CJNG and Los Zetas clashing for Guanajuato:DEA

Translated by Otis B Fly-Wheel for Borderland Beat from a Milenio article and Google Maps

[ Subject Matter: Zetas, CJNG, Knights Templar, CDG

Only in Irapuato is there a presence of KT and in Salamanca the CDG, indicates the DEA

The most recent report of the DEA establishes that Los Zetas and the CJNG have divided the State of Guanajuato. It also indicates that only in two municipalities there is the presence of other organized crime groups: in Irapuato they are the Knight Templar and in Salamanca the Cartel del Golfo.

The document elaborates on the strategic intelligence of the DEA and denominates Mexico: actualization of the evaluation of major drugs trafficking, areas of the organizations that dominate control, it also details how the cartels operate in national territory.

According to a map, of which Milenio had a copy, the presence of Los Zetas in Guanajuato has credence. Their domination extends to more than half of the municipalities that share borders with San Luis Potosi, like San Luis de la Paz, Victoria, Xichu, Atarjea, they almost control San Diego de la Union and have gained territory in Dolores Hidalgo.

Also along the frontiers with Queretaro, the State of Mexico and part of Michoacán. There they are in the towns of Tierra Blanca, Santa Catarina, Doctor Mora, San Jose Iturbide, a large part of San Miguel de Allende, Comonfort, Apaseo El Grande, Apasea El Alto, Jerecuaro, Coroneo, Tarandacuao, Acambaro, Salvatierra and part of Santiago Maravatio.

Los Zetas also have a presence in Salvatierra, Tarimoro, Cortazar, Jueventino Rosas, and Celaya. Also they have gained territory in Jaral del Progreso, Salamanca and Villagran.

This criminal group, according to the DEA, control percent by percent, the States of Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, Puebla, Tabasco, Campeche, a large part of Veracruz and more than half of San Luis Potosi, that they contest with the CJNG and the CDG.

In all, the CJNG extended their presence into the municipalities of the
State that have a border with Jalisco territory, like Leon, Ocampo, San Francisco de Rincon, Purisima, Ciudad Manuel Doblado, Silao, Romita and Cueramaro.

It has gained territory in San Diego de la Union, Dolores Hidalgo, Irapuato, Salamanca, Villagran, Jaral del Progreso, Santiago Maravatio, Salvatierra, Juevntino Rosas and San Miguel de Allende; also they dominate the towns of the border they have with Michoacán, like Penjamo, Huanimaro, Abasolo, Valle de Santiago, Yuiria, Moroleon and Uriangato.

Also they have control in Nayarit, Jalisco, Aguascalientes, a large part of Michoacán and the zone South of San Luis Potosi. They have also gained presence in Veracruz, Oaxaca and Chiapas.

The DEA report explains that leadership losses of the cartel La Familia Michoacana and the Knights Templar in the last year have been degraded significantly in their ability and operative capacity and cohesion in Mexico territory.

They are a case contrary to that of the CJNG who have achieved expansion. The document explains that this criminal group " utilizes their alliances and exploits the weaknesses of rival cartels to make new territories".

"This cartel finds itself in a privileged position to augment their drug trafficking operations, their wealth and influence in Mexico continues to grow".

    1. It appears Mencho is fighting CDS, Zetas and the Mexican government. Not a smart move in my book. It will start out like fun and games but CJNG will end up like La Familia....Badly beaten and Irrelevant.

    2. Yea, gotta take this with a grain of salt, since it is DEA input. Still, the Z can't be underestimated, they're always up to no damn good, same with KT and CJNG. Strategically, tho, they all seem to be well placed, smack dab in the middle of all these terrible troubles all these HP are causing in Mexico.

    2. I have to drive to Guanajuato from Chihuahua City. I am a little nervous. I have not had an problems personally in recent years other than being pulled over and robbed for mordida of the authorities. I have seen bad things happen to others. I have had many members in my family and frineds and acquaintances like you that never had a problem and then one day lighting strikes. Carjackings on the highway, robberies and a few deaths.

