Federal Police detain "El Tocayo", CDG leader of Miguel Aleman

Mexican police said on Friday they captured a suspected drug kingpin from the Gulf drug cartel during what authorities believe was his own birthday party in a city along the U.S.-Mexican border.

Elements of the Federal Police captured Gilberto Barragan Balderas, aka "Heriberto" or "El Tocayo", the alleged head of the Gulf cartel in Miguel Aleman, Tamaulipas.

Barragan Balderas is on the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency(DEA) 10 ten most wanted list, with a reward of five million dollars to anyone who offered information leading to his capture.

At a press conference, Ramón Eduardo Pequeño, head of the Drug Enforcement Division of the Federal Police, reported that Barragán Balderas was captured in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, along with two other people.

Gilberto Barragan Balderas, 41, is a top lieutenant in the Gulf cartel and was reportedly the coordinator responsible for enforcement of Gulf Cartel “law” when Los Zetas were still the cartel’s enforcement arm.

In his position el Tocayo, among other duties, defended his "plaza" from the Zetas, ordered and oversaw executions, kidnappings, disappearances and tortures.

Also arrested were Romeo Eduardo Mejía, brother of Juan Reyes Mejía, R1, lieutenant and chief assassin of the Gulf Cartel, and Sergio Gutierrez Castanon.

U.S.A. still talking about it after all these years. All we see on TV is a bunch of Doughnut eaters rushing crack houses and taking out
    low level street distributors.
    Where are your Cartel Leaders?
living it up while paying off the local DEA

  3. Damn. Not good for Gulf operations in Tamaulipas. Not good for Gulf Cartel in general. This is the same Tocayo that left the bodies for Zeta in January, Tocayo y Aguilar.

And R1's brother? R1 should get out of the state for awhile.

  4. This is one of the puinks that has been terrorizing Miguel Aleman across from Roma Texas.
His head was valued at $5,000,000 and was on the DEA 10 most wanted. It would have been better if that fat head of his was delivered in an ice chest instead of attached to his worthless body.
He can send notes back and forth to Osiel Cardenas while locked up at A Super Max.
If all goes well this piece of crap will be tried under the Kingpin Laws and the US Goverment will teach him a dear lesson with a long, thick cold needle filled with posion.

  9. In the USA it was once said the only good indian was a dead Indian,Today in Mexico the only good NARCO is a dead one,Good work,God bless the Federal Police. The idea that either Zetas or CDG are GOOD for any reason is insane. This process of revamping Mexico into a REAL country will take time, there is a hundred years of unethicle criminal culture to REEDUCATE stay the course and MEXICOS people will reap a great benefit.

  10. My biggest worry is that this will empower the Zetas even further who look as though they are making a move to become the biggest and most influential gang of all.

They are taking over or have taken over Tamaulipas, Nuevo Leon, Coahuila, Zacatecas, San Luis Potosi, Durango, Hidalgo, Veracruz, Yucatan, Chiapas and Quintana Roo + all of northern Guatemala.

  20. When El Rakin with the Juarez Cartel got busted 18 months ago, it was a big blow. He was the ruthless enforcer for the Juarez Valley. This allowed for the outside cartel (Sinaloa) to get a foothold in the valley and they literally ran all the people living there out. The businesses, farmers, everyone. This guy may be scum but wow, what is it going to be like there with Zetas crawling all over. Those are even worse scum and what ever they see is theirs, land, money, cars, women, you name it, it's theirs. God have mercy on Tamaulipas. More imbalance, more blood. This is 2 big hits the CDG have taking today. I hate to see the federal police open the door for the Zetas like this. This state is fixing to be over run by a bunch of punks with third grade educations and IQs of about 78. This is not a victory.

Why is nothing of this nature happening in Sinaloa? The port where all the drugs enter Mexico. Why do all the local cartels in the north get hit constantly but the big one has free run.

I have been getting the feel that CDG had fallen from the good graces they had until 4 months ago. They were allied with Sinaloa and La Familia against the Zetas. Why is the federal police now turning on the CDG? Well, that is Mexico, nothing lasts very long.

The entire border from the gulf to Juarez will be on fire all summer now after the dismissal of 400 municipal police in Juarez. Calderon has created a war that will burn out of control all summer.

Calderon is a relentless war monger that cares nothing for northern Mexico and the poor of Mexico. He is not solving a problem, he is creating madness.

Where do you think the DEA & Federal Police get their info?? From guys on the ground. Who do you think CC is?? Probably some guy on the ground. What makes the DEAs information more correct than someone in the know? Absolutely nothing. Im not saying CC is right, it just doesnt seem like a big stretch to me that a local guy would have the scoop on who really calls the shots in the CDG, and that the DEA got some bunk info. Just sayin'
