"Socalj" for Borderland Beat

Two elements of the National Guard, who are fugitives from justice, are being investigated for having received a bribe to allow a trailer carrying an arsenal and three vehicles with a report of theft to pass through a checkpoint, in Nogales, Sonora.

According to a report by the Tercia de Grillos media outlet, on Thursday morning, the sub-agent, Elías Hernández López, and the Guard, Adiel Alfonso Rojas Gutiérrez, in charge of Patrol 12764, detained a truck driver for a review when leaving Nogales, where they were They offered $75,000 (1.5 million Mexican pesos), the money they received so that they would let the cargo truck pass, which was on its way to Hermosillo.

The commander of the Nogales Communications Section, Alejandro Medel Casas, confirmed that these officers do belong to the National Guard. Personnel from the National Research Center of Nogales detected the bribery, so they alerted the Army of the 4th Military Zone; Later, police and military operation was implemented from Nogales to Hermosillo, to find the cargo vehicle.

At around 4:00 p.m. that same day, police elements detected and guarded a white dry-box semi-trailer with License Plate 16-UB-5S, Economic Number 15660, in which they were transporting three units with a report of theft and an arsenal of weapons, owned by a criminal group that operates in Sonora and Sinaloa. The arrest and inspection of the unit took place in the vicinity of the Nogales Social Rehabilitation Center Number ll in front of a Kenworth company property.

According to reports, the trailer was transporting three vehicles of different models, 9 AK-47 rifles, a Thompson rifle, 9 AR-15 rifles, an MP5, and an MK5, as well as 7 short weapons, and ammunition of various calibers. Everything insured was transferred and made available to the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR), in Hermosillo.

Likewise, during the first investigations at approximately 11:50 a.m. on Thursday, officers Hernández López and Rojas Gutiérrez, knowing that the police were looking for the trailer and investigating them, left Patrol 12764 abandoned, in front of the facilities of the 107 Company of the National Guard, based in Nogales, Sonora, and later fled in a taxi. So far their whereabouts are unknown, they are automatically considered deserters from the police force.

    1. 12:13; Thank you for analyzing this with an open mind. Although $75k this is an unusually large bribe going to GN soldiers, these men may have represented funds would go up the appropriate chain of command; but just as likely, unlike a US enforcement officer, their odds of either busting or calling in after bribery would statistically have the men dean (and possibly their family) murdered and disappeared.
Like comments at 9:24; citizens of the USA need to think outside their little bubble and put things into perspective. I feel for these government employees seeking to improve their lives but end up in a situation making a wage that has them subsiding on tortillas to support their families, and are constantly threatened (by narcos and their superiors) with death if they don’t comply…..like you said; Plato o plomo.

  3. Didn't somebody tell those soldiers that the GN is uncorruptable? On a serious note, can someone offer me a reasonable guesstimate on what % of the Guardia Nacional is corrupted please? I know it's probably a "stupid question" I'm seeking an answer that is fact based and not "Mexico is 10,000% corrupt. Thank you, BB. You guys and gals have kept me sane the past few months. I've been dealing with health, relationship and financial issues and Alleve, hot baths and this site have been my only escape. Thank you. I hope Chivis is doing well. Viva Juan Rambo and Sicario 006 for a good laugh.

    1. About 20% of GN is curupt.
Yes obradors government is curupt, they want to milk all the money in form of bribes, CJNG has been growing, look how many States in Mexico, they are in now. Many a times the military of Mexico, had chances to shoot up cartel convoys, from the air, but we never hear that happening.
