At least nine bodies have appeared in recent days in a clandestine grave apparently used by an alleged leader of the Sinaloa Cartel in the state of Nuevo León.

The Nuevo León prosecutor's office specified that since January 26, 2022, it has been investigating the event, in which forensic experts are working, in the Unión de Colonos Benito Juárez neighborhood, in the municipality of Escobedo, which is part of the Monterrey metropolitan area, capital of Nuevo Leon.

To date, a total of 10 bodies have been recovered, as well as firearm casings, "clothing, shoes, tennis shoes, boots and fragments of cloth." The official report highlighted that some of the bodies found had gunshot wounds, others asphyxiated, and several more with blows that caused "deep skull contusion."

The land is located behind some soccer fields located on the Camino a San José de los Sauces, about 400 meters south of Gasoducto Avenue and is currently guarded by soldiers of the National Guard (GN), agents of the Agency State Investigation Department of Nuevo León and members of the state police.

The authorities located the land after the capture on January 19 of Alan "El Cano" Ervey, an alleged leader of the Sinaloa Cartel in the region, according to the Nuevo León Attorney General's Office.

El Cano, 35, faces arrest warrants for the crimes of kidnapping and homicide. He was arrested by elements of the State Investigation Agency on January 19, as reported by Borderland Beat, along with seven of his accomplices, while he was having dinner on Tuesday night with his family in a restaurant in the municipality of Guadalupe, in the metropolitan area of Monterey.

The operation to carry out the arrest of El Cano left a balance of two alleged assassins killed. The capo is identified as allegedly responsible for a wave of violence that has hit Monterrey, the second-most populous city in Mexico, in recent months.

Alan Ervey was a priority target for the government of Nuevo León, as he was associated with various executions and threats against police officers. It is said that the cell led by him sought to control the plaza of Nuevo León, which unleashed an escalation of violence in recent months.

According to the Breitbart news portal, the organization led by Ismael el Mayo Zambada and Los Chapitos has sent shock groups to the entity. The portal assures that since June of last year, the Sinaloa Cartel entered the battle for control of the state (the Northeast and Gulf Cartel also operate there). Their base of operations, they warn, is in the city of Montemorelos.

His capture occurred amid mounting pressure on the Sinaloa Cartel. Last December, the United States government published a list offering five million dollars for information leading to the arrest or conviction of Ovidio Guzmán, Iván Archivaldo Guzmán, Jesús Alfredo Guzmán and Joaquín Guzmán, sons of El Chapo Guzmán, former leader of the Sinaloa cartel.
