Gulf Cartel leader "Panochitas" gets 30 years prison from Court in Beaumont,Texas

Posted on BB forum by contributor NAJ from a Themonitor article.

Recommendation: Some prior knowledge of Gulf Cartel would be useful]

BEAUMONT, Texas — A former leader of Mexico's notorious Gulf drug cartel captured last year in Edinburg was sentenced Tuesday to 30 years in a U.S. prison and fined $100 million.

Juan Francisco Saenz-Tamez was sentenced Tuesday by a judge in Beaumont, Texas, on drug and money laundering convictions.

Saenz , whose cartel nickname is a vulgar Spanish term for the female anatomy, is a 23-year-old native of Camargo, across the U.S.-Mexico border from Rio Grande City. He was arrested in October during a shopping trip to Texas.

Saenz pleaded guilty in January to distribution and possession with intent to distribute cocaine; conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute marijuana; and conspiracy to commit money laundering. Saenz -Tamez confessed he smuggled half a ton of cocaine and 90 tons of marijuana, generating about $100 million, which was taken back to Mexico and reinvested into business to buy drugs and "other things", he told U.S District Judge Marcia Crone in his plea hearing.

Prosecutors say Saenz was responsible for shipping at least half a ton of cocaine and 90 tons of marijuana into the U.S. Investigators believe the drug cartel laundered $100 million.

Federal agents arrested Saenz on Oct. 9, 2014 while he was shopping in Edinburg.

Saenz replaced former Gulf Cartel boss Mario Ramirez Trevino following his 2013 arrest. Saenz rose quickly through the cartel's hierarchy — starting as a lookout, then becoming a record keeper before he became a regional plaza boss.

He'd faced charges in the U.S. since a sealed indictment was filed in September 2013, accusing him of marijuana and cocaine trafficking from Texas to the Southeast U.S. and eastern seaboard. The profits were then laundered back into Mexico.

Monitor Metro Editor Jared Taylor and The Associated Press compiled this report.

Is any of the money confiscated ever coming back to mexico? Nooo, not even to the mexican government, unless they want to buy some weapons...on credit, easy payments...

    2. @6:37 "Is any of the money confiscated ever coming back to mexico(sic)?"
It was made outside of Mexico and smuggled into Mexico and spent. What did the Gov't of Mexico do with all that cash from the precursor house (near DF)?

    1. I was also surprised by his age 23. Panochitas has always been involved in the drug business thanks to his mom Nidia Tamez. Panochitas became really powerful because his mom Nidia was the girlfriend of Mellado. Mellado was the plaza boss of Miguel Aleman and the whole Ribereña. Plus Mellado also controlled a couple of sectors in Reynosa. Nidia was very involved in the drug business plus a lot crimes like stolen ranches, ect. Both Mellado and Panochas committed crimes to satisfy Nidia. Nidia obviously is dead and was killed by TORO the current boss of CDG METROS of Reynosa.
Panochas was sentenced to 30years but let's say good conduct and cooperation will he serve 30???

    2. The Feds give you 3 months for good behavior, every 2 years. That means 45 months= 3 years 9 months. He will be eating prison food for (not for human consumption), for 26 years and 3 months. That is a long time, and it ain't no easy time.

    1. this is the only form the government can tax on illegal drugs, by taking down the cartel leaders. The government could care less if we have a drug epidemic, it's all about the money. Who has it?, who wants it? and where can we get it?

    2. nobody pays those amounts...i bet panochitas doesn't have a million in liquid assets....and no more panochitas for him, just culitos

    3. The fine appears to be equal to the amount he was accused of laundering. @1:11PM - It's highly unlikely that these huge fines are ever paid, but perhaps they provide legal leverage at a later date to seize any assets if found, or give the right to toss him back in jail for unpaid fines after serving his term. 30 years to a 23 yr old is a short wait if he knows he has a nice fortune hidden away somewhere. The US justice system isn't looking for payola.

    4. The only way the government knows how to tax on illegals drugs, by taking down big timers. They let them work for a while and let them accumulate wealth, then they go after them. Fine them and collect, forfeit money, properties and vehicles just like the tax evaders. Government don't care about the drug problem, all they look for is the suppliers...imo

Most bring their own lunch to work instead of eating out. An engineer, or a nurse, or a half decent lawyer can all easily become millionaires if they don't spend their whole paycheck on being flashy. but even that is fun when your starting out in a professional career.

  24. Just wondering why you only hear of any sentencing passed down when the trial is held in the US Mexico has yet to convict and sentence anyone they have caught. That is troubling and an indication that they probably have no plans to do so. Why is this the case? Can anyone provide any sentencing giving to any of the many capos caught in Mexico? How long does a captured capo await trial in Mexico?

  27. He was in america because he was tired of fighting and hiding,... Hiding from the mexican feds, marines, army, navy,... From the enemies.... When the army engages a sicario it is because either they just happen to run into eachother by mistake or an halcon dropped the ball and did not give the heads up.... Unlike mogadishu they do not drive around showing their guns sticking out of the windows on a daily basis... They cat and mouse... All day every day.... If you go to mexico you can see for yourself .... There they go... Seconds later u turn... Now they are going the opposite direction.... Why.... They are evading curcumventing every and all patrol.... Not a life you grow to like you end up disliking every bit of that lifestyle.... So he jumps the river, without being caught... And goes shoping..... When i come back home from mexico the second that i cross the border, there is such a sensation of the gratest feeling that no one will hurt you,.. No gun battles,... No dead bodies dumped on your local seven eleven,.... The tranquility... And he needed that... So he goes shoping and gets busted.... And does thirty years ALIVE, Snitch on yourself because he had no place to run to, Thats why he crossed the river ran out of places to hide and friends.... His moma then killed,.. The minute he gets caught he must of felt a whole bunch of weight off his shoulders and soul.... No more killing,.. Running,.. Hiding.. NO MAS...... 25 mas 30 = 55.... As long as his millions dont disappear or get stolen he will be fine..... Now he snitches on other cartel members and his sentence gets shorter.....
