Michoacán: Smaller Cartel Groups Unite to Defeat “ El Mencho”

Yaqui for Borderland Beat from: Vanguardia

The expansion of the CJNG in Mexican territory continues, therefore, small cartels have come together to stop "El Mencho".

In recent weeks, and even months, the violence in Michoacán lands has skyrocketed, the fighting has become constant , while the number of dead are soaring.

Just another day in a Michoacán school

A teacher taught classes inside the classroom room, when his voice was overwhelmed by the detonations of several firearms. The teacher and the students are thrown to the ground , one of the minors manages to take out his cell phone and records the moments.

In the recording of barely 10 seconds the minors on the floor murmur and even laugh in the middle of the shooting.
According to local media, it is a dispute between drug gangs, basically a dispute between the Jalisco Nueva Generación cartel (CJNG) and other smaller criminal organizations that allegedly have united to go against the Jalisco.

It is a dispute to stop the advance of the organization led by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, "El Mencho" ,  public enemy number one in the country of Mexico and one of the most sought after by the United States government .

The Drug Control Administration (DEA for its acronym in English) and the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) say that the CJNG is the criminal organization with the most presence in Mexico. The Mexican Gov't says the Cartel controls eight states of the country, however, the Americans has it is in 28 entities.
                                                                    Image from Zeta

Be that as it may, one of them is Michoacán, the entity where "El Mencho" was born and where his financial arm, wife and brothers-in-law are native: "Los Cuinis".

When the CJNG separated from the Sinaloa cartel and began its expansion into Mexican lands, Michoacán was one of the first states where they entered.

However, they did not do it alone. From the hand of a weakened "Familia Michoacana" they entered the entity. "El Mencho" became a compadre of Jesús Méndez, "El Chuchín", who is the son of José de Jesús Méndez, "El Chango Méndez", co-founder of the "Familia Michoacána".

The cartel also infiltrated and paid some self-defense groups to remove, with the help of state and federal authorities, the "Knights Templarios" , the main threat in Michoacán.

Thus, in the first half of the past six years, Servando Gómez Martínez, "La Tuta", leader of the Knights Templar was one of the main objectives, until he was captured in 2015.

Later, the road was left free for the CJNG, who made the Michoacán lands one of its bastions.

"El Mencho" on left, one of the few photos available

The port of Lázaro Cárdenas , for the export and import of drugs, chemical precursors and even minerals, is the main importance of Michoacán for organized crime, as well as the sowing of drugs in its fertile lands.

However, currently criminal gangs, some that helped them get to Michoacán, seek to stop the advance of the CJNG .

"The Viagras" are one of the groups that allegedly dispute "El Mencho" and his criminal group.

 "Papa Smurf"
It is a criminal group led by the Sierra Santana brothers , who began as self-defense member of Michoacán along with Estanislao Beltrán, better known as "Papa Smurf" .

There, Nicolás Sierra Santana, nicknamed "El Gordo Viagra" gained the trust of the then Commissioner for Security and Integral Development in Michoacán, Alfredo Castillo Cervantes , who incorporated them and his group as elements of the Rural Force.

After the fall of the main members of the "Knights Templar", "The Viagras" began to take power seizing the business of drug trafficking in La Tierra Caliente.

Since before the capture of "La Tuta"; "The Viagras" and "Papa Smurf," as well as other self-defense groups, were accused of being funded by the CJNG.
"La Tuta"

The theory of the supposed alliance was strengthened when they captured Jordyn Axel Villa, alias "El Yordin" or "El H" , nephew of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes.

However, it transcends that at that time the CJNG and "Los Viagras" had already broken and that "El Yordín" had betrayed his uncle by choosing the Sierra Santana.

Another of the groups that are part of this alliance to stop "El Mencho" are the "Knights Templar" and the cells that are left of them.

According to the FGR, there are two cells that emanate from the "Knights Templar": the band "El Tena", which operate in Aquila, Coahuayana, Coalcomán de Vázquez Pallares; and "El Gallito", with presence in Tumbiscatío and Apatzingán.
"El Tena"

"Los Tena" are led by Fernando Cruz Mendoza, "El Tena", who is known to have been part of the "Knights Templar" since their years of criminal boom.

Even in 2014 the name of Fernando Cruz Mendoza appeared among the list of Templar leaders that the self-defense groups sought to stop.

While the band "El Gallito" is led by Homero González Rodríguez. It is known that he is the first cousin of Nazario Moreno, "El Chayo", founder of the "Knights Templar".

More unidentified local criminal gangs could be part of this dispute against the CJNG.

"El Mencho" and his men have not remained with their arms crossed, in addition to responding to the armed attacks they have placed blankets , ie "narco mantas", with messages accusing members of the Attorney General's Office of the State (FGJE) of receiving bribes from "Los Viagras".

In the last four years, the number of murders increased by 70% in Michoacán, according to official data, when it passed 955 cases in 2015, the year in which "La Tuta" was arrested; to 1,623 during the past year.

Meanwhile, during the first two months of this 2019, intentional homicides reached 284 cases in Michoacán lands, placing the entity in the top ten of the most violent in the country.

