Gulf Cartel distributes tons of supplies to victims of hurricane ingrid

Proceso (9-22-13) (www.proceso.com.mx/?p=353468)

Translated by un vato for Borderland Beat
TAMPICO, Tamaulipas (proceso.com.mx).-- Faced with the lack of response from federal and state governments in helping Tamaulipas communities affected by Hurricane Ingrid, the Gulf Cartel (CDG; Cartel del Golfo) is mobilizing and delivering several tons of supplies to hundreds of inhabitants in Aldama and counties in the southern part of the state.

The CDG posted a video on Sunday morning on social networks where it shows the aid it delivered to inhabitants of Aldama and other towns that were left isolated by Ingrid's torrential rains.

The video begins with the title "Gulf Cartel helping Aldama", and its first "mission" begins precisely in that city.

The first images show several pickups loaded with supplies such as cans of food, water, rice, corn flour, milk, juice, cookies and water in the parking lot of a shopping center in this city.

The video was animated with captions such as, "They have been good people, in good times and bad times in Aldama", and they show when they begin to unload the groceries to distribute them among the affected citizens.

"If they are helping, it's because they have heart", "There is no other motive seen here except to help", reads the text, while they record the distribution of groceries to hundreds of women, children and elderly men, who were affected by Ingrid

The video was uploaded to YouTube and copied on several social networks such as Facebook, where bloggers asked how an organized crime organization can mobilize with total impunity and ease to reach affected neighborhoods, while state and federal governments have been unable to do so.

"They even recorded a video for this propaganda", reads one of the comments in the web page Valor por Tamaulipas.

"But how is this possible? How is it possible that a criminal group, can mobilize with impunity into communities where the state government, the Army and the Navy are stationed," it adds.

"It's incredible; supposedly the military was carrying out the DNIII (project), so how is it possible for a cartel to go into an area where the DNIII is in place?" concludes the comment.

  11. They were delivering the aid in their stolen trucks, that were taken with violence against and sometimes death against citizens. They want to make sure the people get up and running and making money so they can keep their extortion money going. No matter what they do they are still criminal losers. Deliver food to the people and drugs to help others suffer so they can get rich. How ironic.

  15. You'd be amazed how many people there are here in Tamaulipas who fall for this BS by the cartels, and actually think they're good people. They're the same people who will be terrified one day because a cartel murdered their neighbour's children, then the next day when a cartel member buys their daughter a diamond engagement ring, they forgive everything. They're like Dory from Finding Nemo.

Some people say the Templarios' videos and mantas are a ridiculous waste of time. I say they're a reflection of how irrational and impulsive a large portion of the Mexican population is.

You're right. It's pretty staggering how much more gullible a lot of the citizens here are (and I might be guilty of this too) when they're desperate for money and whatnot and the cartels give them stuff. There was a young woman in my community whose father was kidnapped and killed by the Templarios who then went ahead and married a Templario, knowing full well who he was, but (in the opinion of everyone who knows her) was lured by his money. He left her of course, and now she hates the Templarios again. And as you'd imagine, this all happened before she turned 20.

I seen some similar videos and pictures from members of CDS in Culiacan with their short videos of helping people and mostly just fooling around in their RZR's and lifted Jeeps. The thing is, might look as a great gesture and good hearted when in doubt could be a way of winning over the public.

  32. Jesus said : Matthews 6 “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

  33. So lets get real with this. These are the type of projects I conduct as part of my foundation work. As recently as last month during the flooding of PN and surrounding areas .

This is NOT serious cash, this is serious show. I estimate it is apx 15K USD. not much at all. My projects include staples, pantries, cleaning supplies for flood damage, medical supplies water and even a few toys. We access need and come back with mattresses, appliances and whatever else is deemed needed (within a week)
    cost is Apx 50-90K

It does no good to throw supplies at people, that results in a few people getting all the supplies.

The overwhelming majority of citizens are speaking out on social network disgusted by this overt act of propaganda and have even asked that blogs not run the story. There is plenty of support in Tamps. storms causing floods can be tracked and prepared for, that is what I did with Alex which washed out bridges cutting off supplies, we already had our supplies in place ready to go.

When you began to think "I don't care who does it as long as someone does
you have crossed the line of accepting gifts brought by death and drugs. there is no gray areas...

and this was a pitiful amount spent from a group that earns millions in organized crime activities each month, it is all for show.

My guess is the answer that may just be YES...if you say that you've never wanted to recognized for a good deed, then I'd say that your a damn LIAR,period. Nobody celebrates CDG for any of those terrible acts of violence, except CDG,I'm guessing, but if they brung food/supplies to people and CHILDREN in need, then so be it! At least tonight we know that a number of children will not go hungry/a number of parents call rest a little more comfortable tonight knowing that their child was feed...which in my book, whomever it came from did something good...if it's the only damn good thing they've ever done in life. People;white/black/Hispanic need to stop concerning themselves with the who/what/where and deal with the what is...and what is a fact is that CHILDREN were fed,PERIOD. Shit,if a man/men have a moment of clarity...if just a moment as to where they'd like to do something good, well I say fuck it,let it be...because maybe, just maybe,it could do something to them in reference to helping them change. God is here for everybody, the good and the bad people...he's not just for all you GOOD people. Shit,I've been in this world for a good spell, and I can tell you,I don't know of many socalled GOOD people (that haven't done ANYTHING bad in their lives, that is) that have or will do anything for any damn body! Most folks are too damn concerned with themselves (not even their own family members) to care and/or worry about doing shit for anybody else! Not glorifying or justifying none of that sensless ass killing of far too many people (GOOD or BAD),just more concerned with hungry CHILDREN...PERIOD.

I definitely believe it. The fact that the Golfos still bother to make propaganda like this shows that there's some response. And I'm interested in a few of the comments here: some people have said 'Mexicans are gullible', others that 'it's the whole world, not just Mexicans', other that 'Mexicans are blinded by their obsession with marriage and jewelry etc.'
I think that we need to be careful about generalizing, but there's definitely something true in all of those comments. I've lived in Mich for the last 22 years, and I can tell you that although Mexicans aren't essentially different from the rest of the world with respect to being gullible etc., the strong ties to tradition (which, for women, does revolve around marrying wealthy guys when you're young). I think in Mexico the combination of widespread poverty with the POSSIBILITY of accessing tons of money leads to a uniquely money/status-driven culture.
So in summary, I think that the presence of a lucrative drug trade in a poor country has caused Mexico to hold superficial values more than anywhere else I've been.
This is why you see regular citizens willing to turn a blind eye to the violence if it somehow garnishes their own status.
