Reporting on the Mexican Cartel Drug War

US Rappers Dedicate Their Songs to Mexican Drug Lords

Monday, June 17, 2013 |

Borderland Beat  Posted on BB Forum by "Bjeff"

Mexican drug traffickers, their activities and luxuries are no longer exclusive to narcocorridos and have moved to a new type of music: US Rap.

American rappers are dedicating their songs and album covers to major Mexican drug lords. In his latest video, Drojo, a Mexican-American rapper, appears hooded, pointing a gun at a man kneeling in front of him. With the sound of a radio communication in the background, he sings: "Give me the money, give me the money."

In an interview with El Diario de El Paso, Drojo says the 'Narco Wave' comes from the concept of the way he has lived all his life.

"Now I live on the border and the drug here is cheaper than in North America. This drug is a reality that many people do not know, especially further north", Drojo explained on the telephone.

In the same 'wave' is Gucci Mane, an African American rapper who has dedicated his first single to Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman, the main capo of the Sinaloa Cartel.

In his lyrics Gucci Mane says: "All I wanna be is El Chapo. Three billion dollars in pesos."

Drojo says it is an easy thing to explain: "In the eighties it was Miami, Cuban drug dealers, but now Mexican drug traffickers are the ones who are doing it".

Another one joining the list is Tony Yayo, a member of the rap group G-Unit, who dedicated his latest cover photograph to the popular Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, in a jacket and a cap and coffee within the Mexican criminal where eloped for over 10 years.

The album cover contains a visual effect whereby the face of El Chapo Guzman becomes Tony Yayo, who wears a black jacket, neck chain and cap with New York Yankees.

Yet behind an attempt to "exalt" the leaders of the Mexican cartels are sales, says Drojo. "the word 'drug' is now very popular on this side of the border.

Drojo, on the other hand, says that his intention is not to glorify the drug trade , but to demonstrate a social context.

"It is not to glorify the drug , my concept is more like a movie, is something that is happening, but I'm trying to see it as a movie."

He also said to have had to be "very careful" with not mentioning of any capo and even with the same word 'drug'. "I have family, I have kids and I do not want no problem with a capo on a misunderstanding, we are careful with our words," he says

Grow up morons, your heros live off your back. They would spit in you before acknowledge you. Your hero worship is a joke.

Chivis- My kids have always listened to rap due to my listening to NWA,Ruff Riders, Eminem etc.back in the day. Yes,educated people do listen to rap. That said, in the past 10+ years drug dealers have invested millions into it. Google BMF(Black Mafia Family) to understand why so many rappers love drug cartels. The DEA has dropped by Gucci Mane's place in Atlanta on a regular basis. Most of the idiots named here can't rap period. But,it's all about the money and drugs. Of course they will praise whichever cartel supplies them. Sad and dangerous. Thanks for letting people know about this...it has everything to do with the war on drugs. And,for all you lame want to be's on this site, please shut up. Peace,Texas Grandma.

Gucci's song might have the worst hook ive ever heard. But then again it is gucci so what did i expect

lol what an ignorant little turd

Anonymous said...

The rappers praising Chapo just doesn't seem right. I mean, leave it for the corridos. What the rappers need to do is praise the heavy pushers on the US side. Because there are heavy hitters in the US as well, stick to that negros.
You rapping about Chapo, " all I wanna be is Chapo " sounds so pathetic.

Anonymous said...

about time they praise the people supplying their hood with crack, meth, weed etc.

Sad day for everybody not just america mexico too.ear pollution

Anonymous said...

I'm not going argue whether these guys have talent. Surely, this is not the purpose of this post. I didn't feel the need to listen. But, how is this different from Hollywood and their gangster movies? Is it because cool actors get paid millions to make them and we have an entire industry that makes money from them? I'm confused...

I am writing a post about Mexico's Narco Rappers.

I do not know the more popular ones so I ask for your help. I know a lot about Cano & Blunt out of Tamps but need other names. There is Sinaloan rapper named Hector Diaz, do you know his most popular songs?

