A trail of blood led several law enforcement agencies to a suspected Mexican Cartel member along the Texas-Mexico border on Jan. 9, according to a U.S. Border Patrol news release.

On Jan. 9, the Mexican government contacted the Del Rio Sector Foreign Operations Branch due to a police and cartel shootout near Guerrero, Coahuila, Mexico — which is located about 20 miles south of Eagle Pass, Texas.

The Mexican government believed at least one cartel member crossed the Rio Grande into Texas, according to the release.

“Cartel violence in Mexico has been on the rise,” said Raul L. Ortiz, Del Rio sector chief patrol agent. “The Border Patrol works with the Government of Mexico, neighboring sectors, and law enforcement partners to respond to these incidents and keep the people in our areas safe.”

Agents with the Del Rio Sector, Laredo Sector, Carrizo Springs Station and Eagle Pass South Station began the search for the man and discovered a trail of blood, according to the release. The trail led to a man with multiple gunshot wounds.

Border Patrol agents treated the man before he was airlifted to a hospital for medical treatment.

    1. "Better" depends on who you are referring to. Homicides and hugs up at the same time. Maybe they could initiate a hugicide or homihug program.
