AMLO asks the US to investigate former links García Luna--on both sides of the border

The President recalled the operation against arms trafficking called 'Fast and Furious'

President López Obrador requested that the United States also collaborate in investigation into links between former officials and Genaro García Luna.

In a morning conference from Ciudad Juárez, he said that it is a matter of time to know whether or not there is a link. It is sooner or later because not only is there an investigation being done there, the Attorney General's Office is also doing research, it is investigating from the Treasury with financial intelligence to see everything related to money laundering," he said.

"I hope I also said it, and I repeat it, that we act in the case of the United States and I say it with all due respect because they are autonomous and independent, it is a free and sovereign nation and we are respectful because we want them to respect us in return, it would be important that it will also seek to reach the findings,  because they are not only Mexican authorities, there are also US authorities, officials of the different agencies that participates in joint operations.

The President recalled the operation against arms trafficking called 'Fast and Furious', where Mexico and the US participated when García Luna was head of the Secretary of Security.

"It is a ground operation that affected a lot. We are talking about loss of human lives and that there are no one responsible, are they only here on this side? Who authorized that there? Who were responsible? Apart from our investigation, regardless of ours, there is no hurry; I believe that the whole truth will be known, "he said.

  1. The whole truth will never be known.
Certain individuals from both countries have things to hide.
Deniability is and will always be a national security issue.

    1. The truth is already known. Why do you think julian Assange Wikileaks cables lead him to flee his country, plus Edward Snowden revealed what he found out, which made him leave the country. And seek asylum. The cables are open n tells the whole story. Mexico lost the battle against sinaloa because.... dam dam dun! Fast and furious weapons. Give 1 cartel weapons to control the rest.

  2. Very sad to see him mention'Fast and Furious'we are talking 2000 guns, this kind of boolshit keeps hostility alive and deflects from real issues happening in Mexico on this silly old fools watch.
People throw 'Fast and Furious' as a justification of all things anti-US and now you have this clown using it

    1. 2000 guns but only 700 recovered AND one of those guns happed to kill the Border Patrol agent Brian Terry which very few people mention. I agree people use it as an anti-US but it is a problem and has been a problem before Obama, Bush had his own operation as well, Operation Wide Receiver. The US has a history of selling arms to multiple countries via the CIA, who sell cocaine to be able to buy these weapons. The US is not innocent at all. Mexico has a right to know that the US was allowing these guns to be smuggled into Mexico. Just like the US is sometimes guilty of allowing drugs in courtesy of the CIA.

    2. He brought it up because those guns went to sinaloa while Luna was top dog in the government...its a good question...

    3. I agree there are more pressing issues but I can understand his concerns about this issue. To think this is all 'in the past' is a rather naive stance to take.

The past is our only looking glass into the future.

    4. F&F is just the tip of the iceberg threatening to expose US corruption and the failure of US drug policy. THAT is the real value of investigation and prosecuting F&F

    6. @9:33 ever thought about that 2000 guns were the OFFICIAL figure?

    7. Real issues? Gun violence is not a real issue? Where are these criminals getting access to these firearms in a country were firearms are not permitted?...

"Let's investigate drug trafficking coming from the southern border as it's killing americans."
Well, what about the stuff that's killing mexicans?

    2. I concur. Seeing politicians in concrete for the things they haughtily lock others up for while doing it at a level 100d higher is an awesome fantasy.

But then again....it is just that...a fantasy.

Also I'm not so sure I disagree with their premise of arming Sinaloa again Los Zetas. It didnt work out well but the Zetas were becoming powerful enough that they were causing significant unrest on the border and running out of control. I'd much rather have seen that scumbag Chapo controlling the Texas border states than this other lot of scumbags.

  7. This is the shit that happens when the capos go on trial (Chapo in this case) as opposed to being offered/taking a sweet deal.

No wonder that our leaders are against the capos going on trial and exposing the ugly truth. Give them a deal and keep their mouths shut is the best way out.

  9. It makes perfect sense. The U.S is going to prosecute Luna for his criminal participation in criminal activities,as they should. It's only fair, but, if we're going to be fair, who on the U.S side allowed 2000 firearms to be smuggled into Mexico knowing that firearms are pretty much not permitted for civilian use in the country. Who is not to say operation "F and F" was the last of many that the public never learned about?

Keep up the good work AMLO!
