One moment, one hour, one day.

On Thursday Borderleand Beat received a communication from a gentleman and resident of the border city of Piedras Negras, Coahuila. Since March 18th, Piedras Negras and surrounding municipalities have been the scene of brutal reprisals by Los Zetas against associates of a fellow Zeta and major regional drug trafficker who defected from the cartel.

Associates and families of these men, including spouses and children and even innocent bystanders, have been targeted and abducted and all are presumed to have been murdered. Their properties have been destroyed as covered previously on our Scorched Earth post.

http://www.borderlandbeat.com/2011/04/scorched-earth.html

The following are reflections on the current situation from this "caballero de Piedras Negras" who goes by the monikor "Aquel que viene por Ti" (the Avenger)

Un Momento, Una Hora, Un Dia.

It is important to note certain events that have occurred recently around the country in order to focus on and understand what is happening in Piedras Negras.

Recent events in San Fernando Tamaulipas, the shootings in Monterrey and exchanges in Saltillo and the capture of important plaza bosses in operations that have been conducted throughout the nation lead us to a singular conclusion: the moment of truth is arriving for Los Zetas.

Their terror tactics, their ambition to ruthlessly extend their territory, their betrayal of hard working leaders who delivered fat profits, their declaration of open war against the armed forces and their oppression of all people wherever their influence extends are leading to a perfect storm in which they will be consumed.

Everything is a matter of time, and the time for these murderers and criminals is coming. As proof we shall analyze what is occurring in this region.

One Moment

At a time when Alfonso “Poncho” Cuellar was the master of this drug corridor on both sides of the border, had everything well organized and efficiently executed his superior’s orders for the transfer of drugs into the U.S., through someone else’s ambitions he was asked to do things that would threaten his safety and that of his family and “business”.

In a moment of reflection he made a decision that would cause a huge landslide of revenge, to betray the hand that fed him.

The strongest rumor is that Cuellar jumped the Narco world and turned himself in to the DEA in Eagle Pass, Tx, with a guarantee of safety for his family and some friends. He is reported to be in San Antonio, facing a sentence for his crimes that he will serve in American prisons.

When word of this defection reached the highest levels of Los Zetas, the person chosen to deliver the wrath was not “el Lucky” but Omar Treviño, “el 42” (the ruthless younger brother of Miguel Angel Treviño “el 40” who occupies the second highest position in the Zeta hierarchy.)

On March 18th Omar Trevino, a bloodthirsty lunatic, began to kidnap innocent people and any person found who was associated with the Poncho Cuellar cell in an act of retaliation for the theft by Poncho of a payment for drug shipments in the millions of dollars.

Treviño’s unquenchable rage may have been the result of a coming of age fiesta for a child of Poncho Cuellar’s that he sponsored in June 2010, thus becoming the child’s padrino and a compadre of Poncho. A 2010 Chevrolet Camaro was Omar’s gift to the child. The betrayal was unforgivable.

Treviño’s rage was swift and immediate, burning Poncho’s properties such as luxury apartments that were right next to the Plaza de Toros in Piedras Negras and destroying a home one block from the Macro Plaza. Another home that belonged to several of his lieutenants located in the Colonia Lazaro Cardenas was also demolished. Several innocent neighbors were kidnapped nearby.

In one moment it all ended, lives and property were erased forever.

Not satisfied with the vengeance taken in Piedras Negras, “el 42” Treviño’s rage was unleashed in the 5 springs (cinco manantiales) region, continuing the acts of vandalism, arson and murder to try and recover in the most horrendous manner the millions Poncho Cuellar had taken, and will never be seen again.

So these are the actions of Treviño, a 36 year old idiot whose only achievement has been to shine an unwanted spotlight on this border region and drug trafficking corridor,

True narcos never seek to draw attention to their businesses, they operate in the shadows, inconspicuously. Rumors can be a mortal enemy.

These Zeta terrorists are just the opposite, sensationalist in nature.
Their time is coming and will soon end, hopefully with the same terror they enjoy unleashing.

One Hour.

I want to tell you about a demolished building owned by Victor Cruz, Poncho Cuellar’s right hand man. In that building was a restaurant known as “Los Sombreros”. The late Victor Cruz would be more accurate, as he along with his entire family and an innocent 14 year old neighbor were abducted and are most certainly dead.

