Chilapa, Guerrero: Community police shootout leaves 10 dead 2 injured

Roberto Alvarez Heredia, spokesman for the State Coordination for the Construction of Peace in Guerrero, explained that the events occurred around 3:00 pm on the road that leads to Hueycantenango, where according to versions of townspeople a group of armed civilians confronted another armed group who call themselves community police.   

Community policemen faced gunshots this Sunday on the road that leads to the community of Paraíso de Tepila, municipality of Chilapa, Guerrero, and left 10 people dead and two injured.

In a statement, he said that the State Police received the report, its elements came to the site with the support of military personnel. When they arrived at the scene, they found two trucks that were hit with multiple shots from a firearm and inside the vehicles found 10 dead bodies.

According to the testimonies of people living in the area, there were two injured, who were transferred by their own means to receive medical attention. Their health status is unknown at this time, the official said.

Finally, personnel of the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) were informed of the incident and has opened an investigation to determine the corresponding responsibilities, and proceed to the lifting of the bodies and the development of the respective proceedings.
 
 
On January 7, members of the Community Police of the Regional Coordinator of Community Authorities (CRAC) of Guerrero, commemorated the first anniversary of the murder of 11 people, including six of its members.
 
In 2018 the country experienced its most violent year since records have been recorded, with 33,341 victims of intentional homicide, according to figures released Monday by the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC).
