"It isn't their fault that they are the children of El Chapo": Former Wife

Griselda Lopez Perez the former wife of Joaquin Guzman Loera, the premier leader of the Sinaloa drug trafficking Cartel,   denied the accusations and declare that her son does not have links with the drug trafficking.  In an interview with Noroeste, Lopez said that it is true that her son was " conceived by Mr Guzman and  me (Ovidio) but I have never let my children do what their father does.”

“Chapo’s” former wife, also mother of the deceased Edgar Guzman Lopez, killed in a shootout in May of 2008, assured that Ovidio is a young man of 22 years old that tries to live a life outside the margin of the activities of “El Chapo” Guzman.

“It is not their fault they are the  children of Joaquin Guzman”, she stated.

During the interview, she also stated that she hasn’t seen the gangster for  long time, and the same of  her children, and she said that she was tired that her children are being accused. The society that see those accusations, think that they are working with that (drug trafficking); I already lost a son because of the wars that have been provoked”.

It was last May, when two sons of Joaquin Guzman Loera, among them Ovidio Guzman Lopez, were accused by the US Office of Foreign Assets Treasury as members of the Sinaloa Cartel; they were  placed on the Kingpin ACT list.

According to a communication given by the embassy of the United States, Ivan Archivaldo Guzman Salazar and Ovidio Guzman Lopez participates in a drug trafficking operation led by their father.

Last June, the first wife and one of the sons of the gangster of the Sinaloa Cartel, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Loera, were included  by the United States, in a drug trafficking list, which now are subject to actions of confiscation and freezing of properties.

The accusation against Maria Alejandrina Salazar Hernandez and her son Jesus Alfredo Guzman Salazar was the sixth made by the American Department of Treasure against members and operators of the Sinaloa Cartel.

In 2001 and 2009, “El Chapo” Guzman was designated by the U.S government as a “significant” foreign trafficker, and nowadays is offering a reward of five million dollars for information leading to his capture.

Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman has appeared on the Forbes list of the richest men in the world in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012, with a fortune of one thousand million dollars.

Guzman Loera married Alejandrina Maria Salazar Hernandez, in 1977, in a discrete ceremony in the town of Jesus Maria, Sinaloa. He had three kids with her: Cesar, Ivan Archivaldo and Jesus Alfredo.

In the middle of the 80’s, Guzman married again to Griselda Lopez Perez and had four children: Edgar, Joaquin, Ovidio and Griselda Guadalupe. Lopez Perez, whom is also known as Karla Perez Rojo, was arrested on 2010 and later was released “with the reservations of the law”, in Culiacan Sinaloa.

Note:  The interview of Chapo's 2nd wife was given to Noreste.   Interesting was that there was no mention in the first publication of the interview of  the new  previously unknown daughter of El Chapo, Alejandrina.  This was the "daughter" arrested with false documents in the US POE. 

Subsequent publications of the same article included a mention of the person but never did Griselda identify her as the sister of her children or even a connection.  What she is attributed of saying is the following:

Regarding his daughter Grisel, (“Gris”)  Griselda Lopez said  the use of her photo in the newspapers, which are being displayed instead of the image of Giselle Guzman Salazar placed her daughter in danger.

"I have nothing against the other girl she insisted,  but they mistakenly involving my daughter."

She said his daughter, who is studying at the Technological Institute of Monterrey outside Sinaloa and maintains excellence in grades, has fallen into a state of depression because of the misinformation released by the federal government and irresponsibly spread.

"It affects me, I worry for my children, that a madman will harm my children” (by publicizing locations) she said.

The above retraction is from RioDoce.  Supporters of Alejandrina being the daughter of Chapo have used this as "proof", however it is clear there is no such acknowledgement, and in fact other publications including Noreste did not frame the the reported reference as a direct quote.  No confirmation has been released from any Agency, in the US or Mexico.  SEIDO (PGR) announced in a live interview on Thursday that the US has not confirmed the identity of the arrested person.  Most likely if she is Chapo's daughter that will be announced after her bail hearing of next week in San Diego.
