Cosalá, Sinaloa. Members of the Mexican Navy rescued eight people who were being held captive in the municipality of Cosalá, three of whom were minors.

The Mexican Government's Security Cabinet announced, through a consolidated report of events recorded on Thursday, July 17, various actions being implemented in the state of Sinaloa. These actions are part of the National Security Strategy, which includes addressing the causes by strengthening intelligence and investigative work, and maintaining coordination with local authorities to achieve better results.
The joint statement revealed that naval personnel, while conducting preventive patrols in the El Alto municipality of Cosalá, managed to rescue eight people who were being held captive. It was not specified whether the rescue took place in a neighborhood or community.

It was noted that at the time of their release, three minors were among them, and none of them suffered serious injuries.

The eight people were offered protection by Navy personnel, as well as assistance in filing the corresponding complaint, so that the investigating authorities could follow up promptly.

It should be noted that authorities did not disclose whether these individuals reside in the municipality of Cosalá or were from another state.

The afternoon of this Sunday, July 6, 2025, reports started to swirl about a raid by Mexican military special forces that included a helicopter with a minigun machine gun and an aircraft TEXAN flying around in Cosala. There was also reported movement of Secretariat Navy personnel to capture a criminal figure on the ground.

EFRAIN TREJO RETAMOZA

Hours later, after the raid was concluded, it was confirmed that a powerful criminal figure named Efrain Trejo Retamoza "R1" had evaded capture. R1 and his family have long-controlled drug laboratories in the Cosala mountain areas, which have the presence of both Los Chapos and Los Mayos criminal groups. The sister of Mr. Efrain had a child with the famous drug lord Joaquin Guzmán Loera, and many times, JGL used Cosala as a hideout before his final capture in Los Mochis in 2016. Last year, with the start of the conflict between Los Chapos vs Los Mayos, Mr. Efrain R1 decided to join the Los Mayos/ MF criminal group.

JULY 4, 2025

On July 3, 2025, videos of clashes that occured the night prior were published of a heavy armed confrontation of armed cells belonging to the Los Renes 00, an armed wing of Los Chapitos, against La Mayiza/ MF.

Allegedly, most of the videos published were recorded by Los Renes 00 members, so that is an indication that highly likely this criminal group came out victorious in this specific confrontation that occurred on Cosala roads about 10-15 kilometers from Espinal, Sinaloa.

Heavy clashes with armored vehicles were reported on the night of April 28, 2025, in Potrerillos Del Norote, Elota, Sinaloa, between La Mayiza/MF against the La Chapiza/Los Chapitos. Both criminal groups have continued to clash for almost eight months. In a previous post, La Mayiza announced their arrival in Potrerillos Del Norote by hanging a La Chapiza member with a rope in the municipal head.

In the subsequent videos, a ferocious firefight can be heard between criminal groups and a hitman driving in an armored truck records himself attacking a rival's pickup truck. Unsure if the individual recording is an MF or La Chapiza member, although sources claim it is an MF member.