    2. 3:55 why accept bribes when ownership is the meaty bone?
The corruption of government is always the main problem, and the PRD government of michoacan was corrupted by PRI since the first time Cuauhtemoc Cardenas got about 1 000 PRD campaign volunteers assassinated by Carlos Salinas de Gortari and his PRI assassins to steal the election, and still had to steal the election through fraud, since then, only friends with the presidency "can govern" like Silvano Aureoles Conejo, PRD, imposed by EPN and Castillo.
-- But el Traficante mas Grande de Tierra Caliente only wanted to take down the CT because they were trying to squeeze him too hard, Miguel Angel Gallegos Godoy "el migueladas" is still The Boss, he may be fighting La Mencha now, Dr Mireles went down in his airoplano, I Don't know if he got hisself a new one.

Mayo, marro and cholo are the ones putting the offensive to cjng expansion to a war that will kill millions and millions more

  5. CDS cant take them down... how are these smaller cartels going to fo it? CJNG with Cuinis are the wealthiest cartel, the control the major ports. They might take over some insignificant plaza from some lil pueblo but not any major damage can be done at this point to CJNG.

    1. Are you sure Cuinis is still with CJNG (Mencho)? Anyone anyone ??? Hahaha. How you know his wife wasn't just released by people with more influence then Mencho for other reasons? Remember, they have a large large family. They are on the run, survival of the fittest. Who would you run to if you new what side the government was favoring? Just playin.

    2. Mikey, if that wasnt true then, he would have been dead long ago. Unless you are suggesting Mencho is still stronger than CDS all alone which would contradict everyone of your post. CDS has to joing 8 different cartels to try and bring down lil old Mencho all by his lonesome. I believe you been also saying he was goong to die since 5 yrs ago! BTW still waiting for that whatsapp #!

    3. Please read my past posts, never said Mencho was going to die in any post, obviously you aren't up to date on your BB articles or have no idea about how the inner workings on the mafias operate. I forgot, your probably most likely sitting in Liverpool, in a dunged out apartment with some mota that you got from selling someone else's stolen jewelry. anyway you don't understand even a little bit of what I meant, language barrier. The corruption Dynamics and change of course right now in Mexico is because of many political, cartalinas, and other high power people flipping sides to the winning side CDS, Mex govt, and all alligned bc of gringo pressure. CJNG just make public displays that will grab media attention killing mostly innocent small time people. Meanwhile behind the closed doors, they are falling apart and can't seem to take over any state or plaza. Please name one state they have FULL control of or at least 80pct control of???????? it's funny because word around here is Mencho wants to come to the bargaining table with the elders. Why you hide, wheres your wats app? I'm not hiding my name.

    5. 10:58: So all your intel and dynamics in politics is because of some cartulinas* what has CDS won?
Name me a plaza that CDS controls. Now name the ports that CDS lost control of to CJNG... they can have cheap plazas back, ports are not being lost anytime soon! If elders would like to negotiate its because they cant win. You said who wants to whatsapp, im waiting for your #. Keep it 100 then.

  8. There have always been rivalries, feuds, and conflicts in rural Mexico among villages, families, groups, etc. - water rights, property/farming issues, and plain ol' envidia. Mexican people might love their mamas, but they hate their neighbors. Now that feuds are carried on with extreme firepower and backing by outsiders, it can only get worse.

To paraphrase Porfirio Diaz, its leader from 100 years ago - "Pobre de Mexico, tan lejos de dios y tan cerca a la chingada"

    4. 10:38 once the chilangos had the Guadalajara cartel in prison, they split the plazas among themselves, stop saying the prisoners did any splitting, other than spreading their cheeks.
Those chilangos were the government puppets until they weren't, among them DFS and PJF, the hank rohn also needed to have a plaza other than Tejas where their bank got busted for money laundering because Tejas got new owners, El Senor de los Cielos Would follow por rata and for Murdering Colombian drug lord Don Castor "El Gordo" Ochoa owner of the 20+ tons of cocaine stolen by Amado.
How are we going to progress if we can't get history right? Ignorance is being Mexico's problems getting bigger.

  19. Sinaloa doesn't really qualify as a cartel at this point. They are more like a buffed-up pandilla like Los Aztecas and Guerreros Unidos.

  20. H3 and viagras were allied with mencho before while remnants of caballeros templarios were trying to fight them off. At this point alliance between viagras and mencho broke and all war let out. M3ncho and el gallito formed an alliance and treaty in exchange for weapons and money TEMPLARIOS el gallitos group and sub groups like los blancos de troya would continue to operate in thier respected areas but support the fight against viagras and other cells whoch formed alliance LA NUEVA FAMILIA MICHOACAN. Which is a whole new cartel diff from original familia michoacana. Just last 2 weeks mencho and the caballeros templarios had a fall out and mencho said templarios broke there agreement to not abduct people and other foul shyt. So apparently now caballeros templarios and cjng are now going back at it. I am not sure what is the relatio ship with the blancos of troya are they with caballeros templarios or mencho side. I assume they are with mencho since they had a fall out with templarios and thats when they allogned with los viagras. Now its interesting to see what happens. Will ct viagras reunite to remove cjng from michoacan. Only time will tell one thing is for sure. Cartel de sinaloa has been supporting viagras with money and weapons to counter mencho. Michoacan is starting to look like tamaulipas with golfos zetas and cdn fighting each other. Its a freaking mess.

  23. I sure have learned on lot being on BB, reading articles, I want to say positive things about Mexico, but unfortunately the currupted government of Mexico and the criminal cartels continues to bring it down. I was greatfull when autodefensas came along, but the government gave Mencho backing, along with infiltration. Yanqui sees it clear in the article, that when good people fight the system, they get taken down.
