Psymposia, a non-profit media organization, hosted a podcast with renown drug war journalist Ioan Grillo.

Grillo has reported on the Mexican Drug War and cartel violence for the last 20 years. His books include “El Narco: Inside Mexico’s Criminal Insurgency,” “Gangster Warlords: Drug Dollars, Killing Fields, and the New Politics of Latin America,” and “Blood Gun Money: How America Arms Gangs and Cartels.”

In this episode we discuss his newest book, Blood Gun Money, which is a look at how the illegal gun and drug trades are intertwined, and how U.S. gun laws result in firearms making their way into black market in Mexico and Latin America, including into the hands of drug cartels.

Co-hosts: Brian Normand, David Nickles, Russell Hausfeld. Editor: Matt Payne

  1. How about the millions of dollars worth of weaponry the German company HK got caught selling to the cartels?

Or the actual gun factories found in Jalisco, in which CJNG was building their own rifles from scratch?

    1. Yes, thank you. They also try to blame the US for all the drug demand in the world, yet every other "tiendita" in mex is a dealer storefront...that ain't selling to gringos, I assure you.

    2. the deal was about i think less then 10.000 rifles sold, and about 3000 who got diverted.
About 70% of guns recovered by Mexican law enforcement officials from 2011 to 2016 were originally purchased from legal gun dealers in the United States, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
...While an estimated 580 weapons are smuggled into Mexico from the United States.

    3. I absolutely agree: stop blaming the next man and start taking care of your own backyard.

    4. You do realize Hk is a privately owned company that sold guns illegialy to mexico, also they have an ongoing law suit in germany for that. Also they didn't sell it to cartels, they sold it to mexican states, so what is your point?

    5. @11:02 Come on bro, 90% of the guns the cartels own are from U.S.A.

    6. what about those things?

most weapons are from the US

so what are you trying to say?

    7. Screw Ioan Grillo and his shitty opinions. 🖕🏼
From the towering intellect of opinion pushers I've recently learned that it's the USA'S ultimate goal is to arm every criminal in the world and turn them all into junkies to act as the jack-booted thugs of both the Illuminati and the personal minions of The Orange Man.
It's true, just ask any brainwashed socialist and they'll tell you that taking the guns away from nonviolent citizens, disbanding the police forces and opening the border to a literal war between drug gangs with military grade weapons is the most smartest and bestest thing we could ever do for this country! Well, aside from letting that glad-handing huckster Grandpa Badfinger fraudulently steal the election of course. You can't "build back better" until you've destroyed what was there in the first place. You know, like the Constitution and other silly bullshit things like that.

You know what? I've entirely had my fill of left-wing "journalism" I've abandoned every paper, tv show and website that wants to push that shit in my face. And I'm willing to bet I'll abandon many other opinión pushing outlets before long. I urge you all to do the same. Don't give these scumbags any clicks, don't put a penny into the pockets of the Idiot Left or their lackeys. Don't support companies like Coca-Cola who are trying to blackmail and bully the American People into thinking how they want us to. It's a fucking junk food company! and they decided they're going to force us to think how they want?! Lol! Seriously?! What kind of God complex does their complete jerkoff CEO have to have to think he's in control of the United States?

Sorry asshole, I no longer want your soda. But I would like to see you drowned in a bucket of it and left to slowly dissolve like that tooth did in my 8th grade science project. I've even stopped going to resteraunts that only serve Coke products. That's the only language these scumbag corporations speak. The language of dwindling profit margins. Hit them where it hurts before it gets worse and becomes a permanent fixture in this country. Before we must genuflect before total cunts like Suckerberg and the overlords of Major League Baseball.

I certainly won't shed a tear when the inevitable happens and the cartels eventually come for Ioan Grillo either. Armed with what I assume will be guns personally put into the hands of the sicarios by Orange Man himself during the last CIA funded cartel appreciation dance and pizza party. 🙄

    8. That was already reported by BB. Menso.

    9. There is no doubt that “straw purchases” have allowed US guns to enter Mexico, but there is no way in hell that is how the majority of MILITARY GRADE firearms are making it into the country en masse..

    10. @3:40AM thanks for the facts - I didn’t realize Mexican Law enforcement was so diligent and trustworthy!

    11. The day's of believing what the bATF has to say died with them being involved in gun running into Mexico themselves. At this point if you believe what the US Federal Government has to say you've got mental problems because they're just as criminal as the drug cartels.

  5. I have read and enjoyed informative pieces from Grillo on Mexico but when I see him advocating legalization and decriminalization of drugs such as Cocaine, one can only conclude he is a moron and since, I have lost all interest in his work.

    1. Agreed. The only way the legalization of illicit drugs could work would be in a medically controlled environment, the same way Switzerland “legalized heroin”.

To legalize all illicit drugs in the current state of things would just be mass genocide, worse than things already are (with the millions of addicts already established).

    1. If stringent gun control was so effective, then why are the cartels and criminals flooded with guns?

Because of the rights of American citizens? Lmao

I’m happy others here can smell the B/S

    2. 100% Ioan Grillo is a British soy boy who constantly shills for gun control. Yeah Grillo I wish I could just walk into any gun store and pick up an MP5 as easily as you claim.

  10. STOP WASTING YOUR TIME ON FAKE PEOPLE WHO CLAIM TO BE AN AGENT I WAS SCAMED 4TIMES NOT UNTIL I RECIEVE A MESSAGE ON MY WHATSAPP TO CONTACT MR HARRIS WHICH I DID NOW I AM A FULL MEMBER OF THE GREAT ILLUMINATI BROTHERHOOD BE WHAT YOU WHICH FOR IN LIFE BY JOINING THE GREAT ILLUMINATI BROTHERHOOD TODAY Further encouraging the rumours is the widespread use of supposed "Illuminati" imagery in music videos. Many Freemason and Illuminati symbols, like devil horns and the all-seeing eye, have simply become popular in mainstream culture. But it's also true that some musicians seem to enjoy deliberately playing with symbols connected to secret societies.if you are interested contact via whatsapp or call +14092993890 GOOD LUCK.
