Agents Raid NM Gun Store in Border Smuggling Case

By: The Associated Press
Federal agents have raided a Deming gun store and arrested the owner, his wife and their two sons on a 30-count indictment accusing them of smuggling guns across the border with Mexico.

According to the federal indictment, the firearms sold by the defendants included 27 AK-47-type rifles, three AR-15 rifles, two .50 caliber rifles, and two 9 mm pistols - weapons favored by Mexican Cartels.

U.S. Attorney Ken Gonzales says Rick and Terri Reese and their sons, Ryin and Remington, were arrested in nearby Las Cruces where they were opening a new shop.

Authorities say after the arrests, state and federal officers executed search warrants on the New Deal Shooting Sports in Deming and the family home Tuesday.

It's not clear if the family has retained attorneys. The defendants are scheduled to make their initial appearances in the federal courthouse in Las Cruces on Thursday.

  4. just wondering ...how many of the people here blaming the USA for all of Mexico's ills ..are Americans trying to take responsibility for our own failings

and how many are Mexicans trying to escape responsibility for their own countrys failings

please identify yourself when blaming the USA, and lets all keep count..what do you say?

I thought I saw an ad once on Shotgun News from Centurion Arms selling a U.S manufactured AK-47 with 100% U.S. parts. It was rather expensive, had picatinny rails, looked sweet. Maybe it was another manufacturer, can't remember.

  14. This is nothing but smoke and mirrors to try and cover the fact that the ATF and the DoJ have sold more weapons to the Mexican cartels than any shop on the border. So in their bid to get more laws passed to restrict firearms in America they will arrest anyone and convict anyone to keep the smell of corruption off themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Geez, who gives a fuck, where the weapons were made. And for all you Mexicans, who like to point the finger at the U.S. for the criminal actions of Mexicans on Mexican soil..at least these douche bags were arrested and face numerous federal charges that will result in long prison terms. You can't say the same for the narco/sicarios, who are actually committing the crimes! I could care less, where the DTO's are buying their weapons because they have billions of dollars at their disposal!

  16. One of the good things of living in the USA is the right to bear arms. The violence in Mexico would be less if the citizens had this right. Why you may ask? Well, the criminals would think twice of trying to kidnap or extort someone that has a way of defending themselves. Why is the kidnapping rate in the USA low. Because we are armed.

  17. when mexico stops the flow of drugs coming north the guns will stop flowing south.I dont know where all the guns come from, but if the cartel can importe ship loads of chemicle to make meth, why cant they buy a few guns from china also?

  21. I don’t understand the blame game. Isn’t it the responsibility of each country to protect their border? If the U.S. is expecting Mexico to stop the drugs from crossing the border into the United States, then why must they build fences and pay billions of U.S. dollars to all the different agencies that are there for that same purpose. The same is true for Mexicans blaming the U.S. for weapons coming into Mexico.
Could it be that corruption is so rampant on each side of the border that neither country knows what corrective action to take, so they just blame each other?

    ReplyDelete
  22. If we in the US legalized all drugs tomorrow, will that fix Mexico? NO! If all guns from the US never found their way into Mexico, would it change a thing? NO! Mexico is fucked BECAUSE OF MEXICANS!!!! Greedy sons of bitches!! These criminals extort, kidnap, smuggle, rape, murder, and strike fear INTO MEXICANS IN MEXICO!!! UNTIL MEXICANS FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE, NOTHING WILL EVER CHANGE!!!

  23. I'm with Anonymous 1:16 am. Why isn't anything that happens in Mexico on CNN or FOX etc? We saw hours of coverage of the shooter in Norway and every night we see whats happening in the Middle East. Why almost nothing about our neighbor Mexico?
OMG as I'm typing this CNN is interviewing a guy about the school closings in Acapulco. Also talking about violence in tourist areas. Let's see if there is anything on during prime time tonight.

  24. They should have named tier business "the ATF". Then there would not have been any problem with shipping guns to Mexico.

