Rolling Stone:Full 17 minute video of Sean Penn/Chapo interview

DD for Borderland Beat  video: Rolling Stone Magazine/Kate Castillo Productions
My thanks to Chivis for her help in acquiring  and embedding the video and helping put this together.

It is hard to believe that last Friday, just shy of six months on the lam, Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera was recaptured and now is once again incarcerated in Mexico’s only “super-max” prison, No.1 Altiplano, Centro Federal de Readaptación Social Número 1, in Mexico State.  The capo, premier leader of the Sinaloa Cartel,  famous for his narco tunnels,  escaped from Altiplano in July, 2015,  in a Chapo-tunnel,  engineered with precision, having been constructed from a farm house a mile from the prison, to Chapo’s cell shower floor.

His days of freedom, relatively short lived, came to an end because of the successful operation, “Black Swan” of the Mexican Navy.  He once again was prepared and almost eluded capture using a secret door to a staircase and sewer system.  He was successful in using an alike escape plan, February, 2014 plan in Culiacan, Sinaloa.

Few people knew there was another shocker coming, about the man whose life history, is a gift that somehow keeps on giving.

Within 48 hrs news broke that Actor Sean Penn had traveled to Sinaloa, in October 2015, just three months ago, met with Chapo and conducted an interview for Rolling Stone Magazine.

A video teaser of two minutes was included with the interview article, and today the full and complete 17 minute version was released.

It should be noted that Arely Gomez, eluded to the fact that it was Chapo’s communications with “actors and producers”, regarding his making and staring in a biographical movie, that lead the government to Chapo’s hiding network.

Yesterday Mexico said people should be grateful to Penn, for because of his involvement with Chapo, the capo was able to be captured.

(You may want to turn the volume down or off, as the Gallo?Rooster constant crowing is more than annoying.)

    4. El morronis de la Palma: what do you think Hector Palma Salazar will do when released? He is released from US supermax on 7-16-16. He was tight with chapo and the salazars are still very strong in southern Sonora. Do you think he will retire or get back into the game? I like your comments you have good intel

What do you think of the BLO,CNGJ etc....Do you feel safer in Sinaloa, Durango or somewhere else....confirm if any of the stories are false or true...What musical groups/Banda are your favorite....smh facken madda fackers sanaba biches....could of done better

  9. Ive formed a unique prospective on Chapo these recent days, as more & more info has come forth. Particularly from 1 of his answers where he thinks he dosen't go looking for trouble..

We all know Chapo moved in on Tijuana & Juarez declaring war on the Arrellano Felix bros & Amado Carrilo Fuentes. And all the violence that brought on. BUT even more important if Chapo woulden't of tryed to move in on the GULF.. There would of never been no ZETAS! Osiel Cardenas recruited them special forces thus creating the Zetas to take on & run off Sinaloa from their plazas.

We all know how much terror & violence they introduced through out Mexico. Both on their enemies but SPECIALLY on innocent people. Which only intensified after the split from CDG. Hell, i remember reading Chivis & her foundation helping all the people left homeless after the Zetas cleared a few towns.

Also look at how Guerrero is now, so many criminal groups.. So much violence, from what I understand.. Los Beltran Leyva brothers had complete control there. But that was before Chapo turned on Mochomo, leading to Arturo, to split from the Sinaloa federation. Thus leading to Barbies betrayal thus leading to weaking of BLO & losing control of Guererro. Maybe those students or normalistas disappearance.. Maybe they'd still be alive under BLO.

    1. He turned on Arturo because he killed his son by mistake

    3. The one who killed innocents were the military calderon wanted every one to hate the zetas so they started a propaganda campaign against them killing and displacing innocent people throuh out the country and at the same time was spreading good stuff at about the cds he wanted one cartel and the zetas didnt want to be a part of it because they knew haw much of traitors the cds is

      Delete
    4. I think the same way he and the federation declared war to los zetas in nuevo laredo and started the way most of the cartels operate now a days I think this interview is only to make him loom good even hug able to the viewers but ask hi the real questions about the killing he orderd in nuevo laredo of supposedly zetas and I quote about all the kidnapped in sinaloa directly under his cartel or local maña

      Delete
    5. You have to understand half of the BB readers still believe in a "good cartel" and the occasional "not so bad Capo".

Every time Chapo's men littered the streets of Acupulco with dead bodies, faces peeled off and all, the cheers here went from 0 to 100 pretty quick.

Having to deal with an invading good cartel is almost as dangerous as dealing with the current cartel in power. These guys don't come in asking the locals friendly questions. They add to the chaos. Speeding trucks throughout the city and shootouts on a daily basis is not going to bring back the tourists.

