Z40 Nephew: Zetas leader Kiko Trevino, Texas arraignment hearing October 11

CEM for Borderland Beat

This is supposedly a foto of "Kiko" we are not 100% sure
Juan Francisco Trevino Chavez, alias “Kiko” will be arraigned on October 11, 2016.  Kiko is the nephew of Miguel Trevino and Omar Trevino, and is presumed to have moved into the premier leader position, after the arrests of his uncles in Coahuila and Nuevo Leon.

When his uncles were arrested a split occurred within the Los Zetas cartel.  Kiko has led the “CDN” (cartel de noreste) and the splinter group is called “Vieja Escuela Z” (Old School Zetas)

He was arrested on September 28, in Baytown Texas, a city located on the gulf coast, about 25 miles from Houston.  Rafael de la Garza and Hilda Morales are his defense attorneys.

Kiko is the son of the eldest Trevino brother, Juan Francisco Trevino, who was released two years ago after serving a 20 year sentence in the United States.

The younger Juan, is known to be a brutal leader, evident by the horrific violence that has plagued Tamaulipas since the clash of the two groups.  His uncles kept him in check while they were at the helm, once he began as premier leader,  grotesque killings and dismemberments  returned and becoming the norm once again, much like when Heriberto Lazcano (Lazca) was alive and in charge of sicarios.
Another possible foto of Kiko

Kiko operated out of Nuevo Laredo Tamaulipas, and Coahuila.  CDN still remains prominent in the state of Coahuila, known as the Zetas “home state”, since their split from CDG.  Zetas have been allowed to operate freely in the state thanks to pay offs to police and state politicos.  One notorious former governor said to have been in collusion with Zetas is Humberto Moreira. Ironically, Lazca ordered the murder of Humberto’s son, Eduardo “Lalo” Moreira in Acuna, Coahuila.  This was a settling of scores, as another Trevino nephew was killed by state police the day prior.  Mantas were hung warning “nephew for nephew”.  Because Humberto was no longer governor, his brother Rueben was and was blamed for deploying state police to Piedras Negras which ended in the death of the nephew.  Hence “Nephew for Nephew”

Oddity

U.S. District Judge Walter S. Smith Jr. was assigned to the case for years.  But he resigned on September 19th  in the wake of a sexual misconduct case against him.

A judge was assigned to take over the case, that Judge is Robert Pitman,  (left) who was previously the United States Attorney for the Western District of Texas.  While in that position he was the lead attorney for the U.S. in its Austin courtroom case against the Zetas, regarding the horse racing money laundering charges.  Borderland Beat covered the entire case from the courtroom. Use your search bar to access the archive posts. Jose Trevino, another of Kiko’s uncles was one of the main targets in that case which involved half dozen defendants.

As judge, Pitman will have a much different role in this Zeta trial.  One wonders if former Zeta leader “El Mamito”, Jesus Enrique Rejon Aguilar, might once again be a star witness for the prosecution.  If so, it will become very interesting as it was in the first Zeta trial.

That of course is if it even goes to trial.

But wasn't Z-40 supposed to be the most brutal cartel leader of his time?

    1. Z-40 was the more visible figure so he got the attention, but it was only after Lazcano died that the mayhem calmed down. I't makes sense that Lazacano was the true monster, after all and his nickname was the Executioner, he was in charge of the rise of the Z.

    2. nope that is the myth. it was lazca. 40 would prefer to be as low profile as possible. remember when Lazca died, how everything became so "quiet"? then when he and omar were arrested and kiko was in control, it all went to shit again.

    3. To earn the respect and undying love of lazca, zeta chorrienta had to have done some exemplary work, who in their right mind wants a "correct" mandilon around?
--I really hope all the narcos get it, but why be satisfied with the lowly sicarios?
--There are governors and presidentes and their teams and a lot of gene4ales that need to be put on the enhanced interrogations programs, they will not suffer, I swear they will spill the beans at the sight of the masked interrogators and their chicharras.

Think it is Encarnación de Diaz in Jalisco, 2 dead, 2 wounded and cjng took away some 6 other supposedly oficinos, who are supposedly beltranuses supposedly were golfas before with el Z50 el taliban, but all seem to be grameros cristaleros y lavacarros trying to invade cjng turf, and got gotten at the first try.
Aguascalientes used to be all the arellanuses turf, until all hell broke loose.
Don chuyito labra aviles went from Aguascalientes to tijuana married to the aunt of the arellano felix brothers to sell tacos, he had great success for a looong time...

    1. He wasn't the real boss and if you go down south you will know that, los bravos are a small group in victoria they have no real power after the arrest of the main guys and el wero went to hide in matamoros after the bravos wanted to kill him for betraying them that's why nobody here's from him anymore, rumor has it that he was killed by Los golfos but like I said nobody has heard from him , 7:21 if you notice the fake "narco mantas" stopped after el wero disappeared

Kiko treviño has been living in the states for more then two years now he has never been in charge of the zetas ... the rumors that he was, were started by el blog del narco after the arrest of omar treviño because no body knew who the new boss was going to be... as we all know those guys at El blog del narco don't have their shit together and always fabricate information just to get people to look at their stuff ... it is very well known in nuevo laredo that this guy wasn't anything

    3. Thank you for your post. I have a tendency to believe you. It is very difficult to be any kind of an effective criminal leader without being hands on. As a former drug dealer, when you get locked up in the US or distance yourself from this type of business (or any type business for that matter) you lose the ability to maintain effective control over your operations. The competition will see to that. And there is always competition from someone or someones. And what would a major player be doing by being directly connected to a small time drug transaction like 1000 keys of mota. To some people, 1000 keys of weed is a big deal, but not to a major cartel player. It is hard to imagine that he was the leader of one of two Zeta factions while living in the US for two years. And personally, if I were the head of the CDN, I would love to have people thinking the leader was someone else. If anyone is interested, look at the Luchese Family of La Cosa Nostra when Vit Amusso became boss and Anthony Casso the underboss. "Gaspipe" Casso was given the option to become boss of the family, and he turned it down, allowing his friend and puppet Amusso to become boss so that he could be able to fly lower on the FBI radar while maintaining control by being Amusso's "Puppet Master." Didn't work out well for "Gaspipe" regardless, but not a bad idea in general. Anyway, thanks for your comment and thanks to all those at BB. - El Gringo Loco

    9. Who knows how much more cash there was. Costa Rica. 1,000,000 dollars is a lot of cash in america, and I know that in Costa Rica you would be considered a multi millionaire. You don't know drugs.in America that is a huge bust. He was the leader, but of course in America its different running something, but in Mexico you could. He has always came up and back down to Laredo. You don't know. Others do.