  28. AK 47's ? LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE DOESN'T' KNOW SHIT ABOUT WEAPONS. THE LATEST VERSION IS THE AK 74. 50 CALIBER? YOU SHOULD TAKE A LOOK AT THE 20 MM VULCAN WE USED FOR SNIPING WHILE SERVING WITH THE 7TH REGIMENT FRENCH.COMMANDOS IN UGANDA AND RWANDA BACK IN 1975. MAKES THE 50 CAL LOOK LIKE A TOOTHPICK. ONE SHOT, ONE DEMOLITION. THANKS AAA-0

  29. Legalize guns! Mexico is the biggest consumer of american guns. Calderon has done NOTHING to curb gun comsuption since in office

    ReplyDelete
  30. You can legally buy a demilled AK 47 with no paper work as it is not a gun. Then buy a 80 percent flat reciever with no paper work. Then for about 90 dollars you can buy the folding jig. Then about 45 minute later you have an Ak with no paper. I have seen Picts of garages in California posted with hundreds of these AK's. The kits are getting a little scarce now but in the last 5 years were as cheap as $50 millions have been sold happy shopping.

  31. Alright, L B, Your question is not the same for both countries with the latter being condescending. This belies what started out as a good question.

Sincerely, a source of weapon smuggling via a particular nation was brought into question. No blame here. If it makes you feel any better, everybody is doing it. From the caveman on weapons have been sold. Weapons will do fine.

  35. America sends guns and money and Mexico sends a cornucopia of drugs. Finger pointing is a waste of time.

    The blame is equal.

    Simple supply and demand.

  36. This is what happens when you cross the ATF and the Obama administration. You get raided. These people didn't do this. They are friends of my family. I know them and my in-laws know them very well. NONE of this is true, although we may never actually know the truth as the big, bad government will put them away forever.

The ATF is the biggest gun runner in this country. For those who have your heads in the sand, look up operation Fast and Furious. The ATF has allowed cartels in Mexico to have guns smuggled over the border and in turn, it has gotten our BP agents and citizens killed, along with thousands of Mexicans. Wake up people! This government is not here to serve you. They want to control you and anyone else who disagrees with them.

the only problem with this is that the fearless leader Obama like to blame us gun owners for ATF's stupidity.

  45. How ironic that figuratively speaking Obama has turned out to be the best "Gun" salesman in US history.

The article never mentions if this gun store was one of many the ATF enlisted to encourage sales to known straw purchasers. Couldn't find anything on the web that provides more detail.

The ATF and DOJ now have the messy job of indicting those same retailers it gave consent to sell, which will inevitably result in legal battles.

On another note. Doesn't look like much will happen other than a couple ATF minions losing their jobs. Don't see how the ATF is even still a credible agency. Ruby Ridge, Waco and now Fast & Furious. Talk about a bumbling bunch of dingleberry's.

  46. Corupt gringos get popped and arrested and it turns into the gun nuts claiming Obama wants their guns.

  48. American redneck gun toting zealots - Mexican Narco cartels - no or lack of border security. Why is it falsely stated that ATF GAVE guns to ANYONE?! You freakin conspiracy theory wackjobs. ATF may have not done their job to stop it (isn't that what you gun loving zealots want? for NO ATF intervention in your precious gun access?). ATF didn't SELL the guns, they didn't HELP the gun get across the border (that would be Mexican Customs job to catch them - no?). I can't believe (American) people side with cultists like David Koresh (who thought he was Jesus) or others that engage in warfare with their own gov't. Sickos who hate their OWN government don't deserve to stay in America. Move to Somalia with no Gov't infrastructure and other gun toting loons. BTW - it was the FBI who ultimately acted in Waco at the end. Not that any of it matters to you NRA cultists. This is like topsy turvy world where you blame the GOOD guys. ATF did not kill, the drug cartels did. The coke users who create demand in the US did. The gun dealers that KNOWINGLY sell to criminals did. Quit using the ATF as scapegoats because they made a mistake in judgement, not a willful act of hate.

  49. Some SIM cards can store all of the vital specifics of the telephone and
card owner. Do you want a phone that has
special aps which will do various things. They then donot have to change their phone numbers again and again and it would also save a lot
    of time and money.
