Zetas lose 1.5 Tons of Cocaine in Colombia Bust

Borderland Beat

In 2012 Colombia has broken drug seizure record

Headed for the United States

Police in Cartagena have seized 1.5 tons of cocaine in a container that was to be shipped to Honduras, en route to the US, local media sources reported Monday.
El Universal reported the driver of the truck, Alexander Valencia Enrique Navas, was arrested in the process of delivering the container to the city's maritime terminal, and is to be charged for drug trafficking and possession of narcotics.
The cocaine has an estimated value of $5 million, and has come on the heels of an announcement by President Juan Manuel Santos that 2012 has already witnessed the largest amount of drugs seized by police in the nation's history.
The 1.5 tons of cocaine seized by Colombian police on Monday in Cartagena was allegedly intended for the notorious Mexican drug cartel, "Los Zetas", reported local media on Tuesday.
"The initial investigation reveals that the cargo belonged to Los Urabeños and was being shipped to Los Zetas," said Colombia's Police Director General Jose Roberto Leon Riano.

The drugs were supposedly going to be shipped to Puerto Cortes in Honduras before arriving  in Mexico.

The 1.5 tons were found in a truck in an undisclosed Cartagena maritime terminal. Upon opening the truck, narcotics agents reportedly discovered 60 rectangular packages marked with the 'Fox Sports' logo.
The estimated value of the drug seizure is $5 million.
Riano told loca media that this latest drug bust brings the "total amount of cocaine seized in 2012 to 185 tons, the largest amount seized in the past five years."

  1. So, will the US now also legalise cocaine?
Since the cartels are sending tons and tons of them to the US.
Like some US states did to marijuana recently in order to disrupt the income of the cartels?
If cocaine and other hard drugs are not legalised, the cartels will still carry on with their fight for turf and the consequent massacre will still go on!!!!
As it is, the US is becoming a nation of drug addicts!
Much like the China prior to the Second World War!!!!

    1. Cocaine and marijuana are two totally different things and alter the mind in severely opposite ways. Marijuana was not legalized to disrupt the cartels but it might have an effect.

  4. Ha, ha, the truck driver was arrested. Most of the record breaking exporting of cocaine is moved by corporations. Someone missed a pay off or perhaps there is trouble in the market set up after cartels where replaced by the upper crust. Too much money. Mega, mega amounts are being moved out of Columbia as evidenced by plummeting prices.

They pay on delivery. If its never delivered to em,
they don't pay. Just like if Zetas are moving 1.5 tons to a customer in Dallas-Fort Worth and it gets seized at the border. The shipper eats that cost. The Columbians just gotta get em' another load quick,

  24. I laugh at everyone of these posts. I'm an American. I'm very informed, well educated and have great knowledge of the "drug trade" as some of you have labeled this never ending action.

American's are NOT the entire problem to filthy drug lords, cartels, blah blah blah.......they are nothing but poor, illiterate, desperate idiots.

Drug trafficking is simple. It's all about the money. But, it's so idiotic because all the Mexicans are doing is killing their very own purpose in this life and that is to be proud Mexicans and stand up for their own country.

But, their spineless egos have been crushed by not having a proper education, legal means to provide for their families....especially for their children.

God, what have they done? Please don't tell me make money so they can eat. They have destroyed an amazing culture that I for one miss being a part of. No longer will I ever go into a border town that I spent time and money in for Christmas. I used to bring friends from all over the great USA to shop, eat, exchange smiles, respect the culture. Now all I do is pity you.

The worst part of all of this is the Mexicans blame the Americans on their demand for drugs. Have the Mexicans ever thought of NOT continuing this filth? OH NO!!!! $$$$$$$$$$$$$

I am always happy to read that another cartel member is slaughtered.

One day, just maybe, the fear and dishonesty that is spreading in your bodies like cancer will make you stop for a moment and use the brain that God gave you to do something right. And, that's a BIG maybe.

    Merry Christmas!

It has altered the day to day life of Mexicans in one third of the nation bur has not destroyed the rich, beautiful, diverse culture of Mexico.

About the education, that is an important point, not often spoken about. The complexities of the Mexican education system and its failure is a huge component in the war of violence. I am working on an article about chapo and his illiteracy yet rising to inclusion in the "Worlds Most Powerful List" by the only method available to marginalized children who are denied education.....Paz, Chivis

I'm a Mexican American Army Veteran, I served in active duty and national guard and we go anywhere in the world to help people during natural disasters or we go and fight for them because it's all about freedom. But only one country in the whole world sent help to the USA during the Katrina Hurricane disaster and that was Mexico that its Naval hospital ships and food to help. 39. yet, cocaine is still available in EVERY small town and city in America at a cheap prices. Good to see the drug war is working. Save money, legalize it all, make it law that ANY tax funded recipient must take drug tests, employers, schools and insurance agencies can test and reject those who pop positive, build new state "asylums" to house those drugged out (not treat) and make it illegal to do drugs in public or in open air areas that may affect other people nearby, illegal to operate any vehicle under the influence or illegal to do in the presence of children. Allow health insurers to charge outrageous fees for treatment. Once all those are in place, then legalize all drugs, tax the crap out of them, then let the drug heads blow their brains out with their choice of drugs, and those who lose control will die off and those who can control it. Then the drug problem will be solved! Peace out!

    1. Yeah! General Manuel Noriega was a US legal resident alien and a soldier who trained in Fort Bragg, then went back to Panama and carired out a coup d etat to seze power, after that he started sending tons of cocaine to the US, until our military forces invaded Panama, took him back to the states and put him in jail for many years, then he was extradited to France. About Air America, it was and airline funded and operated by the CIA in Viet Nam, and its airplanes were bringing the soldiers dead bodies full of heroine from Nam. As usual when all hell broke loose in the US and Congress started an investigation no one knew anything. Same thing with the Iran-Contra affair, they blame it on a US Coronel-I don't remember his name- and the White House didn't know shit about it. 51. Also 911 had much less to do with prices of cocaine than the fortunes of war with farc in Columbia. With the cartels there now secondary and farc greatly lessened look for corporations with US connections to increase production hence a record bust. Of course they want prices high but they get greedy and produce too much. Note that a cartel was blamed yet nothing was delivered yet.

My original price source is from a pilot friend who slums border towns. Government and news price quotes are highly suspect and I admit the one I used today is from online so likely bullshit.

I do believe most of the investment and profit is a child of the respective countries' upper crust. Areas of the world with strong US connections and plentiful natural drug resources tend to produce a lot.
