Cartel Santa Rosa De Lima (CSRL) sends a gruesome message to thieves operating in Guanajuato. In recent weeks, a gang of young thieves was allegedly responsible for several robberies of pharmacies and convenience stores. The CSRL hitmen captured one of the thieves involved in the string of robberies and eliminated the other in a drive-by shooting, according to the video shared by this criminal group.

Between May 23 and 24, the bodies were located in a house; five have already been identified.
This discovery corresponds to the bodies of 11 men, two women, and four corpses whose sexes are yet to be determined. In an official report, the FGE emphasized that 16 of the discoveries were made on May 23 during the search that began in the early hours of that day.
They used specialized equipment, including Geo Radar and K9 Binomio, with which they identified the bodies. However, the work did not end there, because the next day they began another search and found the last body, which was already in a state of partial skeletonization.

Two days after the discovery and seizure of the property, five people have already been identified and are in the process of being returned to their families for a proper burial.
The justice institution reiterated that the investigation is continuing to clarify this incident and return all missing persons to their families.
Four were killed after an armed group attacked civilians at a packed soccer field yesterday evening in Cárdenas, Guanajuato. The event is similar to another attack which left eight dead last month in San José de Mendoza, a town just eight kilometers away.
Norma Idalia “N,” alias “La Italiana,” the alleged operator of Karem Lizbeth, alias “La Señora,” sister of José Antonio Yépez Ortiz “El Marro” and current leader of the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel in Guanajuato, was arrested.
Norma was captured after members of the National Guard and the Army patrolled near the community of Jaralillo, in the municipality of Santa Cruz de Juventino Rosas, and detected a clandestine hydrocarbon storage point.
Men guarding the site, upon noticing the presence of the military, attacked them with firearms. After the confrontation, the authorities managed to arrest six criminals.
Twelve were killed in five separate events across Salamanca, Guanajuato last night, in what appears to be a Cartel Santa Rosa de Lima operation against their rivals. Narco banners left at some of the crime scenes explained that the killings were for supporting the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación.

Two were killed and one was injured after an armed attack against a tire repair shop (vulcanizadora) in El Tulillo de Abajo, a neighborhood of San José Iturbide, Guanajuato, reported local journalist Miguel Ángel Mejía H. Tire repair shops in Guanajuato are attacked frequently, as they are sometimes used as fronts for criminal activity.
This morning in Celaya, Guanajauto, hitmen of the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) attacked and burned a hospital mentioned in leaked army documents as being affiliated with rival criminal group the Cártel Santa Rosa de Lima (CSRL).
In four events on the same night, chopped up bodies and severed heads in coolers were left around the city of Irapuato, Guanajuato. The grisly scenes were accompanied by different copies of the same narco message, allegedly signed by the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG).
Following a brutal massacre at a bar which left 12 dead in Irapuato, Guanajuato, professionally printed narco banners blaming the attack on rivals were left around the city, signed by the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG). These messages are notable both for their content, and what they reveal about CJNG's messaging strategy.
TheSecretary of Security of Irapuato, Luis Ricardo Benavides Hernández stated in an interview that seven banners were found, and are being investigated by state authorities, according to narco news blog Valor Por Tamaulipas.
The banners reference a bar attack which occurred on October 15 in the December 12th neighborhood of Irapuato, Guanajuato, when armed gunmen opened fire on employees and customers, killing 12 and injuring three more before fleeing.
Local security expert David Saucedo told Borderland Beat that in this region, bars, restaurants, and other similar businesses are often targeted by criminal groups for selling or allowing the sale of drugs supplied by a rival organization. AM Noticias reported that the state government confirmed Saucedo's theory yesterday in a statement which said that they are investigating the attack as related to the sale of drugs, revealing that several of those killed had criminal records. Additionally, AM Noticias reported that locals claim the bar was a well-known drug sale spot.

