Out of Control Arms Traffic in Guerrero

Translated by Yaqui for Borderland Beat from: Bajopalabra

Luis Jijon Leon, Mar 17, 2018

Guerrero :  The state authorities have acknowledged that there is no control in the arms trade in Guerrero, which has turned the entity into an arsenal where more and more powerful weapons appear in the hands of criminals, from German rifles HK 93A with grenade launchers up to  C-4 explosives.

According to information from the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) of the State of Guerrero, so far this month at least 40 weapons, 15  long guns, full cartridges/ magazines, explosives, and tactical equipment have been seized and they have arrested 26 people.

Among the weapons seized are German-made rifles, as well as powerful explosives. On March 4 in the Sierra de Guerrero, four people were arrested and the authorities confiscated nine long weapons, among which was a rifle model HK 93A, of the German company Heckler and Koch. In addition, a grenade launcher, 26 loaders for different types of weapons, thousands of  216 live cartridges of different calibers, presumed liquid opium gum, tactical equipment and powerful explosives called C4.

On Tuesday, March 13, the Attorney General's Office (PGR), the Mexican Army and state police searched an address in the community of La Soledad,  in the Municipality of San Marcos, where they seized four long weapons, 10 short guns , 28 porters (? )  and more than 2,000 live cartridges, and  also detained nine people.

Early this month in the mountains of Guerrero, the authorities located  a vehicle with an AR-15 rifle, two 9 mm square pistols, plus a 14 mine rifle, and live  ammunition cartridges.

The PGR have arrested  17 more people in Zihuatanejo, Acapulco, Costa Chica, and Tierra Caliente for carrying  firearms, who according to the SSP have been  presented to the appropriate authorities, but their legal status ( I assume they mean the legal status of the weapons ) is unknown.

On Tuesday, March 13,  while attending a  ceremonial destruction of weapons in the Ninth Military Region, Governor Hector Astudillo Flores acknowledged that one of the problems generated by the daily criminal acts of the state is the large amount of weapons flowing among into the State of Guerrero and among Guerrerenses.

For its part, the spokesman, Alvarez Heredia called on the federation to reduce the illegal arms traffic to the entity.

Note: to all you gun experts out there ; I have NO idea what they mean by "porters" ; perhaps grenade launchers ???

  1. Did anyone see that kingpin show on history channel. El chapo ep. The gulf cartel ddidnt exist benjamin arellano was portrayed as an average thug as opposed to the business man he was. El guero palma nor el mayo zambada nor ernesto fonseca or caro quintero were mentioned. They made el chapo as more powerful than escobar and his cartel the most powerful which it was when the gulf cartel and the zetas split for a time the most powerful cartel in mexico. Fucking history channel was way off.

    3. The show was horrible. They took a handful of true events and made their own story. Leaving out most of the main players and major events. The program as a whole created a fictional story to what end I'm not sure. Did they assume the average watcher isn't intelligent enough to grasp the actual history? Maybe they weren't talented enough to get all the facts flimed in the amount of time allotted for the program? Truth is they made a twisted storyline with the goal of selling commercial time and no care for the complete facts. A fine example of corporate profiting off the drug war and blurring the facts.

Weapons manufacturers manage to put their wares in the hands of the mentally ill they then use to promote their extreme right agenda, but not every sick person uses weapons, take Timothy McVeigh, bombing the FBI building in Oklahoma on behalf of da I'd koresh a multiple offender child abuser that hid behind his bibles and religion and weapons and welfare for his sex victims to sustain his way of life...
McVeigh certainly was used and promptly executed to save the living, his surviving accomplices, from further investigations if he confessed more if given enough time.

    2. I can see to a certain degree as fact to your analogy to your comment. Drugs / violence have interwoven our communities / countries from narcotics.
However, IMO the violence which has surged in Mexico is due to the fragmented alliance cartels / government. Where greed of monopolizing a product that is very profitable.
These weapons are of serious concerns. But because of such uncertainty in the drug trafficking business measures have been implemented.
Moreover, sure a majority of these weapons are shipped by means of overseas by arms traffickers.

