César Carrillo Leyva, Son of Old Juárez Cartel Boss 'El Señor de Los Cielos', Is Killed in Sinaloa

"MX" for Borderland Beat; TY to "Tomatero" and "stevectpa"
César Carrillo Leyva ('Cesarín')
César Carrillo Leyva ('Cesarin'), son of the old Juarez Cartel boss Amado Carrillo Fuentes ('El Señor de los Cielos', The Lord of the Skies), was murdered yesterday in the municipality of Navolato, Sinaloa. According to eye-witnesses, the murder occurred at around 9:15 p.m. in Alfonso G. Calderon neighborhood. Residents called the police upon hearing gunshots in the vicinity. When the municipal police arrived at the scene, they found Cesar's body inside his garage.

According to state investigators, Cesar was murdered by two men who were waiting for him near his home that night. Judging by the evidences found at the scene, they said it was likely a drive-by shooting. Local journalists said that the murder was reportedly ordered by Los Chapitos, the sons of former Sinaloa Cartel boss Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.

News of  Cesar's death reached the morning conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO). The president asked the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) to respond. An SSPC official confirmed that a murder occurred in Navolato last night, but he did not identify the victim. He delegated that task to the authorities of the Sinaloa Attorney General's Office (FGS).

Cesar's name was made public in 2011 after several banners were placed across the state of Chihuahua announcing the emergence of the New Juarez Cartel ('Nuevo Cartel de Juarez'). The banners stated that Cesar had assumed control of the criminal group. In 2018, Borderland Beat reported that Cesar was arrested by the Mexican Navy in Navolato. His arrest was not "officially" confirmed and Cesar was subsequently released.

Cesar's brother, Vicente Carrillo Leyva ('El Ingeniero', The Engineer) was arrested in 1 April 2009 in Mexico City. He was released from prison in 2018 after completing a sentence for money laundering. He also had other siblings, including: Luis Fernando Carrillo and Juan Carrillo Leyva. Luis Fernando was arrested in 2019 for being connected to the murder of Sonora model Ambar Dolares.
Investigators arrived at Cesar's house to review the scene

Background
Cesar is the second child of Amado Carrillo Fuentes and Candelaria Leyva Cardenas. For many years, Cesar's father avoided capture from Mexican and U.S. authorities because he was successful at maintaining a low-profile. Several high-ranking members of the Mexican Army were also convicted for providing him with protection.

During his tenure, El Señor de los Cielos amassed a multi-million dollar fortune by successfully using planes to smuggle drugs into the U.S. from Mexico. He died on 4 July 1997 in Santa Monica Hospital in Mexico City following a plastic surgery. One of his mansions was auctioned in Mexico City earlier this year, as reported by Borderland Beat.

In the late 2000s, the Juarez Cartel was in an intense war with the Sinaloa Cartel for control of the El Paso–Juárez border plaza. Ciudad Juárez, the epicenter of this narco-war, ranked among the deadliest cities in the world for several years. Officials said that most of the victims were members of rival drug gangs, but civilians and members of security forces were often targeted or caught in the crossfire.

Much of the old Juarez Cartel was wiped out as the Sinaloa Cartel made major pushes into their turf. Violence began to decline in 2011 as the Sinaloa Cartel gained control of this border plaza. La Linea, which originally was the armed wing of the Juarez Cartel, is now a much larger criminal network and is currently fighting Sinaloa Cartel affiliates in Chihuahua.

  3. Los chapitos are forgetting one thing:They are not their dad. They don’t have half the power their dad once had.Sinaloa could look like a warZone soon.If Beltranes,Carrillos,Quintero’s,and Mayos people all go to war with the Chapitos sooner or later one of them is going to get killed, other arrested, and the other one might leave the state and hide out possibly in another country.

    1. They’ve been at war for about 2 years with Mayo, Caro, and Cartel de Juarez. They seem to be fairing pretty well in all those wars.

    2. How do you know they do not have the power and money you have been reading what is going on right? If they had no power or half the power they would not had been able to rescue the chapitos when he was captured.

      Delete
    3. Wym they don’t have half the pull that chapo had? They proven they have a lot of power! Ivan had been with his dad for a lot of years. Carrillos aren’t even in charge of their own plaza anymore, La Línea took over. Quinteros are on life support, beltrans have some pull but they are staying in their lane. El Mayo is team chapo 100% he ain’t no dummy.

    4. Easy there, armchair journalist.

Technically, they have a lot more power than their father, simply inheriting the organization today.

