Death Toll Reaches 17 in Revenge Attack From La Familia Michoacana Against Police

"MX" for Borderland Beat

Note: First attack left 13 dead in Coatepec Harinas. Second attack left 4 dead in Alquisiras. Investigators say both incidents are related.

The updated death toll surpasses the cartel-police ambushes from October 2019 in Aguililla, Michoacan (14) and April 2015 in San Sebastián del Oeste (15). This may be the deadliest attack against law enforcement in Mexico's drug war.

Gunmen from La Familia Michoacana (LFM) ambushed and killed 17 law enforcement members in the State of Mexico: eight state officers and five prosecution investigators in Coatepec Harinas, and four more state officers in Almoloya de Alquisiras.

Authorities say that the officers killed in the first location were carrying out patrols when they were ambushed by cartel members. The last four officers were killed while they were heading to the first location to help their fallen comrades.

Images shared below show the bullet-ridden police vehicles and bodies lying by the side of the road. Rodrigo Martínez-Celis, state security minister, called the attack an "an affront to the Mexican state".

"We will respond with all force and support of the law," he told reporters.

The National Guard and the Mexican Armed Forces are searching by land and air for the perpetrators.

The Attorney General's Office in the State of Mexico confirmed that the ambush was carried out by LFM as revenge for a law enforcement operative carried out near the area on March 16.

On that day, security forces working in Zacualpan municipality seized three vehicles and a notebook owned by LFM. That notebook contained confidential information about LFM's hiding, spying, and drug sale locations.

LFM, a criminal group born in the state of Michoacan, splintered in 2011 after the arrest of its last main leader Jose de Jesus Mendez Vargas ('El Chango'). However, it continued to operate in smaller cells that carried out drug trafficking, kidnappings, and extortions in parts of Michoacan, Guerrero, and the State of Mexico.

The State of Mexico was the second most-deadly state in all of Mexico for police officers last year. It registered 39 police murders, only behind Guanajuato with 84. These states are followed by Veracruz (39), Guerrero (37) and Chihuahua (35).

    1. Yeah it’s the people of Medardo “Lalo Mantecas/100” Hernández Vera. He used to be under Armando “Player” Hernandez Hernandez. Both of which were old-time FM bosses going back to the early 2000s. Armando “Player” Hernandez Hernandez was later arrested and sentenced to 190 years for a litany of crimes including the murder of the presidente municipal de Zacualpan in 2015. “Lalo Mantecas” has been in a brutal war with CJNG over Edomex for a few years. His nephew was dismembered alive and “Lalo Mantecas” responded by leaving a truck with 15 dead from a CJNG rancho in it—both reported on by BB.

    2. 5:54 PM That wasn't Lalo Manteca's or his people that did that. Omar García Harfuch sent in his personal hit sqaud of SEMAR to do that work. That was the main reason CJNG tried to kill him and they are going to kill him it might take Mencho 10 years but he is going to die. The Familia Michoacana de Guerrero begged Mencho for a cease fire once they realized CJNG had already surrounded them from the North and the South. CJNG wasn't on the offensive in Guerrero and Huetamo they were playing defense. Things were starting to turn and they were slowly going on the offensive and the FM de Guerrero didn't like that one bit. So they begged for a cease fire. I don't know what CJNG got out of it but they accepted the cease fire with the FM de Guerrero but not Lalo Mantecas.

    3. 5:54 your info is legit hit nail one the head you know exactly what your already talking about and the 7:24 your goofy stops being a cheerleader and get facts straight Fm never begged your crazy if any ir was other way around Cjng lost in Tierra caliente every one and their momma knows that that’s why they call for a truce cause they were looking very weak in that war front

    4. 6:15 PM CJNG didn't lose Huetamo, Turicato, Tacambaro, Nocupetaro, Caracuaro, Churumuco, Arteaga Michoacan, Zirandaro, Coahayutla, Zihuatanejo eastern part borders Zirandaro and Petatlan, Petatlan, Coyuca de Catalan between Zirandaro and Zihatanejo Petatlan, Then they have most of the municipalities that border Morelos from Guerrero. The Familia Michocana de Guerrero was fighting CJNG in Carcauro, Huetamo, Zirandaro they only made it near Zirandaro and close to Huetamo from San Lucas because the Sedena was pushing and then they would follow behind them. You are speaking out of your ass. The people that were found in the Pick up truck and the people that were killed in the racho on the outskirts of Huetamo was done by Omar Garcia Harfuch personal Semar hitman squad.

    1. Don't worry, they will send them.

    2. No they wont send anybody, the dead officers were likely getting paid off by one of the 2 major DTO's operating in the area. Obviously the level of corruption extends all the way to the top, a few dead cops might not be news for more than a few weeks. When the Lebarons were ambushed in Sonora the incident was international news for months, a lot longer than the Aguililla ambush. What does that tell you..

    5. UK government is happy, their mexican police graduates keep killing city cops.
The officers on the ground seem to have been rounded and mass murdered on the spot, must have known or seen a little bit too much...just wait and see, this will be one more crime of state.
But about 30 Policia Federales murdered by ismael felix rodriguez mendigutia's contra-nicaragüense in Sanchez Taboada, VERACRUZ have never been avenged...

  3. I need to dig some more, but this may be the deadliest ambush against law enforcement, assuming authorities want to count this as 17. It already surpasses the October 2019 ambush in Aguililla (14) and the April 2015 ambush in San Sebastián del Oeste (15).

If anyone has more info please let us know here.

    1. FM doesn’t have a centralized structure anymore after over 10 years of war from the government and rivals. Old-school FM bosses that were active back in the days of Tisico, Chango, and Chayo now lead independent organizations operating under the FM name. Lalo Mantecas has Edomex, Pez and Fresa have Guerrero, and Tena operates in southwest Michoacán.

    2. There is more than 1 "Fresa" operating in the Tierra caliente region. Of the more important scumbags there is one in Guerrero and another who is plaza boss in Morelia.

  13. Strategic failure. I would have directed every law enforcement agency in the surrounding 100 miles to set up checkpoints, and the military to begin sweeping the area, no one in or out. I would have launched a dozen helicopters to patrol the area day and night. Infuriating, I know plenty of good cops in Mexico, the issue isn't corruption sometimes the issue is strategic failure. Insane.

    1. 5:58 PM Viagra everyone knows that area is controlled by the Familia Michoacana.

What happened in El Aguaje Aguillila was planned and created by the Viagras send crash dummies to die so the government would help them take El Aguaje.

The Viagras sent the State Police to their death. They had them going house to house robbing and bothering the families, friends and neighbors of CJNG members. In the Pena Colorada, El Limoncito. You can see those same police officers on google maps protecting the Sierra Santanas in Pinzandaro.
