A violent incident shocked residents of the municipality of Colima, as armed individuals broke into a bakery and killed six people, while wounding another. State authorities are conducting operations to find the killers.

The incident occurred before dawn inside the El Pichón bread-making business, located on Francisco Javier Mina, in the Placetas neighborhood of Colima.

A group of armed individuals arrived at the scene, attacked seven people inside, and then left. After hearing gunshots, neighbors notified authorities through emergency numbers.
State Preventive Police officers responded to the establishment as first responders and found the seven people with gunshot wounds. Paramedics later confirmed that five men and one woman had died.

One woman was injured and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital.
In response to the multiple homicides, the Colima government and the State Attorney General's Office issued a statement confirming the death toll from the attack.

"This Tuesday morning, armed individuals entered a commercial establishment in the aforementioned location in the municipality of Colima and fired firearms, leaving six people dead and one injured, who was taken for medical attention."

They also indicated that the State Coordination Board for the Construction of Peace and Security in Colima is working in a coordinated manner to locate those responsible for the armed attack.

In addition, members of the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), the armed forces, and the Colima Coordination, Control, Command, Communication, Computing, and Intelligence Center (C5i) are supporting the investigation by following up on the investigation.

In this regard, the El Pichón bakery, which has been in operation since 1990, issued a statement regretting the events and announcing that they would not be able to deliver orders as they normally do to homes and businesses.

"We have been victims of insecurity in our family business. There are no words to express this event. We thank our clients and friends for their concern and displays of affection, and we ask for their humanity and empathy in the face of this terrible situation."

So far, no arrests have been made for this multiple homicide.

Three arrested transporting drugs on a plane in Colima
Mexican authorities reported this Friday the arrest in the western state of Colima of three people transporting 427 kilos of cocaine on a clandestine aircraft detected 200 kilometers south of San Salvador, El Salvador.

In a joint statement, the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) stated that in an intelligence and investigation operation, members of this institution, the Secretariat of National Defense (Defense), the National Guard (GN), the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), the Attorney General's Office (FGR), and the National Center for Surveillance and Protection of Airspace (CENAVI) located the aircraft carrying drugs and arrested the three people.

According to the information, the arrest resulted from surveillance efforts by CENAVI, which detected the aircraft's "tracking" 200 kilometers south of San Salvador, the capital of the Salvadoran territory, heading toward Mexico.

The SSPC detailed that the tracking "did not comply with current aeronautical regulations when entering our space, so an alert was issued."

“Six airplanes and a helicopter were immediately ordered to take off from two aerial platforms to intercept the clandestine aircraft. Security personnel were also deployed in Colima, in areas likely to land,” the statement said.

The SSPC also reported that “officers located the aircraft, which landed on a clandestine airstrip in the town of Tecomán, Colima,” the site of the three arrests, and “seized 11 packages containing 427 kilos of cocaine.”

They added that the seizure “has a financial impact on organized crime of more than $95 million pesos (approximately $5 million USD).”

ARNOLDO DELGADILLO: Good afternoon. Hey, Fernando, how are you? Good afternoon. It's a pleasure to greet you and our entire audience this Sunday afternoon. Indeed, you already said it. The State Government's Public Security Secretariat confirmed that in a joint operation, the State Police and the Navy managed to arrest these individuals you already mentioned.

In the community of Cerro de Ortega in the municipality of Tecomán, on the border with Michoacán. Members of both agencies were attacked by this group of armed civilians. In response, three of the attackers were killed. We also said it was the arrest of 15 individuals allegedly linked to the Jalisco Nueva Generación cartel, who were also detained. Weapons and tactical equipment. Something interesting is that, as of this moment, there is a blockade near Cerro de Ortega on Federal Highway Mexico 200, which runs from Colima to Michoacán. This is why there is still no access between these two states. I would like to inform you that the protest is being attributed to citizens demanding the departure of security authorities, but there is no further information on this matter. For now, the blow against crime is important. After this confrontation on the border between Colima and Michoacán, the information is important. Fernando, waiting for updates. Excellent afternoon, anyway.

The following interrogation video is of a man named Jesus Ramon Felix Nuñez who claims to be the cousin of Rafael Guadalupe Felix Nuñez, "Changuito Antrax" a high-ranking member and lieutenant of Ismael Zambada Sicairos, "Mayito Flaco" leader of the Mayo Zambada faction of the Sinaloa Cartel.

The United States Department Of Treasury says the following about Changuito Antrax, Rafael Guadalupe Felix Nuñez (Felix Nuñez), who began his criminal career working as a hitman for the Sinaloa Cartel. In 2008, following the separation of the Sinaloa Cartel and the Beltran Leyva organization, a new Sinaloa Cartel armed wing was formed by now-deceased Rodrigo Arechiga Gamboa (“Chino Antrax”) that would go on to be called “Los Antrax.” Among its original members was Felix Nuñez, who then became known as “El Changuito Antrax.” Following Rodrigo Arechiga Gamboa’s arrest in December 2013, Felix Nuñez took on more responsibility in the organization, and on July 25, 2014, Felix Nuñez was indicted on drug trafficking charges in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California. He was arrested by Mexican authorities in November 2014 and in 2017 escaped from a prison in Culiacan, Sinaloa with several other Sinaloa Cartel members. To date, Felix Nuñez remains a fugitive.

Since his escape from prison, Felix Nuñez has evolved into a powerful and violent Sinaloa Cartel leader in the city of Manzanillo, Colima, Mexico. The city of Manzanillo is home to a large port that shares its name and serves as a gateway for illicit drugs. The port of Manzanillo receives shipments from all over the globe, including cocaine from Colombia and illicit precursor chemicals — including those used to synthesize fentanyl — from Asia. In addition to being a North American entry point, the port of Manzanillo is also a strategic transport hub for drugs ultimately destined for the United States."