    6. You must not know nothing about what really going ..First Ivan is tougher than his dad here in Culiacan he has taken over all the city and there no war with Mayo or will be.There is a lot of family and marriages that are involved on both sides Mayo about money and chapos have always been the muscle of fighting ..Nini won the fight he was having with ruso and ruso left to sonora..Beltranes have splinter out of Sinaloa and barely are keeping some turf in sonora..They are more places where the zetas are since they have. A pact la línea came back but won’t be the same chihuahua and Juarez has been taken over by Sinaloa and once there in I doubt they will be pushed out ..trust me the Chapitos have power..pura chapiza 667

    10. 5:47 AM Beltran Leyva's are one unit and they still control Plazas in Sinaloa and Sonora what are you talking about. From Navojoa Sonora, Los Mohcis, Choix, Guasave, Sinaloa de Leyva, Guamuchil everything north of Soyatitia is Beltran Leyva or should I say Meza Flores. I don't know about Ciudad Obregon but I am certain they control some area's there also.

Mazatlan use to be Beltran Leyva and northern Nayarit. We ended up having to stay outside Mazatlan waiting for day light because the AFI checkpoint going into Nayarit had some paisas frightened of crossing it. This was when the Narco and pendejo defensas were going strong and they were from the Tepaltepec, Los Reyes area so it was a major problem for them they might have been bringing guns over who knows. We waited and then went in following a convoy of pick up trucks headed into Nayarit all with Sinaloa plates. The AFI agents were all huddled up in large group while they watched the convoy and us behind it pass.

    12. Since there kidnapping, Chapitos seem to keep winning. Tbh as long as Mayo doesnt turn on them, I dont see them going down. Offcourse theres always a chance they may run into some Marinas that dont accept payoffs. But atm they really seem to have their shit together and seem pose to gain great power. After been Internationally embarrassed due to their kidnappings and the most embarrassing way there dad got tracked and captured and all the betrayals that them and their dad have taken they aint fucking around anymore. They have learnt its better to go all out on the offensive then be on the defensive.

    1. There is an agreement in place otherwise there would've been a war already 3-4 years ago. Mayo told Chapitos their father was a sacrifice to keep the train rolling. How come this agreement hasn't been reported on Chivis? Not saying why haven't you but clearly the Sinaloa Cartel heads have some sort of agreement in place since so many people testified against each other. My guess is millions were paid one way or another.

  13. This killing is going to cause another war between Guzmanes and Carrillos. If the Chapitos ordered it they have put their siblings in danger as I don't believe Cesar was currently involved in the drug business based on his lack of bodyguards and him openly living in his small pueblo and house. "El que nada debe nada teme". These people that are children, nephews, brothers, uncles, fathers, grandfathers and associates of mafiosos know they must take security precautions if they're involved during a war. This isn't a nipping of the bud, this is striking whoever you can as shit is about to pop off. Everything that smells of Chapitos is open season. Que pendejos

  14. César was at one point working with Damaso. He jumped ship during the war.

Also, I’ve had this in the back of my mind for some time. The Chapitos are increasingly reminding me of the Arellano Felix with their high profile killings and attempting to take full control of their city. As someone who lived in Sinaloa during the CAFS hay day, not much has changed but the names. Big difference is AFs had control of a border city which made them not need much else.

CAF killings- Rigo Campos, Balta Diaz, Javier Diaz, Rayo etc, Ensenada, Cajoncito, Ajoya massacres.

Chapos- Chino, this guy Cesar, Gringo’s son, war with Damaso etc. Of course there is a huge difference, however th CAF, did all that damage in a span of over ten years

  17. Los Menores are doing the same mistake Los Arellano Felix did back in the days. They’re getting more and more people against them, it is only a matter of time before a big player gets involved and starts a new TJ or Reynosa like war in Sinaloa. And of course innocent lives are going to pay the price again, sad really. Chivis I have a theory, you think Los Menores are trying to claim as much territory as possible before the return of El Vicentillo in a couple of years? Or do you think he’s out of the game for sure. I say this because after reading his book and just talking to some people he fits as the rightful heir to the throne his day is going to leave behind. If Ivan and his brothers keep taking more territory away from Zambada, when Vicentillo comes out of prison he won’t have the same power as his dad which means the Guzmanes will have to order him around, not like the old days when he was the boss.

    ReplyDelete
  18. From what’s been said is that he was a threat and really hated the Guzman’s but that he was held in check by higher ups. Is it possible that maybe he was killed before a pact could be made to take out the Chapitos.

    ReplyDelete
  19. a lot of people are joining forces against ivan and he isnt having any of it...he got rid of a leader of a rival group...its simple and straight forward...Los Menores have the power and they will use it...its time for the old goats to move over...Ivan will take care of the rest...#701
