CJNG: Mexico's fastest growing cartel

“It’s the fastest expanding cartel and they could in the near future overtake the Sinaloa cartel as the most significant organized group in Mexico.”

Meet Mexico’s fastest growing drug cartel.  It even builds its own rifles

by Ioan Grillo

MEXICO CITY — From the outside, the two buildings looked like thousands of other farmhouses in Mexico’s agricultural heartland of Jalisco, where products include potent tequila. But when police raided them in October, they found industrial metal cutters, blowtorches and bullet cartridges.

A drug cartel had used them, Jalisco investigators revealed, to assemble their own AR-15 assault rifles.

“It’s highly sophisticated machinery with very precise software that allows them to make the cuts to finish the guns, which work perfectly,” Jalisco Attorney General Luis Carlos Najera said last year.

The authorities blamed a snappily named gang: the Jalisco New Generation cartel. (correction: Cartel Jalisco New Generation).

The same cartel has hit the news again with a series of assaults on police and officials. On Monday, gunmen ambushed a convoy of state police in San Sebastian del Oeste, killing 15 officers in one of the worst attacks on police in recent years.

That followed attacks last month, too. On March 20, in the town of Ocotlan, a dozen trucks of gunmen ambushed federal police, killing five officers. On March 31, cartel thugs attacked the Jalisco security commissioner causing a shootout in an urban area of Guadalajara.

The offensives and gun factories show how the New Generation is defying the government’s crackdown on traffickers.
The cartel is also expanding its territory, with tentacles stretching from its base in the midwestern state of Jalisco as far as Cancun in the southeastern tip, and even up to the border with Texas.

“It is spreading like a cancer in Mexico,” says Mike Vigil, former head of international operations for the Drug Enforcement Administration. “It’s the fastest expanding cartel and they could in the near future overtake the Sinaloa cartel as the most significant organized group in Mexico.”

Lucio note: none of the victims in Boca del Rio had ties to organized crime.

  1. El Mencho is going to be Public Enemy #1 in the eyes of the Mexican government. Whatever deals that this organization has with anyone in power is not going to protect them because they are killing so many cops. This also makes the government of Mexico look extremely weak and not in charge of anything except the Federal district...if they are even in charge of that. The President should send in Marines, Army and Special forces in the 1000s with orders that this group is a clear and present danger to the security of Mexico....All leaders should be assassinated on sight.

    1. We need to start calling them "matapolicias" to give them a bad reputation. Also to show how weak the police (government) is.

    2. Maybe the big dogs from sinaloa don't want to loose all the govt. connections that they still have in el D.F. and in Jalisco to the CJNG cause if they do the'll loose everything including the .. 'tomato' in their own state... they would have to be running like chickens and rooster out of their own ranchos, to where?? Lol

  2. Really in Jalisco?!?! Damn so far that town had not had any Cartel news. Military better put a stop to it before Tequila prices go up here in the US

As much as you can say CJNG is in Cancun all cartels are there CDS ,BELTRANES ,ZETAS,GEURREROS, nobody owns it nobody can fight for the plaza the government owns the plaza they can only fight for piso to distribute.so how is CJNG spreading lime wild fire confusing article in my opinion in south Texas border where do they have precence maybe zetas that flipped still not considered CJNG because they can flip on them when they please

    3. Tequila, on track to be foreign owned, Corona is foreign owned already, Cerveceria Cuauhtemoc next too, Cuervo is on american distilleries employees lips as their proud companies future property...better go back to mezcal artesanal or any mexican moonshine,or pulque right from the maguey, muñeca y todo...Mexican slaves are not supposed to own anything, not even shares...

      Delete
    4. Though sarcastic, the poster is right, it could affect prices. With today's exchange rate, a bottle of Cazadores runs 10 dollars! Jalisco and especially these touristy areas were extremely peaceful for a long time. I can't imagine the governement won't aggressively do something, but unfortunately I think they are inept to some degree

    6. Actually inbev just owns the brand corona in the US market. They own chicago based crown imports which imports and distributes corona. They do not own it it outright. Grupo modelo owns the rights to sell everywhere else. And modelo also owns the factories. Inbev however does own 100% of anheiser bush. Check your sources son.