I want to contrast the US vs Mexico rappers, not so much in style but in constituent.

Thank you,

Two different cultures, but poverty and ignorance is what breeds the narco lifestyle whether its in Culiacan or The Bronx. I live in so So Cal and nothing around here can compare to the fukd up shit that happens in mex. here drive-bys are common, mex ur moms head is chopped up. How the fuk can an American rapper relate any of that to an english audiance? I bet teenage white boys will start getting into paisa corridos and yelling arriba Sinaloa. Afterall they love to imitate African-American rappers.

CDG and Zetas invest heavily into "narco-rap". Since CDG/Z originated in the Nuevo Laredo, Matamoros, and Reynosa they were heavily influenced by rap introduced to them by Mexican-Americans across the border/ friends, primos, family, etc coming back from the USA/ and ofcourse the internet. I don't know about AFO/CDJ, I'm not from there.

CDG rap has way more exposure though. Don't know why, maybe it's because they have more online presence.

Metro-3 rap song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pfrp8_JkABo

Los L's rap song(hit squad working in the Matamoros area for the CDG) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZK6_mkcGvyg

And finally here's the page of FRONTERAPASADA. This guy has uploaded dozens, if not hundreds, of rap songs (also corridos) about the Zetas, zeta commandantes, zeta estacas, zeta exploitations, etc. Also has rap songs about the BLO. I highly suspect this guy works and gets paid for public relations or something of that nature.http://www.youtube.com/user/FronteraPesada/videos

Thats true Mex and Salvadoreans are not scared of death. It might be in our genes. Our cultures are always celebrating life to the max. Thats why gabachos make fun of speedy gonzalez and drunkie stereo type macho big mustache mex. Ruthless deaths and war are part of life in Mex since before the Europeans landed. Its not really somethong to b proud of but in a bar fight ur chances of taking down a mex are slim to none.

Anonymous said...

only a few mexicans are making the huge money, just like everywhere else, wedos dont need to build networks they have already been laid down hundreds and hundreds of years ago, cocaine meth and heroin are nothing new, who invented them?? wedos you big dummy, what about the hypodermic needle?? wedo, what about the accordion?? wedos, have you ever heard of bayer?? bayer makes more in one year than all of your mexican dto's in ten, so dont try to match tit for tat, you fools are still trying to smuggle drugs across or under a fence, while we have planted a flag on the mother fuckin moon. bitch!! how strong is mexican steel?? not very

Anonymous said...

whether this is contrived by the government or they all really do like Chapo

i'm sure its a little bit of both

it's bad news for Chapo other high level operators because it's going to greatly multiply the pace that more and more people are becoming aware of their names, faces, and legal status

when you look at the underlying tone most rap songs are just musical commercials that give more and more people information

BB needs to call you up bro so that we can get good info on narco hip-hop. In my opinion pro CDG/Zetas rappers from the Tamaulipas frontera are the pioneers of the narco hip-hop game. I've listened to some of the narco-hip hop. The CDG/Zetas rappers rap music is off the chain. The most famous Mexican-American rapper of all all time was originally from
Falfurrias, 70mi. north of McAllen, and had roots in McAllen : South Park Mexican(SPM). SPM was on the verge of Superstardom up until he was sentenced to 45 yrs. in prison for raping a young girl. I grew up listening to rap and was big fan of Tupac, DMX, Dr. Dre, Cypress Hill, 50 cent, TI to name a few. My younger brothers introduced me to SPM. They new more about rap than I did. Your right. The kids in the Matamoros, Reynosa, and N. Laredo are probably highly influenced by American Gangsta rap introduced to them by relatives on the Texas side of the border. The hip-
hop musical styles are similar except the narco hip-hop is in Spanish. Like one famous Chicano, Kid Frost, rapper would sa : 'This is for La Raza".

Look up this other MC : Zach De La Rocha of Rage Against The Machine.
