Cartel Attacks Police Base with Carbomb in Luis Moya, Zacatecas

By "El Huaso" for Borderland Beat

A criminal group detonated a car bomb outside the Municipal Police headquarters in Luis Moya, Zacatecas yesterday leaving three officers injured.

A video captured by a drone, likely filmed by the criminal group themselves, shows the explosion originated from a black truck parked in front of the police headquarters. The explosion injured three police officers, damaged the police station, knocked out power to a portion of the town, and shattered windows of homes in a nearby neighborhood. The explosion terrified the local population, who shuttered businesses and stayed indoors.

The three injured police officers were flown by helicopter to a hospital and are expected to fully recover from their injuries.

According to local witnesses, the criminals fled in the direction of Aguascalientes state. In response to the attack, Aguascalientes state government deployed additional security forces to it's border.

The location of the bombing was geolocated by 22.4259672, -102.2543897

The bombing highlights how criminal use of explosives is on the rise in Mexico. Cartel arsenals increasingly contain drone deployed IEDs, car bombs, landmines, and grenades. Car bombs in particular are mostly used against security force bases, likely a result of being easy immobile targets. In December 2025, the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación used a carbomb to target a Policía Comunitaria base in the municipality of Coahuayana, Michoacán, killing six and wounding twelve others.

According to Víctor Manuel Sánchez Valdés, a security researcher from the University of Coahuila, there have been at least 20 car bomb attacks since 1994 in Mexico. Although relatively rare, according to Valdés, the CJNG is the group that uses car bombs the most in Mexico today.

  3. Not a car bomb. You can see multiple professional explosions. This is a military demolition. A PSY-OP 👁️
