New Independent Cartel of Sonora vs. Los Chapitos

"Sol Prendido" for Borderland Beat

Video translation is as follows:

A new cartel has emerged in the state of Sonora with the purpose of combating the Los Chapitos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel in that entity. This was announced by Robert J. Bunker, an expert in security issues, to the Daily News, pointing out that it is the fragmentation of an organization that was previously an ally of Los Chapitos.

The New Independent Cartel of Sonora emerged after the alliance of Los Salazar, Los Paredes, and Los Cazadores, criminal groups that in the past worked for Los Chapitos. For the security expert, the appearance of this new criminal organization suggests that the dominion of the Sinaloa Cartel is decreasing. In his opinion, what we are witnessing is the gradual fragmentation of the Los Chapitos faction from the Sinaloa Cartel.

According to Búnker, the main beneficiaries of this fragmentation are the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and the Caborca Cartel. The first being the only organization that can rival the Sinaloa Cartel in terms of size and power. With the two groups exalted in a bloody war throughout Mexico.

He explained that given the global competition between the Sinaloa Cartel and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, anything that could weaken the Sinaloa Cartel will be seen as beneficial to the organization led by El Mencho. This suggests that the 4-letter cartel has most likely already surrounded the new Independent Cartel of Sonora and is likely to be allied with it or at least try to provide it with some support.

Following the logic of the enemy of my enemy is my friend. If the Caborca Cartel, a rival of the Sinaloa Cartel in Sonora, leaves, it is very likely that it will also seek an alliance with both criminal organizations to confront Los Chapitos. A month ago this news medium interviewed someone identified as El Cazador 20, leader of Los Cazadores who announced the separation and the start of the war with Los Chapitos. In the interview he narrated the circumstances that led to the breakup.

    8. Seems like In order to defect and create a new cartel you have to have the blessing or El Mayo or El Mencho because there’s a process of ordering tons of cocaine from SA and processing drugs then transporting. You need to have millions and millions unless you use someone else’s contacts and piggy back using there routes. Let’s be honest Mexico underworld is controlled by 2 men/ 2 organizations. You have to have the blessing of one of them.

    1. They have to stay in the game now to be able to afford the protection. No way they could afford the bribes for authorities and funds for their armed wings if they retired.

    2. They cant retire, they need 20+ million dollars each year to stay free and keep the gob happy. Add inflation to these numbers, for the next 40 years. They have not enough money do pull this off. Mayo know this, thats why he is still in the game. He made much more money than the chapitos iber the time than the kids. He put much into legal businesses and the rest went to the gob. Mayo often moved coca from South America to sinaloa and sold it there to other groups who transported it to the usa to sell it. The real money was made by them and not by mayo.

    2. Thanks for the reply sol ! But there’s a lot involved , henchmen , controlled drug route to/in U.S., weapons, etc etc. Roughly to start a cartel how much is needed,? 50 million ?

      Delete
    3. Sol, your comment says “as long as consumers of illegal narcotics exist, cartels will continue to be of service.” That made me wonder if cartels are pushing fentanyl into the United States to make sure that hard drugs will never be legalized. Look at Portland, Oregon, they were the first city to experiment with decriminalizing small amounts of methamphetamine, heroin, etc. Since fentanyl addicts and the homeless population have wreaked havoc on Portland’s communities, lawmakers have decided that decriminalizing hard drugs was a mistake by changing it back to a crime to possess any amount in the near future. If decriminalization was a success, many other cities would have followed suit. If this sounds illogical, think back 20 years and tell me that you knew that pot would be legal in all 50 states of America right now. Just think about how much $$ the cartels would lose if hard drugs were legalized, on top of the $$ when marijuana was legalized.

    1. For sure. BLO seems to be most of the historical narco blood lines like the Caro Quintero’s, payans, Beltran leyvas, etc they’re so lowkey it’s hard to tell how big they really are but they’ve always had a big presence in Arizona and Sonora. If this new Sonoran alliance links up with BLO and Caborca then CDS is gonna have a major problem. Yea Sinaloa is historically where all the narcos are from and they’ve always grown poppies and now meth labs but Sonora is where all the action is. Not only do they have a large strip of the border but they have all that land to bring in boats, planes and trucks close to the US. The way CDS grew out of Guadalajara we might be seeing the same thing with this Sonoran alliance as mayo can’t live forever and the chapitos world is closing in on them.