      Delete
    6. Alot of people give alot of credit or in this case blame on el chapo sure he cause wars but the killers who ran los zetas and those other hit squads would exist regardless if he step in their town

      Delete
    7. Correct me if I'm wrong but werent the Arellanos the ones to make the first move by killing Chapos compadre, "El Rayo" and then by trying to assasinate him? As far as the whole Beltran and Chapo beef, it seems like it was a misunderstanding and the one who really caused all of the mistrust between them was la barbie, who in several interviews claimed to be independent from any cartel.

      Delete
    8. Chapo Beltranes beef was because BLO wanted more of the pie and they did business with el Mata Amigos Osiel Cardenas. That is actually what triggers the big war between Chapo and Zetas.

The Garcia Abrego people were ok win Chapo because of el Azul Esparragoza and so did Amado Carrillo, but when the old school bosses were out of both CDG and Juarez cartels, Vicerroy and Osiel began to plot with Arturo El Barbas.

Still, some people from Tamaulipas were ok with Chapo still and also from Juarez which today are the new CDG and Gente Nueva.

In other words Beltranes had been trying to be Chapo but they couldn't, just look at their greedy faces...

The Tijuana beef was the same, honestly everyone underestimated Guzman and wanted to take him out. Chapo has only defended tbh.

      Delete
    9. 10:42 You are correct. The ones who started the shit were the Beltranes and Osiel Cardenas.

    11. 4:06 el azul wanted to move in nuevo laredo because of his hatred for the z. el mayo moved on tj because he not only controlled routes but also had family living there. now el mayo along with azul and beltran all agreed to move on juarez because they felt it belonged to them due to their loyalty to amado. chapo really never had nothing to do with it but being an instigator in all this drama.

      Delete
    12. 6:07 I don't know your info sources but Chapo DID fight for Juarez with Gente Nueva and he fought Zetas with Gente Nueva, Antrax and Los Pelones the latter being a cell from BLO.

When Beltranes got greedy and negotiated with Osiel is when Chapo separated from them.

Actually Lazcano was supposed to align with El Chapo after Osiel was out since Lazca was jus a sicario along with Trevino, the real instigator was El Barbas Arturo Beltran who convinced those dudes to become their own cartel.

Zetas though couldn't handle so much power and they self destroyed. El Azul never plotted no wars he was though a diplomatic key figure to keep many narcos at bay to give Chapo some air.

There were reports saying that they were able to track Chapo down because of his interest in making a movie. Now they are saying the ones doing the raid didn't know they were going for el Chapo and they just stumbled across him by luck?

    1. Indeed sir. I guess the only people who could believe this don't live in Mexico. The government tried harder on their whole version this time, you know showing dead people and some videos full of fiction. This Chapo doesn't even look alike with the last one. This is so Osama style haha. Funny how that Marinos video never shows actual combat, were they only able to buy one go pro camera lol. Wake up people the real arrests that have been happening are way different. There is a Nat Geo documentary where it shows how Chapo people locate any strangers, they even tell some Britt female reporter that she has 30 minutes to leave Badiraguato. It's super unlikely that he was in Mochis and if he did he would have more halcones than ever, including local vendors, taxi drivers and such, not only crooked cops...anyway the first tunnel scape fairy tale should have been enough of a wake up call.

Chapo Guzman has around 5,000 Elite sicarios at his service all over his Sinaloa Federation group of cartels. His sole faction could have from 1,000 to 2,000. And I'm talking about Elite groups, not casual pistoleros.

Chapo has hundreds of halcones which are also civilians not only municipales crooked cops.

He was supposed to be detained by Policia Federal in some ridiculous escape where this billionaire had to steal shitty cars. Policia Federal is corrupted as fuck as well and Chapo would know their faces, patrol number, info, etc. Believe me federales would have helped his ass if they knew who it was or turn a blind eye.

Let's pretend they got him like that, why take him to some hotel, to humiliate him? That's anti constitutional and they never mocked any other narcos even smaller time ones.

      Let's be real now.

      Arturo Beltran Leyva outcome:

      - His chief of security betrayed him.
      - They sent 200 soldiers to apprehend a group of around 10 people who were in the house of Barbas.
      - The shootout lasted HOURS.
      - Arturo knew they couldn't get him alive, he knew too much.

      Tony Tormenta outcome:
      - Apparently his security chief also set him up.
      - Same story like A LOT of Marinos to fuck with about 10 guys in a office.
      - Shootout lasted some hours as well.
      - Intense mobilization of sicarios around the area and shootouts with the army around.
      - Tony also knew he couldn't be gotten alive.

So I hope someone with brains can tell the difference between staged and real. On a side note for the all knowing Americanos, even Mexican reporters don't believe this shit. Mexican people neither as much as the first arrest which daring scape is unreal.

