Lights Out With A Distracted Mayiza Supporter

“Sol Prendido” for Borderland Beat

It appears that César Gastélum, an alleged Mayiza supporter, wasn’t as concerned about his safety as he should’ve been during the recording of a live transmission. One of the men who accompanies him expresses his concern about the two males who suddenly drove by them on a motorcycle.

His intuition tells him that something is off about the encounter. Gastélum doesn’t miss a beat in trying to downplay the significance of what just happened. Going forward with the interview is more important.

Unbeknownst to them, the men on the bike are assassins from the Chapiza mob. And that first interaction was nothing more than a confirmation that had to be made between the duo before firing the weapon.

  1. Unprofessional headlines, but has anyone noticed any story coming out of Mexico seems to be making the news alot more in usa. Ive been following this blog since 2010 & rarely would things get coverage in America until now. I wonder if its to shine a negative light on mexico for the masses

    1. Agreed. As of today Enemy #1 is in Mexico.

    2. I concur. I’ve been on this site since 2008, when none of these stories made it to the US media. I’m also on NewsBreak, where I have seen these stories pop-up more frequently within the last two years. “Latin Times”, an online US news organization out of New York is notorious for posting google translated stories from Mexican news outlets as their own. Much is lost in translation. Then of course, I see people from the US posting about things they really know nothing about. But, I do believe it’s done to get into or reinforce people’s already preconceived notions.

I disagree. Coverage in the US is about the same, a little less than before.

  2. I figured he was mayiza since he was wearing a sombrero and someone uploaded a screenshot of his supposed account where it shows a hat with a number and a sombrero on it as well.

    1. Why do they always ride two men grinding on each other on the motorcycle instead of having one badass sicario? Shit looks very sus.

  4. Why were the other 2 more alert than he was? Looks like he just stood waiting, we will never know.

  5. The kid was a mayo supporter, and chapiza members carried out the hit.

  6. I never understood how civilians will cheer for their favorite cartel when they have zero ties to it.

    1. He clearly had ties to them, they are just unknown, you have had to Say something dumb in public if they send Killers for you.. Like in the "El Pirata de Culiacan" case.

  8. Is this accurate? There are contradictory reports that gastelum switched sides to Mayiza, and that "el caballo " from the chapiza ordered the hit. I just find it difficult for a alleged "chapitos apologist" to freely livestream in the center of culiacan, Tres Rios when mayonesas crew now control most of the city.

  13. Then fucken Americans ask why Mexicans don't bad mouth the cartels in public?
This fucker could just as well been a reporter, radio host, influencer or even a street preacher talking about how you should not join cartels and he or she would have had the same fate.

    1. But he wasn't a reporter, radio host or street preacher(before being blasted in the face) was he?
If you don't want to get murdered during a cartel war don't be cheerleading for a faction.
      Simple as that.
850 thousand people live in Culiacán and they don't intentionally get killed by sicarios on motorcycles.
