3 die in Matamoros

Three unidentified armed suspects were shot to death after firing on a Mexican Navy helicopter in the border municipality of Matamoros Friday afternoon, according to Mexican news accounts.

According to an official news report posted on the website of Tamaulipas state government, the incident began Friday at 15:25 hrs, when a Mexican naval helicopter observed several armed suspects traveling aboard two vehicles in ejido Francisco I. Madero.  Some of the suspects fired on the bird, causing naval personnel to return fire.

Naval return fire killed three.  Others in the convoy escaped the scene.  Mexican security forces seized a Chevrolet Equinox SUV and an AK-47 rifle.  The dead were all men in their 20s.

    3. Actually you've should have seen an incedent back in 2010 in michoacan when the CT and LFM were fighting each other a blackhawk interviened but both sides fired reportely one of them fired a rocket at the helicopter and had to leave

  3. It is hard to believe someone would shoot at a military helicopter and not expect to get ripped to pieces. But I think this is what the navy should do, when the cartels are rolling around in their convoys. Spray them with bullets

  6. Bird is the word! Blackhawks helicopters have redundant (more than one of each control) systems in case they are hit. More than one pilot, more than one gunner. One heavy weapon Is usually sufficient though there are always going to be individual weapons of the aircrew. I saw a news photo of a Mexican gunner manning a mini-gun from a helicopter. It is the type with rotating barrels like the jungle firefight in the movie predator. If this weapon or a 50 cal was used then the deceased would be 'tore up'.

The Mexican Navy usually uses the Mi17sh for air support. Between 2010 and 2012, their practice was to place a sharpshooter aboard to help with ground forces. The minigun would be too much firepower in a zone where they could hit innocents, as would a door machine gunner.
