After the CDG split Aparicio challenged Treviño for leadership of the lower gulf states, this led to a personal war between the two Zetas which ended with Aparicio being forced out after Zetas discovered he, along with his brother, was conducting criminal activities separate from Zetas, and aligning themselves with opposing groups, such as Sinaloa and CDG.
Aparicio's brother was kidnapped and a demand of 1million pesos was issued. Aparicio realizing his activities had been discovered, took refuge in Veracruz. His brother was rescued from a safehouse, during an operation by PJE with coordination with the Mexican Army that targeted the Zetas kidnapping ring.
