7 Months After Her Husband Disappeared, Member Of Sonoran Searching Group Killed

"El Choclo" for Borderland Beat

Gladys Aranza Ramos (right) was killed by unknown assailants on Thursday. She was looking for her husband Brayan Omar Celaya (left), who went missing in Guaymas seven months ago. Guaymas has one of the highest rates of disappearances in all of Mexico.
A member of a group in neighboring Sonora dedicated to searching for missing loved ones has been murdered. Gladys Aranza Ramos, a 28-year-old mother, was gunned down in her home an hour northeast of Guaymas late Thursday night in a crime being called a femicide by authorities, according to the state Attorney’s Office.

When her husband, Brayan Omar Celaya, went missing last December, she joined the Guerreras Buscadoras de Sonora, one of a number of volunteer searching groups active in the state, in the hopes of finding him.

Investigators are considering that work as a potential factor in her murder, according to a state release that denounced the murder of someone searching for their husband as cowardly. The murder prompted outcry and demands for justice from fellow searchers.

On the Facebook page of the Guerreras Buscadoras de Sonora, or the warrior searchers of Sonora, Ramos was recalled as a great fellow warrior, and a strong and loving woman.

“Today they took from us a mother, daughter, sister, wife,” the post went on to say. “Who was only looking for husband Brayan.”

In her latest Facebook post, Ramos shared a photo that included the date of her husband’s disappearance from the hand of a message where he expressed despair and pain after seven months of not having any news about the whereabouts of her daughter’s father.

“I don’t know who else to ask to please allow you to come home. I think I haven’t begged enough yet maybe I have not cried the indicated and maybe I have not looked for what is necessary, I don’t know what else to do, I don’t know what else, just keep going, my God please help me,” she wrote.

“We’re going to find you my love,” she wrote. “Wait for me just a little longer.”

  1. She writes, "Wait for me just a little longer"... and she found him, just not on this side. My heart breaks from these stories but I keep reading. BB makes one do some soul searching

  2. This is sad because Gladys is not pushing jale azul or a halcon. She wants to find her missing spouse. Her facebook message is pure love.

  7. Where in this article does it imply CDS is behind this. Sonora has so many criminal cells running around there cry baby. Plus this woman was shot and killed, not raped, mutilated and tortured rhen killed like mensos band of tweekers from cjng would've done to this poor woman.