    7. Corona de Mexico, Cerveceria Modelo all bought and paid for by anhauser-busch in mexico, they may have split operations to hide and shelter profit from greedy governments, the usual...

    8. Wrong. As a matter of fact anheiser bush is bought and paid for. Not modelo buddy

      Delete
    3. Zetas kicked the shit out of CDS so how can they not be compared to them. CDS outnumber Zetas 4 to 1 back in the day and they still kept CDS at bay. They had Chapo scared to leave Sinaloa. Los Pelones, Antrax and Nueva Gente were we're beat to hell in head to head clashes with Zetas. Where are they now?

      Delete
  7. I really do doubt they will be stronger than sinaloa.. el mayo has too much power.. and mr guzman is still giving orders from prison. . Like I said before el chapo will be out before thanks giving this year. Just watch. What do you guys think ?

    3. @5:43 I think you're high asf. Chapo will never see the light of day. His time in the game is done.

      Delete
    4. I do think that CDS is not going to be taken over by CJNG but Chapo is not getting out this year unless he somehow escapes which I highly doubt. The truth is however, Mencho will never gain the mythical status like Chapo did but as 9:11pm said his time is done.

      Delete
    5. If Chapo is really to see the light, it won't be during EPN's term. More likely with a new president if he is able to buy him.

  8. CJNG is an organization that you could literally chop the head off and destroy the monster. Just like BLO or CT. Unlike, CDS which is ingrained into all aspects of society in Northern Mexico. Much like gang members in LA cannot be wiped out because they are unfortunately part of the community for better or worse. A fabric of our society.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Don't compare the cartels in Mexico to the gangs in LA. The gangs in LA wouldn't last a hot minute in Mexico.

      Delete
    2. Yup, you got that right.

      Delete
    3. If el mencho is caught then the cartel is the same, the reason why is that the cartel is made up of hundreds of 8-50 person crews. Each crew has a boss who reports to a boss or reports to the big boss.

The Mexican cartels are assassins fro Hell LA gangs punk pussy wannabes. Don't be a cartel nutt hugger. The cholos in L.A. have more balls then these pendejos that snitch as soon as they are caught. The gangs in L.A. Don't seem so vicious like the cartels do because there's law enforcement in L.A. Numb nuts

      Delete
    11. Fucking pendejos pillow fighting over who has the best gangsters. LA or Mexico? I will say this.....Mexicam cartels need LA gangsters and other gangs to even push their weight in the US. If the Mexican Mafia shot callers put out a red light on a certain cartel's drugs passing thru Califas then no more drug route for that cartel. If you get caught selling an unapproved cartels dope you are dead and your dope jacked. La M has every Sureno at their disposal so it could happen. And that's that end of story.

Once he's spotted you can bet your ass the US is going in personally to get his ass. No ands, ifs or buts outta EPN. It's going to be a unwritten deal already sealed. RCQ has nothing to do with what's going on. He values his life for the time being supermax he does not want. This is Mencho and Mencho alone heating the place up.

    2. For real, Quintero not in on any of this. I agree with the heads up and everyone already knows USA special forces going in on intelligence and factual sighting. No issues with sovereignty in his take down. There may be a confrontation with Mexican military but they will back down.

  20. 6:48 there was no comparison, it was a simple analagy regarding parasite cartel members and ghetto gangs in inner cities. both have left an impact so deep on their respected societies, that it would take literally an ethnic cleansing to even try to change things. We all need to stop being so damn touchy, we get it mexicans are big bad asses ( when in large groups or holding heavy weapons towards women and children) and let's face it seal team (pick a number) could exterminate any boss at any given time. The problem is cartels don't pose a domestic threat, they love America until they get caught...

Making your own AR15 is pretty easy, they sell kits in Arizona and other gun nut states. Zetas had all the guns they ever wanted and still ended up all orig members dead or arrested it makes no difference they can't survive against nation state resources like drones and spy satellites to find them.