One friend was on her way to Hidalgo to buy clothes for her store here in El Centro Chihuahua. The whole bus was stopped and everyone robbed. Cars and buses are being stopped and robbed all the time hear Zacatecas. You do not hear or read it in the papers because it is happening too often now and they do not to scare tourists. You have to know people in those areas to get these reports which I do. I hope like you that I have a safe trip. But like I say I hope that Lightning does not strike me. It appears tranquil here in Chihuahua. I know people in Cipol and other police entities through family associations. I get the information first hand and normally things that are not allowed to be reported in the papers. They give family members reports before traveling when asked. I am glad you are safe and had a great time.

I love the Mexican people and beautiful Mexico. But there is obviously people that are suffering and not as fortunate as you are I. People do not always open up to people, with information to strangers while traveling, nor is it wise to ask at times. That alone can get you killed. Remember you are only in one of those places you went for a very short time. The race was monitored I am sure. Read about other people that have ridden mountain bikes and their experiences that were not as fortunate, and ran into problems.

If I had a family member that wanted to make the trip and drive from the US I would not advise it.Flying is much safer. Especially with US license plates. If you can afford it you fly to your destination.

My neighbors sister and her husband came across the border at Santa Teresa a month or so ago. They were within eyesight of the border crossing when they were pulled over and robbed by men in camouflage and sporting automatic weapons. They have crossed and came back many times before, just like I have without problems until then. People here are getting their bonuses this weak in Mexico. Everyone knows that carjackings and robberies will escalate so they are more careful. But many will get struck by lightning. Many women here will not carry purses into El Centro. Just like the bear that gets his salmon out of the many that pass, many here will meet the bear.

    3. @ 9:26 Same reason/s people no longer travel to cd Juarez from El Paso TX as much anymore. Although cd Juarez is alot calmer nowadays just the fact that you still worry about the corrupt police pulling over vehicles just to "inspect" them at random as well as the transit police accusing you of breaking stupid traffic laws when the whole city is very badly marked gives headaches for most people to go there and have fun! Add to this the long crossing times that U.S. Customs forces upon everyone returning back to El Paso and their is very little incentive to travel to cd Juarez from El Paso except for a limited few who have relatives that live in Juarez or for work as in other cases! I really do wish people in Mexico with power would read comments like this so that perhaps they would take real steps to clean the corruption in the entire country so that it could be safe to travel by vehicle there once again.

    4. @ 3:30 a.m. You took the free highway thru Tula and Cuidad Victoria? Driving at night? Wow! I go up to S.E. Texas from central Mexico every six months. I prefer the free route, but because of all the violence there, I've been paying for the toll roads around Saltillo and Monterrey. It's good to hear you still go the free route and everything went O.K. I think I'm gonna try it next trip. Anyone else with recent experience going the Tula route?

    5. @926 you are right, is like the zebras running in a pack , and eventually the lion catches the tourist one or the local one that are not careful.....the guy that was on the mountain bike trip, he just happened to get lucky that is all....because some one with a bike rack and american plates are an invitation to get victimized....personally I would fly to mex and just lay low and visit in public places..

Guanajuato is being taken over by CDN. El Sr. Licenciado con los Trevinos "Z" andan bien heavy. The Zetas ain't even close to being a weak cartel. Yes they had some set backs with 40 & 42 being capture. El 45 "Z leader" knows the business really well & he likes to operate in the shadows compare to 40 & 42. They work together as one all the time but yes they are two separate cartels now. The manda in Zacatecas was a lie made by F1 people "CDG". Back to CDS & CJNG do have a truce going on at this moment this is why there is no blood running threw the streets. CDS has there own internal struggles Damaso & Chapos crews vs Mayos Crew & yes Zetas are in Zinaloa thanks to them partners Los Beltranes. El Nuevo Cartel De Juarez & La Ninea work together with Los Zetas, CDN, & BeltraneZ. Chapos cheerleader dont speak if you just get info from Corridos & ain't been there to know.

There have been maybe fifteen people killed over the past few weeks. Probably more. Some girl got shot seven times in the face the other day in a ice cream shop right in middle of town. Two guys shot up in a car day before yesterday. There is a list going around on FB with fotos of people who are local dealers who are marked for death, she was on the list also. Local dealers were supposably with the CT but nobody really know whats going on. Before this all started some narcomantas were put up on bridges in town saying it was CT guardia guanajato coming to clean things up.