"El Chaparrito" CJNG Operator Close to 'Mencho' Reapprehended In Secretive Raids In Zapopan, Guadalajara, And Merida, Yucatan.

AUGUST 21, 2024

Federal authorities arrested for the second time in Zapopan, Jalisco, Miguel Aldrín Jarquín, alias “El Chaparrito,” one of the men closest to Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, El Mencho, leader of the Jalisco Cartel - New Generation, and alleged regional leader of the organization in Colima, Jalisco, Yucatán and Quintana Roo.

According to the information, Aldrín Jarquín was captured during an operation carried out jointly by members of the Secretariat of the Navy-Mexico Navy (Semar) and the Special Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO), at the intersection of Marina Mazatlán and Acueducto avenues.

It was also announced that two of his men were captured while simultaneous searches were being carried out in the cities of Mérida, Yucatán and Guadalajara and Zapopan, Jalisco, according to federal authorities.

The sources consulted said that the intelligence work to locate and arrest El Chaparrito took several months of follow-up so that the actions against him could be carried out without generating acts of violence that put the general population at risk.

Aldrín had been arrested in 2022, and according to federal authorities, he was serving El Mencho in the “corruption of authorities, illicit trafficking of weapons for the exclusive use of the armed forces and chemical precursors, as well as money laundering through high-end car sales lots and real estate companies”.

Jarquín Jarquín managed to evade justice in April 2022 less than a month after his arrest, after a judge released him to continue his judicial process without precautionary measures following his arrest in Colima, where more than 20 million pesos and weapons for the exclusive use of the armed forces were seized.

According to La Jornada, intelligence sources indicate that El Chaparrito held a command position in the CJNG, similar to that held by those considered possible successors to El Mencho, such as Gonzalo Mendoza Gaytan, El Sapo; Judias Flores Silva, El Jardinero; Anarbol Cardenas Cisneros, El Nabo; and Juan Carlos Valencia Gonzalez, El 03.

La Tuta Is Taking Refuge In The State Of Colima: Semeí Verdía

“We know that the people of Colima are suffering like the people of Michoacán suffered, because the Templarios, who once extorted in Michoacán, are now extorting those in Colima”.

Translated by Valor for Borderland Beat

Morelia, Michoacán—There is a strong possibility that Servando Gómez Martínez, “La Tuta”, is in the state of Colima, since most of the Caballeros Templarios fled to that place, Commander of the Community Police of Santa María Ostula and General Coordinator of the Autodefensas on the coast of Michoacán, Semeí Verdía, stated.

“There is a 70% chance that he is there, we have information that he isn’t in Michoacán anymore and he has people over there that protect them”, the autodefensa said in an interview with Grillonautas.

He denounced that the autodefensas that operate in that region don’t have the support of the federal government or the Commission for Security and Integral Development for the State of Michoacán which Alfredo Castillo Cervantes leads.

The autodefensa stated that violence continues in Michoacán, despite the speech that says that everything is peaceful and that security has been restored in the state of Michoacán.

Mexican government reduces violence by not reporting it

Unreported until last Saturday is the unwritten agreement between the newly elected Mexican federal government and the states that part of President Enrique Pena Nieto's new security strategy will be to reduce the number of reports on violent incidents, according to Mexican press accounts.

According to a news account posted Saturday on the website of Diario de Colima news daily, agreements have been made between the federal government and some state attorneys general that violent incidents will only be reported when "necessary".

Colima governor Mario Anguiano Moreno

Colima governor Mario Anguiano Moreno told the press that studies conducted by the federal government showed that reporting on violence in Mexico's drug war had a "prejudicial effect" on the impact of such events.

According to the translation, Governor Anguiano Moreno said: "I was shown studies showing that at the federal level, to the extent that we as a government are putting the issue of security, we report every time you stop a criminal, rather than contributing to the achievement tranquility, were on the contrary encouraging unrest."

Governor Anguiano Moreno goes on:  "There was an agreement (between the Federation and the states) which will only be reporting of detainees when strictly necessary," he added.

It is unclear how the agreements are affected by federal transparency laws.

To abide by the new federal guidelines Colima Governor Anguiano Moreno will suspend weekly meetings of the Gabinete de Seguridad del Estado, and will report on detentions "only when necessary".

The governor added that while security is important and reports of detentions and deaths will still will be reported, the information may not be as readily available.

Five days ago in a Washington Post opinion piece, director of Human Rights Watch's Americas division,  José Miguel Vivanco, amidst the hysterical language of the human right industry revealed that part of President Pena's security strategy included changing the subject to the economy and away from security matters.

President Pena's government functions under transparency rules passed in the previous 12 years under Partido Accion National (PAN) government, and new rules imposed since the start of his administration.

When the proposed reorganization of the cabinet level Secretaria de Seguridad Publica, moving the agency to under the Secretaria de Gobierno (SEGOB), or interior ministry as a sub agency was put into effect, national legislators put SEGOB on a short leash requiring monthly reports on its activities.

Its first report, however, was a summary detailing detentions and drugs and contraband seized during the previous month, including summaries by the Mexican Army and Navy.  Its second report is likely to like the first and so on.

And while the federal government is under those transparency rules, it does rely on states for its data, and so President Pena's security strategy may be aiming at getting around those rules by ordering state attorneys general to slow walk or obscure information on crimes, or in the case of states which do not have as constrictive transparency laws, not releasing any information at all.

What the new focus on information could do is to create a situation where states that do have transparency laws will be reporting crime and appear to have a crime problem, while those that do not will appear to have less crime.

It is worth noting that this writer has noticed that reported detentions and shootings have declined since the start of President Pena's administration.
