Mexico marines capture "El Junior", son of deceased Capo, Tony Tormenta

The son of former top Gulf drug cartel boss Antonio Ezequiel Cardenas Guillen was captured by marines, the Mexican Navy Secretariat said Tuesday.

Ezequiel Cardenas Rivera was detained last Friday along with four associates while he attended a party at a house in Matamoros, a border city in the northeastern state of Tamaulipas, the secretariat said.

The arrest of Cardenas Rivera, known as “El Junior,” was made possible by a tip and “naval intelligence work,” the secretariat said, without explaining why it waited four days to announce the capture.

The suspects, who were armed, were detained as they started to drive away from the house “in a hurry,” the Navy Secretariat said, adding that no shots were fired in the operation.

Jose de Jesus Garcia Hernandez, 32, suspected of being the Gulf cartel’s boss in Matamoros, located across the border from Brownsville, Texas, and Rene Alberto Munguia Elizondo, 43, who worked as an accountant for the criminal organization, were arrested along with Cardenas Rivera.

The other two suspects detained in the operation were identified as Javier Enrique Farias Garcia, 49, another Gulf cartel money man, and Erasmo Garcia Galvan, 37, who specialized in smuggling drugs into the United States.

Marines seized three rifles, six ammunition clips, 180 rounds of ammunition, five fragmentation grenades and three vehicles from the suspects.

All of the suspects were flown to Mexico City and handed over to the Siedo organized crime unit of the Attorney General’s Office last Saturday, the secretariat said.

Antonio Ezequiel Cardenas Guillen, known as “Tony Tormenta,” was killed in a shootout on Nov. 5, 2010, with marines, marking one of the biggest blows dealt by the government to Mexico’s drug cartels.

The Gulf cartel was founded by Juan Nepomuceno Guerra in the 1970s and was later led by Juan Garcia Abrego, who was arrested in 1996 and extradited to the United States.

Osiel Cardenas Guillen later became the Gulf cartel’s undisputed boss.

Cardenas was arrested in 2003, but he continued running the Gulf cartel, one of the most violent and powerful criminal organizations in Mexico, until his extradition to the United States four years later.

Antonio Ezequiel Cardenas Guillen took over the Gulf cartel’s leadership following his brother’s extradition to the United States

  6. In Nuevo Laredo, Mexico el Z40 Miguel Trevino ordered the murder of his own boss Alfonso- El Poton- Pena. They say El Poton was killed b'cause he would not give El 40 5,000,000 dollars to pay the Z's sicarios. El Poton's brother Tony Pena is well known in Laredo, Tx for his big time money laundering operations, and for openly giving information to law enforcment agencies, ie DEA & FBI after his arrest on drug trafficking charges and money laundering. El Poton's body was found by el Monumento a los Fundadores with a shot to the head.

  11. Mexico Norte.- The capture of Ezequiel Cardenas Rivera, son of the late head of the Gulf Cartel, Antonio Ezequiel Cardenas Guillen "Tony Tormenta, unveiled yesterday by the Mexican Navy took place at a hotel in Matamoros that host to dozens of federal police for the last two years.

  13. Don Roberto(Beto) Villarreal Correa was in charge of Nuevo Laredo, he was under the command of Don Juan N Guerra. Don Beto fell from Don Juan's grace after he was indicted and investigated for money laundering and trafficking by American Federal Authorities. Later Don Beto went out of business and eventually retired due to health issues. After his retirment El Poton Pena took the place of Don Beto, always keeping a low profile. When the Gulf Cartel and the Z 's separated El Poton sided with the Z's still keeping a low profile but he was above Z40.

  21. The Pena brothers in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico are 200 times richer than Miguel Trevino z40. They are the ones who tell the z's how to sing. They are very well politically connected. I thing that is why the other guy said that all hell is.going to get loose. The Penas are good friends of Don Felipe Garcia, and.old drug trafficker and ex-convict still very powerful. And people expects this man to do something about the murder of his friend.

  22. @ November 30, 2011 5:01 PM .Yes true, but do you really expect them to step to Zs,they all fuckin loco en la cabeza,40 is almost untouchable right now.Would any of you willingly fuck with Zs?They all connected yes, which cartel runs Nuevo Laredo? If 40 did order it,what does that tell you?

  24. @ Nov 30 2011 7:11 PM. Well this Penas are rich and powerful same Felipe Garcia. But I think they are out of their minds if they go toe to toe with the Z's or try anything against Miguel Trevino el 40. The Z Organization is to damn big and powerful to fuck with it and they know that. Most likley they will get out of Nuevo Laredo.

  26. @5:01 They might be 200 more times richer but are they at least eaqually as powerful??Remember being rich doesnt necessarily mean your Powerful. For Example: Chapo has less bank than Carlos Slim, yet Chapo appears in the most powerful people in the world,im not sure if Carlos came out on the list.
