Today, the U.S. Department of State is announcing a reward offer increase under the Narcotics Rewards Program (NRP) of up to $15 million for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of Mexican national Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, also known as “El Mencho.” Oseguera Cervantes is the co-founder and current leader of the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG), a violent drug cartel in Mexico responsible for trafficking fentanyl and other illicit drugs into the United States.
Since 2017, Oseguera Cervantes has been indicted several times in the United States for drug trafficking. Most recently, in April 2022, Oseguera was charged with engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise; conspiracy to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl for importation into the United States; and use of a firearm during and in relation to drug trafficking crimes. Oseguera is a fugitive.
Today’s reward increase is offered under the NRP, which supports law enforcement efforts to identify and bring to justice major violators of U.S. narcotics laws. Navy Secures Approximately 1.7 Tons Of Suspected Cocaine Hydrochloride Off Michoacan Coast

Mexico City, September 19, 2024. The Ministry of the Navy, through the Mexican Navy, reports that personnel attached to the Fourteenth Naval Zone, based in Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán, carried out the seizure of approximately 1.7 tons of suspected cocaine hydrochloride, in the adjacent coasts of the state of Michoacán.
This action was carried out during maritime surveillance patrols, when Mexican Navy personnel aboard an ocean patrol with the support of a Defender type vessel, found 74 packages floating in the sea, containing 1,480 brick-shaped packages inside, weighing approximately 1,745. 20 (one thousand seven hundred and forty-five point twenty) kilograms of the presumed illicit cargo, which was handed over to the competent authorities for the integration of the corresponding investigation folder.
These actions are part of the maritime, air and land surveillance operations carried out by the Ministry of the Navy through the Mexican Navy in Mexican marine areas, in order to guarantee and maintain the rule of law at sea.

8 Soldiers Injured After a Makeshift Mine Explodes in Apatzingán, Michoacan

On June 19th, 2023, eight Mexican Military personnel were injured by a makeshift mine in Apatzingán, Michoacan. The soldiers were conducting patrols in La Bateas community when their vehicle entered a clandestine minefield and a buried mine detonated; they were later transported to the medical facilities of the 43rd Military Zone where four were labeled as “out of danger,” but, due to the severe extent of their injuries, three soldiers were transported by helicopter to a military hospital in Irapuato, Guanajuato.

Guardia Nacional Seizes Illegally Chopped Wood In Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary, Michoacán

The Guardia Nacional located and seized about 100 illegally chopped logs in the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve, State of Michoacán, according to a press release on August 4. Illegal logging is becoming a major criminal market in Mexico, accounting for 1/3 of wood sales in the nation according to authorities.
They discovered the site when patrolling in the town of Zitácuaro, Michoacán.
The seizure was made by the National Guard in joint effort with the Michoacán State Police, the Environmental Protection Battalion of the National Guard, and the Federal Environmental Prosecutor (PROFEPA by its initials in Spanish).
Upon locating the site, security forces established a perimeter and looked for the loggers, but were unable to find them.
PROFEPA is holding the logs and will undertake the investigation.

La Tuta captured in a house in Morelia Michoacan
Servando Gomez Martinez alias " La Tuta" presumed leader of the Knights Templar Cartel, and one of the criminals who's capture was deemed a primary objective of the Federal Government, was captured by elements of the Federal Police, confirmed authorities of the corporation.
According to preliminary information, "La Tuta", was detained in a house in Morelia, Michoacan without any shots being fired. ( otis: so much for the I won't be taken alive).
The PGR offered a reward of 30 million pesos for information leading to his detention.
This Wednesday past they reported a series of operations in the Limitrofe zone of the Municipality of
Arteaga, from where he originated, and Tumbiscatio, Michoacan, where colleagues of La Tuta were captured as a result of the capos arrest.
In the next few hours, there will be a press conference on the details of his detention.