  25. Off Topic, but imo this is a major contributing factor in all the horror shows staged in Guerrero and Guanajuata: CALGARY – TransCanada Corp. (TSX:TRP) has won a contract to build, own and operate a US$500-million natural gas pipeline for Mexico’s state-owned power company.
Calgary-based TransCanada says the Tuxpan-Tula Pipeline will help meet Mexico’s increasing demand for natural gas as the country shifts to the cleaner-burning fuel.
The company says the pipeline should be completed by late 2017 and it has a 25-year contract with the Comision Federal de Electricidad to operate the line.

The 250-kilometre pipeline will run from the state of Veracruz to natural gas power plants in central and western Mexico..
TransCanada already owns and operates the Tamazunchale and Guadalajara pipeline systems in Mexico and is working to complete the Topolobampo and Mazatlan pipelines.

By 2018, the company says it will have invested about US$3 billion in the country and continues to look for more opportunities in Mexico." global.ca/news (p.s. 2. All kinds of deals behind the attacks against the humblest of mexicans, the Canadians have been practicing for a long time, the royal mounted were nothing much more than pipe dreams smoking the Canadian indians too, and trying to stick it up the americans asses with their XXXL Sized pipelines for their dirty oil too...what about the shale gas deposits on texas and tamaulipas all ready for the fracking? There only needs to find is the depopulation programs, all the oils and gasses running to feed their chinese enterprises under CANADIAN NAMES, LOANED FOR A FEES, ALL THE RIGMAROLE FOR "OFFSHORED" OWNERSHIP, canada will happily take whatever table scraps the oily oil tycoons of con want to give them, no amerikkkan animals are hopped to be harmed if due process is followed...just fake it all the way to the end zone...

    3. Good information. I am curious to know your main reason(s) for seeing a link to Mexico's "horror show".

I suspect you may be alluding to governmental and business corruption , wherein certain elite "insiders" get "plums" of for putting the gas pipeline "deal" together and the Mexican Nation (common citizens) get leftovers like in Colonial times when Villa and Zapata rode.

I am sincerely curious to know your thinking on this topic because I am also trying to make sense of the horrors in Mexico.

    4. Mexico Watcher, well, like the saying goes, "If, you think you understand what's going on in Mexico, you're misinformed." The thing about the extraction industries is people whom live on the land get in the way of these corporate goons and eco criminals' profit margins. Africa, Colombia, Indonesia may not be neighbors, but each knows first hand that oil and minerals' extraction go hand in hand with genocide. Mexico is beginning to tell her own story of the mass murders of her people by government and industry to the world...Stay tuned... PEACE

  27. Hey 1.21AM, I live in Guanajuato and no crime wave or people killing each other, all ok, my kids walk to school every day. I used to live in Houston and New Orleans (yes, we have dual citizeship), it scared the shits out of me. Last week I read in CNN about 33,000 people killed by gunviolence in the US every yeaar (add other methods, twice as much as in Mexico) (http://edition.cnn.com/2015/10/02/us/oregon-shooting-terrorism-gun-violence/), believe me I FEEL SAFER IN GUANAJUATO THAN IN TEXAS

    1. Yes its safer than Texas

    2. There wasn't 33k killed in the US last year or the year before so I doubt there is 33k people killed by guns each year. I don't know where this number comes from but it's not accurate. I don't know where you lived in Houston or New Orleans but both of those cities have notoriously violent neighborhoods. If you know how to conduct yourself in those neighborhoods you won't have any issues. You my friend must of lived in the shithole part of town and I'm sure you seeing 6 feet plus 200 pound brothers everyday didn't help either. Texas is way safer than any state in Mexico. At least in Texas you can be armed to the hilt but in Mexico you can have .38 special. Wow, I feel safer already. You

  30. Can we take it that by the Z getting up to their old tricks, this means they're basically armed muscle and murder for hire, who'll work for anybody, if the price is right?

    1. Always. That is what they do and always have done since their inception. They were bodyguards first but Osiel knew they could be useful as assassins. The other stuff like drug trafficking, kidnapping and extortion they learned from the established cartels. Assassinations first over all other things.