  29. Worst interviewer ever, the worst journalist I have seen in my entire life.

There would have being many good questions to ask him:
    1. Whats your opinion about the resolution of the Supreme Court about marihuana, shoud it be legalized?
    2. Why you never decided to move away from drugs?
    3. What would you say to the people who believed that you sponsored EPN capaing so he left you go?
    ...

  30. Wonder!

Does a high level arrest of capo influence volume of coke shipped and retailers pricing. Likely not, if like have read the mgt.system is vertical per leadership.

Could it be all is run like a regular biz with orders based on demand with scheduled hand-offs as being routine.

    Cheers

  33. It's sad and infuriating how Chapo tries to be an anti-hero, like he's some kind of good guy, a banit with a heart. Good thing his ego got him busted.

    2. If you're Russian you know that the power of the Russian mafia lies in the fact that they don't "exist" as an organization. CDS, CDG, zetas, etc Just shows division and capitalistic greed not a united mob as a country.

    3. 3:15 mexican cartels have one problem, too many politicians military and police associates, each wanting their own privatized criminal turf, and that is to fight over the table scraps only, they ain't much more "left overs" left there...

    1. Larry King could ask these questions and it would still be boring. Lets face it, the questions are targeted to US readers who have no clue about their southern neighbors problems.

  42. The best I can tell from this RS video is that some one went and interviewed a FARMER in Mexico complete with squawking chickens in the background. Really?? THIS is the world's "public enemy #1??!!" There appears to be a huge discrepancy between this FARMER being interviewed and the iconic LEGEND he's been made out to be. I'm not seeing a level of ANY type of sophistication here that exemplifies any magnitude of net worth attributed to this guy over the years....not the cars, the clothes, the setting, the ego r the security...none of it is right. ?You really want us to believe a guy escapes from SUPERMAX TWICE and is hanging out on some farm somewhere in the mountains where he can easily be tracked and captured?! Seems rather ridiculous all the way around...but then Mexico is quite often a very ridiculous place where truth is stranger than fiction.

    1. @11:11pm yeah this is not a movie it is real life he may sound or look stupid to you but he is not and he looks like a regular humble guy because that is what he is used too look at his sons all flashy but not him and about the security of course he did not and still had not that security like the movies because he was used to always being protected by the government his security was always paying the right people. So remember boys and girls all the movies how they show all the flashy houses cars lives vacation is just on tv except if you are a banker or politician. I do not know what kind of men you like but im guessing if he was tall blue eyes blonde hair you would believe it then or was it the rooster that got to you??

    2. @11:11.that's the difference between him,and you. Those are the things you you believe. You put him down like if your some kind of royal, but i doubt that.Yeah, its sad what this poor farmer had accomplished in his life,i bet that's way more than what you've done with your life.I know you're probably gonna bring up that, look where he's at now.But i doubt this is the last we hear of him.So before u put down a humble farmer, check yourself out,and know that u will never accompish what he accomplished.you miserable snob.

    1. Exactly, even in the Mayo Zambada interview he tells Julio Scherer that he may ask Chapo if we wanted to be interviewed as well and it never happened. Why? Because the real head of cartels (in plural because he commands many like La Cosa Nostradamus commission) wouldn't roll like that. Chapo never wanted or cared about that shit. If he wanted he could have done it via social networks with Kate, like getting the questions and then like Tuta, filming in a random place the answers and uploading the video. So no chinguen raza...

  47. For the past 5 years, Mexican heroin has been the most lucrative trade for Chapo. Yet people still mention cocaine when they talk cartels.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Because cocaine is moved in huge quantities. Heroin has always been moved in smaller quantities and always has had that "underground" scene rockstars, jazz players, artists, etc are the type of costumers with money that can lead a "normal" life on heroin.. is an outcast drug just without the psychotic of crack/meth, a mellow self destruction...

  48. What people don't understand is this is Chapo, he comes from humble beginnings and is a old school narco. What did people expect, he is from La Tuna. Where there is farms, ranches and nothing but sierra madre. The questions were lame but what did we expect, Sean Penn has instructed them. For all of us " narco war " enthusiasts we could have come up with better questions, we know that. But I don't think Chapo ever wanted to elaborate on his business. The questions were pretty bland and the answers were as well. Nothing was revealed about his organization that we already know. Don't be fooled by the humble persona, Chapo knows he is a powerful individual but even he knows he is only as powerful as his money extends and even then every trakatero has his day that comes to an end.

  49. the interview was just some bs questions to get him on tape saying he was a drug dealer and will be used as evidence

  52. He may have "Down's syndrome". Not looking very lucid in the video. I'd guess an IQ of around 85.

    ReplyDelete
  53. And this is the person that several journalists describe as an extremely intelligent and charismatic individual? By watching the interview it is easy to tell that this is a very uneducated and common person.

By the way, did you notice that some of the guys that walked in the background seemed to be wearing military outfits?
