It smells like war in Jalisco.

Armored vehicle on patrol in Jalisco with capacity to carry 12 soldiers photo; Milenio/ignacio reyes
The troops have been deployed to Jalisco in the strongest show of military might ever seen in Mexico, according to a report today by Milenio.

One week after a criminal gang, believed to be the Jalisco Nueva Generación cartel, shot down a Mexican Air Force Cougar helicopter killing six soldiers, the Armed Forces are on the move.

From San José de Avila to Villa Purificación, the municipality where the attack on the helicopter took place, on the highways and on the approaches to towns in the region, usually under the control of the cartels, is an impressive display of military machinery.

French-made Panhard armoured vehicles carrying 12 soldiers are on patrol. Their 50-caliber guns will fire 1,000 rounds a minute.

But how strong is the vehicle’s armor, a soldier is asked. Strong enough to withstand the shot that took down the helicopter last Friday?

The soldier smiles and says, with typical military frugality, “Yes.”

Residents look at the show of force with astonishment, but they’re not displeased. In fact, they’re glad to see it, although none will appear in front of a camera to say so.

“The truth is, we feel calmer seeing the soldiers everywhere with those huge tanks,” says the woman at an Oxxo store.

“It’s like a movie,” says a woman to her husband while soldiers look over their truck at a checkpoint.

But the scene — armored vehicles, soldiers with bazookas on their shoulders and rocket-powered grenade launches ready to fire — is real enough.

It smells like war in Jalisco.

    6. It's like IUDs will not explode on this "different" country of jalisco...
On the times of Maximiliano de Habsburgo, he went from era cruz to el DF, guanajuato, to jalisco, the french of today are.following the same path on their quest for a pound of flesh, again, to save their rotten economy, after getting 3 billion dollars from the saudis to supply the Lebanese with weapons that I suspect were the ones ISIS uses to conquer the oil producing nations of the Arabian lands...
--Now mexico is using more french tech to stick it to the people, to earn it's keep...
After all is said and done, mexico will get more rich satraps that belong on the international sphere of the billionaire in exchange for more mexicans kept on the 5th class of the 3rd world's poor, struggling for a neo-liberal education that nobody needs anymore, now a victim of PIIGS producing economies...
--we the people are not looking for any of this, it is all government neo-nazi criminals, following other more worldly neo-nazis...

If the shit hits the fan bet the Marina will show up with their nuts hanging. The Army on the other hand will depend on the actual troops and their recon. Some of these Army units will tip off the cartels and allow their military brothers to be ambushed ie. Copter crash.

Check this out....Obama will not send a substantial amount of troops to Iraq because we promised to hand over all control of the government to the Iraqis by 2012. That's the promise that Bush gave and so did Obama. The promise was kept point blank but them damn chicken shit Iraqi soldiers who are scared of their own shadows can't carry the load. So guess what? A US led coalition has to launch missiles an drop bombs to help out. Every time someone brings up ISIS and how scared the US is of ISIS is getting old. ISIS doesn't have anything to do with the forum so STFU about it.

  15. RPGs will stop tanks, depending how heavy the armor. These don't look like they are all that armored. RPGs took out US tanks in VN, but the worst were USMC amtracs with gas tanks on the bottom, which became instant ovens trapping their passengers when the ran over land mines.

It has been published in the Mexican press that CJNG killed three people in Tlaquepaque for being thieves, left their bodies on the street with a message.

@11:13 AM: Modern tanks can go 70 mph or so. Armored cars are actually faster. These have wheels, not tread, so they will be faster. They look like the armored vehicles the US police departments are using.

  17. IED are made from stolen or abandoned explosives in a war zone. Something that thank god is in extremely short supply down here.

I "witnessed" from maybe a 5km distance in Michoacan a bad battle. It was at night. Flashes of light followed by thumps of pressure that hammered the chest. Crackles of weapons fire. It was scary as hell. This is my country not some fucking arabe sand dune. Take your empty macho bullshit and FUERA!

    1. It's scarier when they're aiming at you. Confusing as hell, too. No one knows what happened until the smoke clears (there is plenty of smoke from flares, especially the ones off Navy ships whose canisters falling to earth sound like trash cans whistling as they tumble to earth, if you can imagine such a thing). No, you don't want a war here.

  20. Dear Mencho.

You are a smart guy. So think about this. A war with the Feds in Jalisco will eventually hurt everyone. I am a businessman here. My company employs 190 hard working software engineers. Some of them have friends and relatives in CJNG. All their jobs are at risk if global clients stop sending work to Jalisco because of your violence. Worse, when roads are blocked United Airlines and US Air and other US carriers can suspend flights to GDL further hurting the economy. The US press will make it sound like Afganistan down here and the economy will slow down to a point where your honest friends and family will lose legal jobs.

Armored military vehicles on the streets of GDL is enough to make business people look for another city or country to invest their time and money to create more honest jobs.

Bottom line - If you turn this place into another Michoacan everyone loses including CJNG.

  25. The data on the gun the panhard carries is incorrect. Its a browning M2 .50 cal which cycles on a good day at 550 rounds per minute. Most are set to about 450 for reliability reasons. Even 7.62 heavy machine guns don't cycle at 1000 rpm, the slicker actioned 7.62 like the FN run at around 700. The German MG42 will fire at over 1000 rpm. But at that rate you have to change out barrels every 500 or so rounds or the barrel will get too hot for sustained fire.
