Prosecutors drop 6 charges and multiple violations against El Chapo

Chivis Martinez Borderland Beat

Citing the intent to streamline the case, prosecutors in the Eastern district of New York dropped 6 of the charges against El Chapo, and multiple violations, in the trial scheduled to begin November 5th .

Prosecutors said they eliminated charges, related to the distribution and international distribution of thousands of kilograms of cocaine. Other charges related to the international distribution of cocaine are maintained.

Also, prosecutors eliminated several of the violations contained in the first charge, related to Guzmán's continued effort to violate the law through a criminal enterprise.

The government is will dismiss Counts 5,6,7,8,9 and 11 of the indictment, additionally violations 13-69, 71, 73 - 75, 79-80, 90, 92, and 94 of Count 1.

In April prosecution offered a detailed list of a dozen specific killings that they contended were tied to Guzmán, but were quietly dropped in May by federal prosecutors in New York without any official announcement.

    1. Chapo had a ton of charges, only small amount was dropped. Not a lucky man, like you say, will still be serving a lot of time in the slammer.

  6. Wait till he gets a suite in supermax next to Garcia Abrego. Life is gonna be peaches. He probably regrets some of his decisions that he made...

  7. He probably still has enough charges to maintain his 'pinebox status' without it costing tens of millions more$ for the trial. What do you guys think?

    1. Yes they have enough to put him away for life makes it easier for them to drop some charges less paperwork for them since the train starting in November holidays coming up

  8. I am not a legal expert, but I believe the remaining charges will be enough that the government will still be able to get convictions, and as mentioned, any conviction will get Mr. Guzman a long enough sentence that he will never see freedom again. Also, another issue against Mr. Guzman, will be the escapes he performed in Mexico. The escapes will automatically make him a risk that will warrant superman security clearance. He would be a lucky man to be allowed to do his time in a regular maximum security prison such as Atlanta or Louisberg.

  9. They always drop the lesser charges and go with the hardest hitting ones. They got so much evidence and witnesses against him, hes gonna get life!!! Its gonna be a good trial but not because of the evidence but because of the witnesses that are going to be testifying!!!

  16. Chapo has been a huge piece for the CIA in Mexico for years. They wanted a certain president, have Chapo support him. A cartel was disrupting the flow of the drug gang. Chapo's people would get information for them.

  17. He will do 25 years in exchange for valuable information. The deal is ready to be made.

    1. If that's the case and that a huge IF, hell be around 85 years old when he comes out. Years of cocaine use and viagra use catch up to the body which a vengeance. Not to mention the stressful conditions he's lived under his whole life. 25 years might as well be a life sentence. Like I said tho that's a pretty big IF cuz they already have more than enough to put him in a Colorado cell next to the unabomber for life.

    2. I guarantee you that our government will wanna make an example out of him but if they are smart they should use him as an informant and go after those dirty politicians in those other countries that chapo has on his payroll

  18. You can’t convict a man on hearsay. If his defense is good (which it is), they’ll rip the DA apart. Lesson here is: If you got money you’ll walk or get a lesser sentence. I’ve always said, if you don’t have at least $100k put away for a lawyer you shouldn’t be in this industry.

    2. The lawyers will be spending his money and the usa justice system is going to go balls deep in chapos ass. He will do 20 to 25 and his chearleaders will be sad.

    3. Actually you can convict on hearsay. Plus recording since they got him on tape.

      Delete
    4. Obviously, you are not a criminal defense attorney. There are many exceptions to hearsay- excited utterance, statement against penal interest or by party opponent, business records exception, dying declarations, etc.... The list goes on and on....

  19. The government can blame him for Hurricanes, but his legacy is already made. Rich, famous, infamous and highly respected. Some thing you losers will never have...

    1. He's no longer rich, never had real respect and the artificial one he had is gone. His legacy is a dime a dozen: a cautionary tale of betrayal, violence, and crime that led nowhere. A sad life.
