San Diego: Serafin Zambada Ortiz sentenced to 66 months

Serafin Zambada-Ortiz sentenced to 66 months

Years after his arrest, after the press conferences and seizures, some of the lead defendants, and most high profile names in Operation Narco Polo are being sentenced.  In San Diego Federal court, in front of District Judge Dana Sabraw, Serafin Zambada Ortiz was sentenced to roughly 66 months in prison, or 5 1/2 years.

He will released in September, having already served the majority of his sentence in the San Diego MCC, since his extradition from Nogales in September 2013, when he was detained with his wife, who was later released, on a warrant from San Diego, alleging drug conspiracy and distribution charges.

Operation Narco Polo concluded in 2015, with a press release detailing the infiltration and indictment of all the major traffickers in the Culiaican/Tijuana corridor, and internationally. It is the single most impactful indictment targeting the Sinaloa Cartel, out of San Diego, which has become, in my opinion the center of major narcotics related activity in Southern California.

Narco Polo's after shock also ensnared the ill fated Los Damasos, and intelligence gathered Narco Polo, led to the indictment, and eventual arrests and surrenders of Mini Lic, his uncle, and their top ranking members last summer.  Damaso Lopez Serrano pleaded guilty to a 5 count drug trafficking indictment, and another one filed in the district of Virginia, which also included his father. Damaso Lopez Sr. is awaiting extradition in Mexico, in the same Juarez prison where his compadre and godfather to his son, Chapo Guzman, waited.

Indictment after indictment has targeted the Sinaloa traffickers, since 2011, when Narco Polo began.  Among the list of fugitive defendants, are Alfonso Areteaga Azarte "Aquiles", and his brother Rene Azarte, "La Rana", Ivan Archivaldo Guzman, Mayito Flaco, and Ismael Zambada, among others.  All the Tijuana plaza bosses, with exception of Jose Soto Gastelum, were named, and many of the Culiacan based Los Antrax cell, including Cheyo Antrax, and Changuito Antrax, who escaped last year from a Culiacan prison, along with another defendant in Narco Polo, Alfonso Limon-Sanchez.

Zambada-Ortiz, after his arrest and a round of media stories with instagram accounts and tweets, many of which were not his, pleaded guilty in September 20145, to conspiracy to distribute 100 kilos of cocaine from Culiacan to Tijuana, and into the United States.  And then, nothing. His sentencing was pushed bac year after year, as speculation grew, he was being held somewhere else, he had been released, he was in Wit-Sec, or custody of the US Marshals.

As of March 2018 he was in the San Diego MCC, and will serve another 6 months or so, before his release.  The judge, the assistant US Attorney, and his defense attorney, Saji Vettyia, all agreed upon the sentence.  The judge stated he was receiving and extremely favorable outcome, and credited his "genuine remorse", youth, and relative inexperience in the drug business for the reduction in his sentence.

Many letters from family members spoke of his character and intelligence.  He told the judge, through a translator, he would "raise his two children in the best way possible".   He had evidently only begun to be involved a few years before his abrupt arrest.  His family members filled the courtroom in support.  Jose Rodrigo Gamboa aka "Chino Antrax", is scheduled to be sentenced in the upcoming months, in front of the same judge.  He too, has been in the MCC, since his extradition and guilty plea in 2014, and 2015.

He will do his remaining time and then instead of deported back to Mexico transfered to an other US jail. Donald want capital punishment for opiat dealers. Politicians Are changing. Its a way to risky.

    1. Y'all must be naive to believe anything else. These top dogs in cartels especially CDS pay their guys tho to take the heat thus you haven't heard or seen retaliation against Mayos raza or Chapos. Thats the stipulations their men must know and be willing to accept when you go to work for someone whos taking you out of poverty to making enough money where your kids kids dont have to work.

    2. 4:47 You really think that. It's not that they don't want to they just can't.

Everything takes time unless you are a high ranking government employee with 5 guys protecting them inside the states you wont get hit.

The blurred out line that say you don't touch anyone's family doesn't exist anymore it is an eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth a family member for a family member.

Its up to the family if they want to just forget about it or they want revenge.

    4. I highly doubt El Mayate told La Chapa que anduviera ahi de caliente con el Honor de la Castillo,
Whatever happens is your problem, CDS allowed to get divided and got quartered in no time, specially since they chose to work closely with the chilangos in their airports like EPN and genarco Garcia luna who El Barbas allowed in his hangars in the Toluca Mexico State airport, those pickpockets were not going to be nice to El Barbas and Co. And they weren't.

    3. Chicago is not up for grabs, what happens is that there are no single big fat hens, the risk has been spread down there among the pollitos by the owner of the chicken coop, El Papá de Los Pollitos, say, who got the twins to record Vicente Zambada Niebla requesting "more than machine guns and rifles"?
Also gave immunity and impunity to the twins, nice deals and got la Chapa isolated in prison just like John gotti and other stormy people, their specialty.

  21. Called it a couple months ago and everybody said no no no, zambada had his sons turn themselves in after realizing that if El Niño cooperated and only got a minimum sentence his kids would do even much less time and come out with a clean record. Serafin will now just roam around the US and Mexico freely and enjoy the millions his daddy left him.

If you don’t see that the DEA and American agencies are blatantly favoring Mayo you need to go get your eyes checked . He has been the one turning all of hiscompdres in or eliminating all that he thought unfavorable to his legacy. Why the whole CDS still worships this guy is unclear to me, They will go out and murder an innocent reporter who writes articles on what’s going on (Ríodoce guy) but won’t even dare mention that El Rey zambada, Vicente zambada, Serafin zambada are all informants to the DEA.

    2. Of course cds is DEA favorite cartel, chapo and Zambadas are known DEA informants but I wonder what will happen to chapo.. Will he testify in court like vicentillo that he was giving information to the DEA in return to sell drugs? And will it fly? Worked for vicentillo because he's not going to see much time, maybe it was the 1.5 BILLION dollars that they made him cough up but chapo claims he's broke and can't even get a lawyer while his kids are partying like it's all good in the hood..

Paying high value informants for information on any level narcos has become a way of living for the drug enforcement agencies since the 70s. But gets worse, killing Kiki Camarena and demonizing star agents like Cele Castillo, Hector Berrellez and Phil Jordan to protect drug trafficking terrorists de estado in Mexico and the US, esas si son chingaderas!