The story of a man who has worked hard his entire life belongs to Mr. Julio Cesar Alanis Leal, a master of the regional “carne asada” dish who rose up from nothing to lead a successful life, with a heritage to bequeath to his family.

“Los Sombreros”, his restaurant, served the most delicious grilled meat and chicken in Piedras Negras. With the desire of doing something positive for his community and to provide employment for workers and financial security for his family Julio Alanis had leased the building from Victor Cruz and moved “Los Sombreros” there.

But then “el 42” and the Zetas entered his world. On April 12th, narcos stormed into his establishment and gave him 1 hour to get whatever property he could move out of the building before the Zeta wrecking crew began their work.

A life of hard work and dreams were extinguished in the hour. That is what the Zetas are doing, extinguishing any evidence of the existence of Poncho Cuellar and his cell.

One Day.

Heriberto Meza was a teamster with a freight business in Piedras Negras who made of career of exporting flagstone into the U.S. He was nicknamed "the Tables" for his surname: Meza.

However, Meza also utilized his fleet for the sinister purpose of smuggling drugs for Los Zetas and Poncho Cuellar. For a long time packages of drugs cleverly hidden in shipments of flagstone pulled by those familiar red “Herybetos Trucking” rigs entered the U.S. through Eagle Pass, joining the flow that spreads to every town of that mighty nation.

Maybe el Tables was unaware that the good times don’t last forever, that dealing with los Zetas is like inking a pact with Satan, only worse.

One day, April 16th to be exact, Heriberto Meza’s time came. The Zeta posse arrived and abducted Heriberto and his son, who have not been seen since and will more than likely never walk on this earth again.

The mission to erase all traces of Poncho Cuellar and anyone with links to his cell continues.

So that's how things are around here, in my once peaceful city.

Saludos from Piedritas

  2. Sooner or later the Mexicans will be forced to either ask for help from the US or the US will declare them terrorists and do it without permission.

  6. " he was askedto do things that would threaten his safety, family, and business? What could be more threatening than being a cartel member to begin with? When you play with fire you get burned, its crazy how the zetas hate people ripping them off but don't think twice about doing the same thing to innocent people

  7. As time goes on, more will defect from the Zeta's. The Los Zeta's cartel is in some trouble if you ask me but they brought it on themselves in many ways I feel.

  8. 11:54 It does not have to be really important or stealing a lot of money, it is about making an example and when you take that path you pretty much have to keep doing it. You know, kinda like US and negotiating with 'terrorists'

ps. lol at UNCLE SAM or is it DFL, capslock seems to be on for both.

  9. Where does Celso fit into the Zeta comand structure?

  10. Uncle Sam: Please !!! I know you mean well in offering to help Mexico with military intervention.
But, this will only make matters worse. The things you offer will spin out of control because the Mexican people have an ingrained dislike for "gringos" and will turn against Americans.

A better idea is to close the US/Mexico border "tight" like is done in other countries. In addition, illegal immigrants in the US must be deported in massive numbers in order to disrupt the drug smuggling and trafficking systems. These moves will disrupt the flow of drugs and narco-money.
Finally, America must get VERY tough on our domestic drug addicts and traffickers. We
must take the glamor out of smoking pot and doing other drugs like coke and meth.

All of these moves will help America while at the same time forcing Mexicans to look to themselves to elliminate their systemic ills in the form of corrupt government, police, courts, businesses, and the people themselves who profit from "dirty" acts and thinking.

  11. @ 9:45 here is a better idea, LEGALIZATION of pot.together with judicial reform to combat these cartels. you cream in your pants for the U.S. to get "hard" on addicts as long as its not you, your family or friends.

  13. The only true innocent are the children. Adults make decisions both men and women, unfortunately some LOVE money and are blinded by the consequences. And as said above its about respect and making an example for others to see. The US could begin helping by having rehab centers available by choice not till one commits a crime. If the US could control the addiction trafficking would decrease. Money talks! Agents are paid very well to look the other way so maybe US could figure something out to help their own first.

  14. I think Uncle Sam is too broke to invade what would most likely be an ass whooping for them.
instead mexico should label people like the ATF gun runners as terrorist sympathisers, and
go after them in internationl court.
