in Mexico City After Confrontation in Jalisco

Yaqui for Borderland Beat from Vanguardia

Nov 26, 2018

On heels of ''El Mencho'', leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, with special operations in Jalisco and CDMX:

On November 22, authorities in Jalisco reported that there was a shootout in the municipality of Tonalá . Although no details were given, it is presumed that the capture of Nemesio Oseguera , alias "El Mencho" , was planned ; however, only one day later a simultaneous operation was carried out in Mexico City, which is speculated to be related to the capture of the leader of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG).

The first confrontation took place on the Cihuatlán-Puerto Vallarta highway, at the height of La Cumbre, where elements of the Mexican Navy were attacked by a group of individuals dressed as civilians traveling aboard several trucks.

In addition to the attack, the criminals burned three heavy cargo trucks to block the way to the security elements, so that members of the Eighth Naval Zone , with the support of members of the 41st Military Zone, arrived at the scene of the incident to carry out searches in the surroundings.

Local media pointed out that the confrontation arose from an alleged operation to capture the maximum leader of the CJNG, after the United States Government, through the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA by its initials in English), increased the reward of 10 million dollars for granting key information that allows their capture.

Although it has been said that Tomatlán, Jalisco, is one of the key points of organized crime and where "El Mencho" could be in hiding, on the morning of Friday, November 23, two strong operatives were held in Mexico City to find his whereabouts.

They look for Mencho in CDMX:

At dawn on November 23, there were two searches in different parts of Mexico City. Although the PGR and the Navy were present , it is not known what they were looking for, but there are already indications of who the possible target was.

At first, elements of the Criminal Investigation Agency of the Attorney General of the Republic (PGR), supported by elements of the Armed Navy of Mexico, conducted a search in a luxury  apartment of a condominium building on Avenida México - Coyoacán ,  in the neighborhood of Xoco, Benito Juárez.

Criminal Investigation Agents conducted another search, almost simultaneously, in an apartment located in a building on Avenida Paseo de la Reforma number 77, in the neighborhood of Cuauhtémoc .

The agents entered with a tools to knock down doors, they left after staying a couple of hours inside the building.

According to a source consulted by Letra Roja, these two operations would be related to the search for Nemesio Oseguera "El Mencho", leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. It must be remembered that he had connections with organized crime leaders in Mexico City and specifically that they were trafficking in the Cuauhtémoc neighborhood.

  1. The HUNT is on for this boy by US government. Only a matter of time when his family will be apprehended.
Bad move on his part waging a war against a machine. Or a damn good move on part of his rivals to finish him off.

  2. Change of gov't coming so his days are numbered. Experts in the field know that the gov't of EPN is in his back pocket but that will not last for long. It is time to say good night and good riddance to the CJNG just like we did to the Zetas. #FREECHAPO #USpoliticalprisonerno1

  9. Uncorrupted elements of Mexican law enforcement need to start fighting dirty. Snatching close relatives of these drug barons would flush them out. Dont hurt the relatives, just hold them hostage.

  18. Can’t believe you’re actually burning the mota; it’s got to be because once they get it into the US and are competing against dispensary cannabis they can’t sell it – it’s too low grade… Not worth the effort to smuggle cannibas from Mexico

    1. @ 7:06 that may be true in states like CA, OR and WA but in red states where weed is still strictly illegal like MO, MN, OH, PN, TX and the whole ex-Confederacy - there's plenty of people willing to pay a few hundred an oz for bricked weed. The distribution channels have been operational for 50 years now, and have gotten more efficient with the advance of communications and transportation technology.

    2. @3:25 not in Texas sir.. an oz of bricked weed runs for about 60 bucks lol.. even kush got cheaper there's just too much of it floating around

  20. I heard from a law enforcement source in Texas the CIA has their "Zombie Squad", made up of elite special forces operators, on the ground tracking and providing logistical support to the Mexican military. He told me "this is the biggest hunt since the DEA went after El Padrino."
