"Tony Tormenta's" death confirmed

Ezequiel Cardenas Guillen "Tony Tormenta"

The Naval Ministry has confirmed that Ezequiel Cárdenas Guillén, alias “Tony Tormenta”, one of the top capos of the Gulf cartel, shot and killed along with four of his henchmen in a battle in Matamoros, Tamaulipas.

Cardenas had escaped capture this past September when a raid by Marines on a safehouse in Matamoros where he was staying was repulsed by his bodyguards, "Los Escorpiones".

Jose Luis Vergara, a spokesman for the agency, declared that Cardena’s death has dealt a major blow to the structure and organization of the Gulf Cartel organization.

Ezequiel Cardenas was the brother of Osiel Cardenas Guillen, the former head of the Gulf cartel and founder of “Los Zetas”, who is now imprisoned in the United States.

Since August the Army and Marines have intensified the search for the leaders of the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas. Los Zetas are lead by Heriberto Lazcano Lazcano “El Verdugo” “El Lazca” and Miguel Angel Trevino Morales “Z-40” who is in charge of the Nuevo Laredo trafficking corridor. The Gulf Cartel is lead by Jorge Eduardo Costilla Sanchez “El Coss”.

Other details will be posted as they become available

  1. It blows my mind to think of how My friends and I went to Matamoros EVERY weekend as teenagers! We all felt so safe there! We knew everyone from federales to taco vendors to club owners..We were so naive and never realized how dangerous it really was...Being from the Valley it was just the fun thing to do for all of the underaged kids out there. YOWZA.

  4. This sucks, I would have rather seen La Lazca or Z40 go down, they were doing us a favor taking out los Zetas. Won't be long before El Coss goes as well. Wonder who's next in line to take over Tony's spot?

  5. Wow. Didn't expect this at all. Definitely, agree would have rather seen some top Zeta's go down, sounds like Tormenta was either a real brave leader, or a little foolish, for a big player dude had his neck out on the line a lot more. Didn't he barely escape capture earlier this year, banging down Zeta safehouses in Reynosa? What in the hell is he doing on the frontlines? I'd think after that close call, the guy would be laying low.

Why do you think El Coss will go down? This is surprising. I think M3 is probably next in line. I don't know as much about CDG as I do other groups. We need RiseMakavelli in here.

  8. Damn I dont know if this is good or not.... Zetas are a cancer, and this guy was the "chemo".. Now the Zetas are going to control Tamaulipas even better... The Army should go after those dogs ASAP...

  9. It's funny how the guy in the video jumps up and says "It's important that we clarify that Cardenas was never the leader of the CDG", when I remember time back when we started throwing that out in the air here in borderlandbeat, every other english and spanish blog would name Cardenas as the Cartel leader.

How long ago? Anyone lving on the border can relate to what you wrote. Even me, ol Buela a gal of the 60s, at least once a month trekking to TJ, Playa Rosarito, Ensenada (Baja). Our greatest fear was getting across being under 18, or being caught with my sis or friends under 18 in the trunk. We still laugh at the time Mx police pulled us over and never looked in the trunk, had they, there would be my sis and another friend. Rosarito was beautiful and natural then. Then it changed. WHen DOnald Trump and developers came to town so did the bad guys. Now my grandson is 18 college freshman, I show him all the gore that exists in hopes that he will heed my warnings and shrug off the invincible feeling that is inherent to youth.

I will not believe this until i see photos. or this could be a ploy to have those MUGROSOS try to come into the CDG strongholds and unleash HELL on them. I'm sure the CDG are as tired of killing all those Z'S and rather kill some top dogs.

  17. They all have to fall cdg, cds,z's,lfm. They all created this mess so they're responsible. Before the govt looked the other way but enough is enough. Next time a top dog falls they will take pictures and ruin the morale of whatever is left. Maybe then they will go into hiding like the takuaches that they really are. No more honor in the dope game just a bunch of thugs with no respect.

  19. I thought the CDG got rid of the zetas in Tamaulipas, do they own any other cities over ther? I was under the impression that the Zetas were loosing ground all around MX.Zetas are garbage and need to get wiped off the earth

  24. Metro 3 was not killed. I hear he wasnt even in the fire fight. He monitors and oversees the troops via radio. A major commandante like him wont be killed in battle as he doesnt fight side by side with the troops. He is now one of the main leaders along with El Coss. Its not another Cardenas Quillen that inherited the top stop. its metro 3 who has all the loyalty and respect of the cartel. R1 was supposedly promoted to M3's old job.