Both the method of use and the style of the narco banners are consistent with CJNG messaging in the region, specifically that of the Grupo Elite cell, which has spearheaded CJNG's advance in the state of Guanajuato.
The format of this narco banner is a template frequently used by CJNG propaganda over the last three years. Starting out as a rough banner design, it has been tweaked and edited with each publication until its current state, which has the face of CJNG leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes "El Mencho" on the right, and a rooster to the left, a common symbol associated with Mencho and CJNG.
Now, just portions of the text are updated before being posted. Borderland Beat journalist Hearst created the helpful graphic below showing the process.
Releasing a message which blames rivals for violent attacks has become a habit for the CJNG in Guanajuato. A nearly identical banner was released in late September, after the Cartel Santa de Lima attacked a bar in Tarimaro, Guanajuato, killing 10, as reported by Borderland Beat.
In the hyperviolent Guanajuato battlefield, both sides of the conflict have committed brutal acts against each other, but unlike the CSRL, the CJNG invest significant effort in controlling the narrative, often portraying themselves as less violent and less predatory on civilians than the CSRL. In 2021, the CJNG released 57 narco messages compared to the CSRL's 26, revealed an analysis of Borderland Beat's narco message database from 2021.
In addition to the use of professionally printed plastic banners, which are larger, more legible, and look more official, CJNG's paper messages communicate their threats well. They typically contained more structure, appeared more organized compared to those of CSRL, and made use of stock propaganda phrases.
The CJNG Grupo Elite cell's main stock phrase "Remember that all of Guanajuato has an owner" appears in the vast majority of their messaging. It has become a key part of their propaganda, comparable to McDonald's "I'm Lovin It" slogan. In 2021, of the 57 narco messages signed by CJNG in Guanajuato, 45 (79%) had this same phrase within them.
Armed gunmen stormed into a bar, killing twelve employees and customers around 8 p.m. this afternoon in the December 12th neighborhood of Irapuato, Guanajuato. Local news is reporting that six women and six men were killed as well as three others injured. Photos of the event show the carnage inside, where the gunmen opened fire on dozens of partiers.
Local security expert David Saucedo told Borderland Beat that bars, restaurants, and other similar businesses are often targeted by criminal groups for selling or allowing the sale of drugs supplied by a rival organization.
The gunmen did not leave a message or state their allegiance, which sometimes happens when businesses are attacked. According to El Sol de Mexico, the armed attackers fled the scene in two vehicles after the attack.
The attack happened at the Bar Texana, on 773 Calle Jamaica. Some news sources have spelled this as 'Tejana', and La Silla Rota reported that the bar was also known as "El Pantano". There have been many attacks on businesses and people on Calle Jamaica over the last few years.
No criminal groups have so far claimed the attack.

Identical narco message banners signed by the Sinaloa Cartel (Cártel de Sinaloa, CDS) in which they allegedly announced their intention to end the Cártel Santa Rosa de Lima (CSRL) have appeared within at least nine municipalities in the state of Guanajuato.
Already on social media, there are allegations of the banners being fake while others allege they are genuine. Regardless of the authenticity, here is what is what is being reported about these banners.
The Banners
According to Guanajuato’s leading security analyst, David Saucedo, the banners have been discovered in nine municipalities within the state so far.
One man was killed by gunfire inside a vulcanizadora in Celaya, Guanajuato on the afternoon of Saturday September 10, according to local news site Periódico Correo.
The events occurred at a vulcanizadora, a tire repair shop on Avenida El Sauz in the Imperial neighborhood.
Neighbors called police after hearing gunshots, but when security forces and paramedics arrived, the victim, an unidentified man was dead.
Dozens of similar attacks have occurred at vulcanizadoras in Guanajuato over the last three years. They are related to the fight between the CJNG and CSRL, local security expert David Saucedo told Borderland Beat.
This morning, several large, professionally printed narco messages signed by the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) appeared on bridges in Celaya, Guanajuato. The messages attempt to absolve themselves of crimes, accuse rivals of two mass shootings, and again allege corruption within the local investigative (AIC) police force.
The banners were left on at least five different bridges around the city, on 2 De Abril, De Gaspar De Almanza, Avenida Tecnologico, Enecuilco, and on De La Pepsi.
The same banner design, with different text, has been used by CJNG Grupo Elite several times before in the state.
The message accuses rivals of being behind two mass shootings this year in Celaya, the August 6 mass shooting at Bar Tres Amigos, which left 10 dead, and the May 23 shooting at Hotel and Bar Gala, which left 11 dead, as reported by Borderland Beat. A narco message signed by CSRL found at the scene of the May 23 attack blamed the victims for supporting CJNG.
The message also accuses local investigative police of colluding with rivals the CSRL, and once again alleges that they operate without search warrants, a complaint the CJNG made before at the July 28 IED attack in Irapuato, as reported by Borderland Beat.
These messages were displayed just four days after CJNG paralyzed the state with coordinated attacks across 9 cities in effort to disrupt a law enforcement operation against their leaders, an action that generated nationwide outcry and statewide panic.

