Video: Piedras Negras Federal Candidate Killed as he exited debate

By Chivis Martinez for Borderland Beat

“We took back the city from the Zetas!” said Purón in the debate minutes before his murder

Violence continues out of control during this deadly Mexico election season.

The latest murder is that of PRI candidate, Fernando Purón Johnston. which was recorded by a security camera. He was shot twice, one was a head impact.

In the footage, the shooter is seen to the far left adjacent to the UA de C building in Piedras Negras,  he moves to the left just under the sign, wearing a jacket and a cap.  Meanwhile Purón Johnston is mingling with a few supporters, and taking selfies, when the killer makes his move, extracting a gun from his jacket moving towards his target, gets close and shoots.

The victim was a candidate for the Coahuila First District Deputy position.  There are seven Coahuila districts.  It is a federal position similar to a congressman in the U.S.  The first district is located at the upmost northern part of the state and borders Texas cities such as Del Rio and Eagle Pass.

The victim had just exited the building where he had participated n a debate against his opposition, one being Lenin (Lenny) Perez of Acuña.  Perez was a two term mayor in Acuña.

Purón Johnston was a popular former mayor of Piedras Negras, and the 43 year old had just became a father two months before his murder. [daughter at left, one of his last FB posts]

With this murder, the death tally for candidates is 113

The states of Guerrero (23), Oaxaca (19), Puebla (13) and Veracruz (8) are the ones that register the greatest number of aggression.

The PRI coalition with Verde Ecologistas de México and Nueva Alianza the Green Ecologists of Mexico and Nueva Alianza parties has been the hardest hit with 44 murders of politicians.

  3. Politics is comparable to boxing. The only thing is that in politics there are basically no rules. In boxing, you can get a black eye, but in politics you can get poison in your food or a bullet in the head. It's definitely rougher and tougher than other sports.- Wladimir Klitschko

    5. The only thing the word "professional" means is not expertise, just the fact that an individual is compensated for his "work." The level of inhumane crimes in Mexico won't diminish any more than the level of corruption. The United States is not far behind, in the Diaz Ordaz/Echeverria/Gutierrez Barrios stage of development...

  14. Wonder if that woman was the decoy ? Looks like her disappearing then that fence.
She ducks down when Purón gets the hit and disappears from view in the corner but that looks like her walking across the cement and then thru that fence.

  19. A professional hit my asz, a professional wouldn't execute a T.O.I. target of interest in front of a survailance camera such as in this case. This was a desperate shot in point blank range, he wasn't alone he had observers aiding him. C mon man think.

  31. In order to eliminate Drug Cartels one must (Government & Law Enforcement)be just as violent as the Drug Cartel. Black Bag Ops and hide operations from the News Media. One FELL SWOOP, it will take at least 30 days. Generals and Police may be caught up in "ELIMINATION" Process.
