Mexican Marines operating in Tamaulipas' coastal area south of Matamoros recovered a ranch which had been appropriated by members of the Gulf Cartel.
A Naval Ministry (Semar) press release reported that the incident occurred at Rancho El Zamora, located 43 kilometers southwest of the town of La Pesca,Tamaulipas.
Thanks to information received from an anonymous tip, the Marines were made aware that the ranch employees had been expelled from the grounds and the property taken over by heavily armed men.
The Marines stormed the ranch and arrested ten people who claimed to members of the Gulf Cartel. Also seized were one vehicle, 10 rifles, one handgun, one hand grenade, 55 ammunition magazines, and 2,437 rounds of ammunition.
In a separate incident, Marines arrested two Gulf cartel members in Valle Hermoso, Tamaulipas.
According to military sources the two men were stopped for suspicious behavior. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 2 rifles, 920 rounds of ammunition, four 40mm grenades, 47 magazines, $15,000 pesos, $500 dollars (U.S.), Gulf Cartel labeled clothing, communication equipment, and 10 pieces of gold jewelry.
