A group dubbed " the squadron of death", has arrived in Tabasco to carry out "justice"

Translated by Otis B Fly-Wheel for Borderland Beat from a Sinembargo article

Subject Matter: The Squadron of Death
Recommendation: No prior subject matter knowledge required

In a community of Tabasco, allegedly a group of autodefensas has risen dubbed " the squadron of death". Until now one only knew that in the middle of the month of July, they detained and beat an alleged criminal. Local media refer that the rise of the alleged group is a response to the conditions of insecurity and violence that currently affects the town of Paraiso.

Reporter: Sinembargo Redaction
A group of vigilantes known as the "squadron of death" patrol the town of Paraiso, in Tabasco, to carry out "justice" to make accounts for the incessant assault committed in the locality.

In the middle of July, local media informed about a group of inhabitants that were tired of the insecurity in the aforementioned village, decided to act, and in the style of the great redeemers, left for the streets in an effort to stop criminals.

The video on the next page contains violence, and should not be viewed by anyone under the age of 18 according to Sinembargo. (Otis: in reality he only get a few slaps in the face on camera but he has obviously been seriously beaten before the video was made, or at least this section of it.)

In the above video published by the daily Tabasco Today, one observes the first capture by the "squadron", he is identified as a man called Orlando Gallegos Mendez, 53 years of age, who on the 15th of June was captured by locals and the top of the Independence Ranch, in the second section of Comalcalco, for allegedly breaking into a dwelling and assaulting various people.

After being detained, the vigilante group started to beat him, they ripped off his clothes leaving his only in his underwear, they tied his hands and feet, with his eyes and mouth taped, and later he was found bound with wire on calle 5th of May close to the zone known as "El Dragado".

According to local media, the individual was found with two cell phones that he had presumably been carrying, as well as a kitchen knife, and two official identity cards. They inform that Gallegos Mendez had been linked to a group of wrong doers that were terrorizing the neighbourhood, a situation for which he was captured and beaten.

In the video, as well as the alleged criminal there is a board that the autodefensas put there, on which one can see writted, " a todos los rateros que se les sorprenda en Paraiso, se los va a cargar la chingada", or roughly translated, " to all the rats that we have surprised in Paraiso, for you things will change to fucked".

  4. Can't say I find much of an ethical dilemma here; Tabasco has been the domain of the Zetas since at least 2011 and they have made the state a living hell of extortion and kidnapping for all its inhabitants.

That would be the ultimate ideal, politicians and the like should be dealt with extremely for abusing everyone's trust. They are NEVER held accountable in most countries.

  9. Hopefully this is righteous ?
    No matter what nationality,
Mexican,US,European,Asian, whatever, people have the right to defend themselves if their elected government authorities, police, army, marine, mayors, etc(who are paid)are not only failing to protect their citizens, but actually are colluding and in some cases the worst offenders in this scenario. What other course of action do you have ?
People on here have commented about Mireles stepping out of the rule of law and creating lawlessnes and vigilante behavior. Most here have no idea of the climate of fear and constant nervousness that can appear at any time(the fear of kidnapping and even death)crying out for non-existent help, that the people the people of Michoacan for example lived under with those fuckin idiots the Templarios.
What option do you have?In an ideal world citizens shouldn't have to take up arms, how bad is it,if it comes to that ?

  13. Damn . Judging from that bruising on his thorax he wont be able to assault anybody for a while yet . They really kicked this guys ass . If they are good non drug producing/trafficking citizens it should work out . Vigilantes are sometimes associated with bad but really that depends on what side of what they are doing you stand on

For that reason alone I believe I've misunderstood this post at the end where it says he was left bound with wire, he must have been dead when found correct?

  22. Few people are aware of the actual history that surrounds them . Many areas in the US had vigilantes back before things were settled and there wasn't enough law enforcement . The old used to be ghost town where I grew up had a local tree with a railroad spike driven in it for every man that was hung there . I counted 12 spikes . I know of several places within 2 miles of there where outlaws were hung .The old lady living next to us , her father was involved in some of the hangings . There was a man killed in the front yard of the place I live now . Got the wrong guy is what I understand .But you know they thought it was him for reasons . These vigilantes were self righteous enforcers that maybe weren't that great but were part of what kept the peace . If nothing else it became peaceful because the outlaws were dead .
Then from time to time the rangers would come in and kill some of them . Its all part of what got us to where we are today . In past years my area has been considered one of the best places to live in the USA .