      They dont blame mexican demand.
The major cartels existed since way before the drug war yet no one was mad at the united states, it wasnt until the mexican president attacked the cartels with the mexican military and the cartels responded and attacked back and eachother and suddenly its americas fault

    1. There is absolutely NO DOUBT in my mind that Mexicans using there own drugs now is fueling a huge part of the nearly inconceivable violence. The hard drugs, the crystal, meth for the masses.......a generation ago smoking mota was about it and even that not that publicly. Kids coming up in a hard drug fueled culture can only turn out one way. They are mentally challenged,
      moral compass askew, their whole lots of families tweaked out and embracing the narco cultura along with Corruption and impunity from the top down........it is all a recipe for disaster;
We know “ just say No “ doesn’t work, we know the WODrugs hasn’t worked. I don’t see any simplistic solution on any side of any borders, it is almost like Mexico has to hit the proverbial bottom, which we keep thinking we are seeing and then we wake up to even more unbelievable more hideously violent news.......lots of families I know have become evangelical Christians just to give them moral compass and a collective of people with the same values. It is not the religion , but the community collective ness to keep their families on a more traditional path.

  7. Look drugs and guns can be used in negative ways but so can food and power tools. We have become so far removed as society and as
individual to be able to ever view these issues through the lense of unbiased rational. You don't have to like, use, nor agree with guns or drugs to understand that keeping these things illegal or in dark shade of gray area is only contributing to more harm period. Incentive is the word of the day I challenge us all here to think critically about what this word really means and how it applies to the actions of people. The harder one tries to prohibit these things the more they will creep up like a symptom of a sickness. And folks that sickness at one of its deepest levels is the inability or unwillingness to be honest with ourselves and each other. If I dont understand something don't call me names, help me understand constructively, the better points when properly conveid should be self evident. Amen

i'm guessing they are referring to magazines, both because they are "carriers" for ammo and because the relative #s seized make sense relative to the #s of guns and rounds of ammo. pretty sure they would have mentioned grenade launchers separately. also, the "14 mine rifle" is probably a Ruger Mini-14.

    2. 5:34 I don't think elimination of drug control is what matters to the "present administration" that used to protect and patronize drug dealers of all persuassions, as long as they share their ill gotten gains, like "losing some on their casinos or their buddies and goodfellas, rent their hotels rooms and buy their condos, and invest on their enterprises, without making waves, like 3 times convicted drug trafficker Joseph Weichselbaum, google.

With issues of national security at forefront ( crime / drugs ) laws imposing stricter sentencing are often implemented. History has proven this to be evident where a curtailment of an issue is present.

Say what you will, it’s only a matter of time before US military boots are occupying Mexico. The Cartels are go greedy, they’re going rush a terrorist across the border & he will attack the US. That’s when the US government will send troops into Mexico.

    3. E42 - "Cartels are not that stupid to carry out what will inevitably be their very own existence".

I think history has proven otherwise on this one buddy.

Cartels have shown to do just about anything if the $$$ are right.

For instance, lets say someone from CDN or Old School Zeta's was contacted by an unknown, asking to have 15 people smuggled over the border. In turn, they are promised a $50-100 million(USD) payout. Do you think they would really turn that down?

I know $50-100 million is a lot of money, but that's a drop in the bucket to a lot of Saudi Princes, Sheikhs, and other oil tycoons from all across the middle the middle east that have every desire to bring terror to the United States.

If this did happen, it would inevitability end up with troops on the ground and drones in the sky. The Mexican government depends so much on the United States for aid, trade, and commerce they wouldnt really be able to say no. On top of that, i think the majority of Mexican citizens would be more willing to stand up against the cartels and corrupt government officials knowing the U.S. was in their corner.

    4. This is just silly. There are far easier ways to get into the U.S. than hiring a cartel to smuggle you across. Especially if you have Saudi Prince money. Most illegals get into the United States the easy way. By plane. And then simply overstay their visa (tourist, business, student, etc.). Why pay $50-100 million to a cartel? That's just stupid.

But let's say they did want to pay this. A cartel would be more likely to fleece a Saudi Prince, Sheikh or other terrorist and not deliver than they would be to actually collaborate with them and help them. They'd take the money and run. Only they wouldn't even need to run. What is the Saudi Prince going to do, come and find them in the mountains of Sinaloa and demand their money back? OK.

    5. I understand your sarcasm, and you're totally right. It is silly and ridiculous. But lets be honest, more ridiculous things have happened.

Anyways, the semantics you're pointing out wasn't really the point of my comment. The idea Narcos wouldn't/couldn't do something that could inevitably lead to American incursion and their downfall was.

Some of them would kill their own mothers if the money was right.