This banner design, with a military green camo background, with the face of 'Mencho', and two roosters fighting has been used by CJNG Grupo Elite several times with the text altered over last two years in Guanajuato. This is one more evidence of CJNG's high level propaganda production capabilities relative to their competition.

There were over 100 narco messages found in Guanajuato in 2021. The CJNG left almost 60, more than any other group in the state, a reflection of their obsession with the region and the intense propaganda campaign they run.
Celaya was the city in Guanajuato with most narco messages in 2021, with 51, according to the Borderland Beat narco message database of 2021.
Employing an increasingly common strategy, the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) burned dozens of businesses and vehicles in the states of Jalisco and Guanajuato last night in an effort to pressure the government into releasing a captured leader.
Beginning around 8 p.m. last night, CJNG members hijacked and burned vehicles in northern Zapopan, near Guadalajara, Jalisco. While authorities and locals were reeling from the chaos, the same began happening in nine cities in the state of Guanajuato, including Leon, Salamanca, Irapuato, Celaya, Silao, Guanajuato City, San Miguel de Allende, Dolores Hidalgo, and San Francisco del Rincon..
Cities affected: Leon, Salamanca, Irapuato, Celaya, Silao, Guanajuato City, San Miguel de Allende, Dolores Hidalgo, and San Francisco del Rincon.
While criminals in Zapopan targeted primarily vehicles and buses to create narco blockades, the fires in Guanajuato were mostly attacks against businesses, including OXXO corner stores, gas stations, and pharmacies. Videos show armed criminals storming businesses, clearing them of civilians with warning shots, and burning the buildings with incendiary grenades or accelerant.
It is possible that the chaos was created in Zapopan to slow police response along roadways, but in Guanajuato the fires were used to create terror and lash out against the government. There is no official count of how many businesses were destroyed, but it is certainly in the dozens.
Femsa, the parent company of OXXO, reported that 25 of their stores were partially or completely destroyed.
Local authorities have closed down schools for the day, in fear that the violence may continue.
Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación Response
Last night, David Saucedo, a local security expert, told Borderland Beat that the CJNG is behind these attacks in response to the capture of a high ranking leader earlier in the day. At this time it is not confirmed who the captured leader is, but rumors have spread that is is 'RR', a member of 'El Mencho's' inner circle, and the CJNG plaza boss for Michoacán, Jalisco, and Guanajuato.
The CJNG has dominant presence in all of the regions affected, but Irapuato, the seat of CJNG Grupo Elite in Guanajuato, was hit hardest.
Furthermore, in videos of the events filmed by gunmen, logos of 'CJNG' can be seen on the vests of those burning businesses. Interestingly, these vests match those seized in a raid in Aldama earlier that day, where explosives were also found.
In one video, armed criminals order civilians out of an OXXO, while warning shots and shouting their allegiance to 'Don Mencho', the leader of the CJNG.
This morning, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced in his morning conference that the violence resulted from the capture of criminal leaders. He said that two criminal groups were meeting, when the army confronted them, causing the shootout.
In a later press conference, Enrique Alfaro, the governor of Jalisco, stated that the operation resulted in the capture of five criminals, nine vehicles, 31 rifles, 4 machine guns, and various explosives. He did not clarify who the captured are.
Paralyzing a city through narco blockades, gunfire, and burning of buildings is becoming a common strategy employed by criminal groups in response to the capture of high profile members. Other similar notable events include the 2019 Culiacan capture and subsequent release of Ovidio Guzman, the son of 'El Chapo', or the shootouts in Nuevo Laredo this year when 'El Huevo' of the Cartel Noroeste was captured.
These ‘Culiacanazo’ style attacks are intended to cause enough terror and chaos to pressure the government into submission. While they have occured for over a decade, they have been employed with increasing frequency since their successful use by the Sinaloa Cartel in 2019.
